There was a glowing tear in the sky behind Nerdy and the Once-Author. "Look, I'm sure this is a great plot hook, but I'm tired and want to finish my duel. C'mon, Once-Author. I'm going through that hole. I'm guessing it'll bring us back."

now here me out... they do this entire quest, and at the end they find the fused weapon, but then they can't separate it, so the duel becomes over who gets it, and then the loser of the duel manages to separate it.

Spook opened his mouth, closed it. He looked Darkness up and down, trembling. Darkness smiled at him, taking advantage of whose body he was controlling. No was not the time to speak, so Darkness didn't. He waited, watching Spook's face. Finally, he said, taking note of a particular twitch of Spook's mouth, "True power is whatever the user of it desires it to be.

Spook trembled, looking down at the cup in his trembling hands, the rippling wine.

He fought within himself, treason and reason in turmoil.

Then, he stopped. The son of Thaidakar looked up at Darkness and made a decision.

Nerdy walked through the glowing tear in the sky.

A resounding note, reverberating in its wrongness, struck everywhere.

But it soon became many notes. A cascade of seemingly light-hearted sounds that instead filled one’s heart with a sickening sense of dread. Soon, a voice softly began to emerge. Humming, at first, but quickly evolving into words. Impossibly deep, impossibly catchy. It sung a familiar tune, one Nerdy had hoped to forget. But fate was not a kind mistress. 

”Never gonna give you up…”

(Feel free to disregard this if you are intending to have a more serious story, I am not caught up on it at all )
