Eleven of the soldiers clutched their chests before collapsing. The man who had worked the radio held his head as if to cover his ears, grimacing in pain as a purple glow came from his chest. He quickly grabbed the radio and shouted into it between gasps for breath, "entities confirmed Keter class. Entire team KIA, immediate back-up is required!"

As he spoke, the purple glow slowly started to dim until his finished his last sentence. When the glow had completely faded, he too grasped his chest. The soldier cried out as he collapsed, with the radio buzzing with chatter.

"Well, that decides it for us. We should get out of here before that backup arrives. Amal, can you lead us to your lair?"

"Fine with me, as long as there's no traitors among us." Concerto fixed each person in turn with a glare.

All of a sudden, the sky flashes brilliant with red-orange light.

"Huhm. That's probably a good sign, at least for us. Is it any of you causing this?"

"Don't look at me," the man said. "My powers are far more... intimate than that."

"I'd hold off any celebrating until we find out who it is."

“Wasn’t there someone looking for a red orange orb back at the market? Maybe he has something to do with this.”

As the group talked amongst themselves, loud noises came from the distance. The noises were repetitive and slowly growing closer, creating a "chuff chuff chuff" sound as they continued to get louder and louder, coming from a southeast direction. Anyone who has experience with the technology of this world would recognize it fairly quickly as the distinctive noise of a helicopter, although there was definitely more than one approaching.

The man stared off to where the sound was coming from, narrowing his eyes at the sky. "To think that they can't take 'no' for an answer," he said quietly.

The problem is, I think, that we don't really have any idea where we're going, and our characters aren't quite ready to get along

I mean, I just initiated an apocalypse. Nothing spurs cooperation like impending annihilation, right?

Touché. Let's add some panic

"Guys, I think we need to be a little more worried about what looks like a giant fireball"

I suppose I didn't make it clear. The flash of light was the universe charging up- the main effect of that is to prevent anyone from being able to escape. The real killer is going to be reality literally disintegrating.

You didn't. But it kind of looked like a distant explosion if you squinted hard
