Because the marionette said so.

But it couldn't because an Author said that it couldn't and very few characters were able to ignore that. Among them were great names like Kilometers Fiftylives and not the marionette.

BUT a different Author said it could. And if it couldn't, the marionette just sat outside of the lair waiting for when Platypus would leave, and the moment he did he would be followed.
