"Hardly. In my current state I can only hold this for so long. It is draining."

"Oh. Then let's go. Up the wall! Ayia, can you give us some handholds?"

"Of course--"

"--Don't you dare--"

"Fadran. What else would I have said?" Ayia began holding up metal rods against the wall and Stabalizing them to create a ladder.

No emotion appears on Rish's face, but within a spark bursts alight. Rish takes a step forward and the cup in Vapor's hands explodes in a burst of power. "Such power and promise. Yet you were too foolish to follow even simple instructions. How will you ever learn." The waters melt, rear up as a lion and slam into Vapor. "If you will not learn the easy way you will learn the hard way."

Vapor straightened up. "I did exactly what you asked me to? Why is that not enough for you? I find myself in this place with no memories or anything, and you leave me to be beaten up by these strange creature thing, and then I make one mistake, and you say I'm not good enough?" She steps out of the water. "I'm leaving here." She reaches into her mind and finds a resource there, pulling her in. She looks back for one second at Rish, seeming scared. Alone, right before she is pulled into a strange room. Vapor stares around at the place. It is completely empty, just the shell of a room. Is this my mindscape? she thinks, looking around.

"We are hidden for now. I have bent the light of day around us. None will see us."

"What about the light of souls?" asked Ashley.

"That would require a spell of a most particular nature. I know it's type. It is costly. I have not cast such a spell."

Ashley ran her hand over some script carved into the castle walls.

"I know the group who made these carvings," she said. "It is highly probable that there are those among them that can see such light."

"If so let them come." For a moment the monster emerges. "Let them see. It will be the last thing that they ever see." I shove the creature back into its cage. "If necessary there are steps that we can take." My expression is neutral.

"Careful," said Ashley softly. "Arrogance can get people killed."

I nod. "I know this well. After many eons I have learned this all too well."

"That's making assumptions. My 'orders' are never final, if you could even call them that. I make suggestions, and people follow them. It's a system based on trust, not subjugation."

Ayia returned, hopping off her Line, expression more serious than it was usually. "I didn't see him in either, but the lighting wasn't great. In other words, we're going to have to wing it."

"Trust is fallible. What happens if someone is unworthy of trust?"

Andante beamed at him. "Thank you."

Ayia dropped down. "Done. Go ahead."

Fadran began climbing the magical ladder.

Hareon started climbing the ladder, followed by Andante.

Ayia was a little bit too excited to be on a new thread to be reunited with her old friend, anxiously hopping about as they traveled through the forest.

Chrysler and Vale pause their argument they've been having this whole time as they see the group heading for the castle. They can finish this later when people aren't being even dumber than what both of them think of each other.

After a moment of hesitation I quickly begin to ascend the ladder after the others.

When Fadran crested the wall, he said, “if someone’s unworthy of your trust, then don’t trust them.”

I crest the wall. Thirsty flames rise again. I see flesh that can be broken and for a moment I consider shedding blood. In an instant I strike the beast down. With a shudder of weakness I follow Fadran.

Fadran begins opening the door, then, when Nath catches up, asks, "so you're, like, Fox's dad now?"
