Fadran walks in. "Daolan was bonded to a withergeist? I remember fighting a bunch of unbonded ones, and those were easy enough, but wasn't there a guy at some point who was bonded to one? The son of the Fallen King or something like that?"

Quick note- while both Myrkaal were bonded to withergeists, that would not be apparent simply from looking at them. Also, Daolan never bonded a withergeist, as far as I'm aware...

Someone knew Myrkaal was bonded, and I guess I was mistaken about Daolan (I seem to recall someone saying that he had been forced to bond a withergeist, which was part of how The Doctor controlled him, but that could've just been a fabricated memory).

The soldiers nodded and started to stand up taller.

How, exactly, does one control an entire army? Xino, you're impressive.

No, that's not how the Doctor controlled him. :)

"The... silver fox guys? What does that mean, exactly?"

"Those monsters escaped the prison after the gates were destroyed. They were among the first that I cast into that place. Wyrn cannot stop them on his own because they are so must mightier than any mortal creature. If they are here then this world is in grave danger indeed."

Vale taps at the command tent's door flap. "May we enter, Fadran?"

Chrysler smiles at Andante. "What do you think, you want to go sit in on a strategy meeting or go learn how to blow stuff up?"

"Oh, hey Chrysler! Who's this?" Andante smiled at the unfamiliar person.

"I don't collect magics. I just like to know how things work in places different from Sel. And... you said you bond it? Interesting."

"The spirit merges with the soul," said Psyder. "Power is then drawn out... and used."

In a flash, he disappeared and reappeared behind her.

I'm going to assume someone filled Rien in.

Rien sat down on a stump, head spinning. Losing half the army was bad enough; now they had to lose Daolan and Herate as well? It was like a nightmare, except horribly, undeniably real.

He watched the new general - one of Herate's new friends, a man Rien didn't know - file into the command tent. Instinctively, he started to walk over before he remembered the facts of the situation. Daolan had only let him in the tent so he could learn how the army was run- he'd never actually provided anything. The newcomers wouldn't know anything about that, and he'd probably just get in their way.

Sighing, he sat back down on his stump and waited for orders.

I told you that :P but I don't think there's any way the characters would know that. Who would have told them?

Daolan was not forced to bond a withergeist; Psyder discussing them with him was just foreshadowing.

Jeffery broke free of his embrace with his wife.

"Ashley," he said solemnly, "there's something important I need to tell you." He exhaled. "It's about Vapor."

Ashley's breath caught. "What?" she whispered.

His eyes met hers.

"She's alive," he said.

You know what would be interesting? If Fox was somehow related to these.

I pretty sure there's only one- dyrlings tend to be unique. I suppose it's possible, I don't remember Fox's backstory exactly... but the fox lived a literal eternity ago, so it seems unlikely.

Maybe she's a descendant, or something.

"No it is not. They are likely far more dangerous now than ever before. Being locked away for all eternity could make them angry."

I guess they're a race now? :P I mean, there's still only one on Sel... Anyways, they likely all would have been locked up. Again, it's possible - but it doesn't seem like it would serve much narrative purpose for how unlikely it is.

"Fortunate we don't just have to use mortal armies, then. Is there a way we can isolate it away from civilians and our soldiers?"

The soldiers began to disperse, finding places to train or gather while they waited.

Kailer walked into the command tent and saluted. "Sir, I've found fourteen more ranked officers."

So the more I learn about them, the better we'll be able to fight them... or the better they'll be able to fight us? Do I count as one of Wyrn's people now? "So how does it work?"

"Yeah, I got one!"

Well, Chrysler was asking Andante outside the tent but good to know regardless.

"All right, that's good. Hmm... how would you like to learn some defensive spells?"

"Great" Chrysler pulls out some rune dust from her pack and drops it into Andante's hand. "This is the first shield spell I learned. I still use it all the time, so this will always be useful for you. We're going to give it a few tries and then I want you to try and Call the rune, ok?"

"It is fairly simple," said Psyder, his shadow deepening. "Simply let it inside."

With that, he slammed the withergeist into her navel.
