Metacognition he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) Night 3: A Convenient TradeDalinar was being followed… again. At least this time I know who, he thought with a grin as he glanced back behind him. There, running not more than four to five paces back, was a mob of angry Villagers. He’d been barely keeping ahead of them ever since they had found him in the early afternoon. It was getting close to sundown now. This may be the most exercise I’ve gotten in awhile! He thought as he spun around another corner. This time, he was being careful. After last night and the attempt on his life, Dalinar realized that the Village, in its state of hypertension at the moment, might not take too kindly to his “trades.” So he’d traded someone’s map of the town with an old treasure map he had. He’d already gotten the treasure, but that wasn’t important. It was the journey that mattered and so he considered it a more than fair trade. He’d then studied it all night to make sure he knew the best routes through the town and wouldn’t get caught by anymore dead ends. Then, he’d made another trade this morning, this time he’d left only an empty bottle. An item he wasn’t using anymore for an item that the owner wasn’t using anymore. That should be fair. From there, he just laid low. He knew it was only a matter of time before everyone turned on him. The fact that it took them till the afternoon was a pleasant surprise, but it just seemed inevitable. And that’s how they’d gotten here- with Dalinar leading the Village in the most ridiculous and dangerous game of tag ever. As the sun started to set on the horizon, Dalinar put his plan into action. Rather than darting between buildings and trying to be as random as possible, he took a quick left and then sprinted for all he was worth. He gained a little bit of ground on the Villagers behind him, but lost it again when he had to slow down to throw open the door to the Letter Sixteen. He dodged his way past all the tables and chairs, upsetting some of them to help block the angry Villagers’ way. As the mob tried to push past the bottleneck of a door and through the room, Dalinar lept up the stairs, taking them two at a time. By the time the Villagers had managed to escape the maze of tables and to the stairs, Dalinar had already reached the third floor and was opening the hatch to the roof. Once on the roof, he finally stopped running. With his hands on his knees, he let himself pant and rest for a moment. It was only for a moment though, because it wasn’t any longer than that before the mob of Villagers spilled out onto the roof themselves.“We’ve got you now!” One of them yelled, brandishing a shovel. “It was you who knifed Kip, wasn’t it?” yelled another. Dalinar held up a finger as he gasped in a few last breaths. Then with a smile, he stood up straight to face his accusers. “I’m dreadfully sorry for all of this. My, that was exhilarating! I thought I almost lost you a few times, but you guys are persistent!”The mob grumbled at his nonchalant attitude. “Just answer the question!”Dalinar held up his hands questioningly. “I was busy last night with someone else trying to kill me! Do you really think that I could be in both places at once? Sorry, ladies and gentlemen, but you’ve got the wrong guy.”“It’s a long night,” someone else in the crowd quipped. Dalinar could tell they weren’t going to be deterred. They’d already determined his guilt.Leading them on a merry chase probably didn’t improve their mood any either. It seemed like he was going to have to enact his plan after all. “Well then,” he said as he backed up towards the edge of the roof, “I don’t know how to convince you. I didn’t do it, but if you won’t take me on my word, then I guess there’s only one thing left to do.” “Right,” said one of the Villagers. “It’s time to str-”The Villager cut off mid sentence as Dalinar threw himself off the side of the building. He tumbled through the air before landing directly on his back… onto the mattress from Kip’s room. It was the other item he’d traded for earlier in the day. The mattress softened the blow just enough and while he thought he heard a few ribs crack, he was still alive. The Villagers on the roof gawked at him as he gingerly stood up, smiled at them and gave them a little wave, before he jogged off into the failing light. Day 2 had ended and Night 3 has begun! Jondesu he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Dalinar… *slow clap*. Elim or not, you deserve to stay alive after all that. Herowannabe he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Nice write up @Metacognition! Hmm... Dalinar wasn't lying about the pewter. Dang. AND apparently somebody decided to sooth me (or the rioter turned me to a no-vote, but I'm pretty sure that a rioter can't do that). Were there any other vote shenanigans? Assuming that was it, we have now had a rioter, a lurcher, and a soother all go out of their way to protect Dalinar, and since he had pewter last cycle we can confirm that he wasn't the lurcher or the soother. I'm inclined to think that the soother was one of the people who cast suspicion on me... speaking of which, I have some more things to say to those that suspect me, but I don't have time at the moment. I'd call for any seekers to scan me tonight so I can prove my innocence to at least one person, but that would just invite the spiked players to smoke me like they lurched Dalinar. So instead, Seekers, scan whoever you feel like. @Metacognition: first off, great write up! I enjoyed that one. Second, a couple questions: a rioter cannot riot someone into a no-vote, right? I seem to remember that from previous games. Do we have a Tineye this cycle? Can we send PMs? Or no? thanks. Herwynbe slipped into the room and shut the door behind him. As his eyes adjusted to the dim light he could make out a figure sitting in an arm chair next to the fire- the only source of light in the room Herwynbe's master. "Well?" The figure asked. "I have done as you requested, but I am afraid that the thief escaped. His escape was only made possible by the use of allomancy, I think." Herwynbe said, bowing his head. He didn't come any closer to the figure in the arm chair. His master preferred privacy. Herwynbe had learned that lesson the hard way. "That is unfortunate." The figure said, lifting a hand holding an empty goblet. Herwynbe stepped forward and filled the goblet. Venture's finest vintage of wine, of course. Nothing less. "But only a minor setback," the figure said, taking a sip of the wine. "We will have the thief soon enough, along with the rest of his companions. I am sure that they are the ones I have been looking for. You remember your instructions?" "Yes, master," Herwynbe said, bowing his head again. "Once they have been dealt with I am to find any metal piercing their bodies and bring it to you." He didn't understand why, exactly, that the metal piercings were important, but it was not his place to question his instructions. "Good," the figure said. "You may leave me." Herwynbe bowed one last time, then left the room, quietly shutting the door behind him. 1

It's always awesome to hear when a write up is appreciated. A Rioter can riot someone to a No Vote. I'm pretty sure that Gamma used this exact trick a few times in LG2 to make people think he was a Soother. EDIT: I believe what you are thinking of is the fact that a Rioter/Soother cannot change a No Vote to a Vote. The reasoning behind this is because there has to be some level of emotional investment for the Emotional Allomancers to manipulate in the first place. Not that a Soother can change a No Vote to a Vote anyways, but you get the idea. PMs are NOT open. If the status of the PM situation changes, I will let you know at that time. Until then, you can safely assume that the status from the last time it changed is still currently in effect. Edited January 16, 2017 by Metacognition 2
STINK he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I'm so glad that everyone decided to waste a lynch. 1
Arraenae Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Well crem. Looks like Dalinar wasn't lying. If any Coinshots out there feel up to it, he should be open to attack now, if he doesn't get protected again. Or you could go for the person with the next most votes, Herowannabe. Or go for the person you're most suspicious of.
Elenion he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 It appears that someone Soothed/Rioted Dalinar as well as Hero. I'm going to bed since Cassius needs his beauty sleep (it's nearly 1 in the morning my time), but I would most appreciate if someone would compare the votes cast yesterday to the vote tally to see if there are any more discrepancies. 2
Gamma Fiend he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Eh. I basically expected this to happen, and kept debating with myself at work whether or not this lynch would actually have have merit... I guess we at least know Dalinar was telling the truth about pewter. And depending on how Meta does the roll for what metal Mistborns get each cycle, there'd be a slim chance of him getting pewter again. I honestly just figured the *safest* course of action was to just follow through with the lynch of Dalinar because of the off chance he was lying about actually having pewter to potentially stall for one last cycle, and that seemed to be the case regardless.... so, with that.... we still don't actually have much to go on. Something something about spilt milk and rusted metal.... As far as the night goes, I would just recommend we let our Power Roles use their best judgement as opposed to any actual coordination, especially sans PMs. I haven't been able to analyze any actual votes tallies/switches and manipulations to really get any solid leads off of that though. I've been trying to use my time away to not take how players are posting compared to their "usual play style", especially since I've been so far removed from the meta, and just been trying to find similar themes or ideas between posts, and get a feel for my suspicions that way. With that, I've definitely been keeping an eye on Lopen, Madagascar and Hemelurgic headshot. It may simply be tunneling in these first few cycles, but their posts just seem more or less echo chambers that are stirring things up more than leading anywhere, but like I said, that's just my initial feeling after semi-skimming things. Lopen should have enough past experience with myself and others to be able to direct the attacks on Wilson the first night to try and take out a potential key player, also planting the seed of their theory connection me to poor old dead Kip. See, I can come up with my own radical theories.

Hemalurgic Headshot he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Joe stumbled over to the corner. He had tripped at least twice on every single cobble in all of Tyrian Falls during that weird marathon event the town seemed to be doing. Reginald, the communist guy, seemed to be in the lead, but Joe couldn't see anything but the ground half of the time. Eventually, he gave up and walked over here. He slid down into the ash and sighed. What a crazy day. ... Suddenly, Joe slapped himself across the face, much harder than he could probably do in any other circumstance. He hadn't made the ash taco vendor! An entire day wasted! Joe paused. Wasn't every day wasted? Now Joe was confused, so he fell over. Squeak. "Go away now. I'm a living ball of pain and I'm confused." Joe moaned. Squeak. "You're saying that the marathon wasn't actually a marathon?" Squeak. "Well, dang. What was it then?" Squeak squeak. "A lynch? Oh. That's why they kept yelling hurtful things at Reginald. I didn't care though. He's Communist." Rat rolled his eyes. Squeak. "But he survived?" Squeak. "Who would put a mattress in the middle of the street? Wait, on second thought, perhaps they should do it again, because I want that mattress." Squeak squeak, squeak squeak. "Hey, the ash isn't that soft. And Reginald is evil? I thought you weren't going to involve yourself in this 'fiasco.'" Squeak. "Oh, so you just hate him?" Squeak. "Well, why didn't you just trip him while he was running?" Squeak. "Blah blah blah, 'that's interference', blah blah. Seriously, Rat? Go eat something, I'm going to sleep." Rat scurried off into the darkness. 4
Stick. she/her Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Why would the soother/rioter mess up the votes when there was obviously no chance of shifting the majority of the votes onto someone else though
manukos he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 well i am confused , is he a thug but got protected last turn? idk anything anymore , it sure sucks that we wasted a lynch early on we need information and tineyes can't reveal them selves to avoid death ..... is dalinar inocent 100% ? if yes they can pm him to tell him what they know but it is risky if we are unsure of his innocence Enias looked down at the mattressas dalinar fell on it , releasing a cloud of dust he shivered at the thought that his bed could had become so dirty in his absence . so , he run back home to check 2
Droughtbringer Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 3 hours ago, Manukos said: and tineyes can't reveal them selves to avoid death No PM's, so no tineyes. Drought looked down, or, at least, he attempted to, he moved his head down, but that did not suddenly confer upon him the great gift of sight, or suddenly make the world appear about him in some new way that he could see. It gave him a kink in his neck, and that was all. Drought was confused about all of this talk of spiked, and not trusting metal, and all that jazz. So he stared out across the road and watched (metaphorically speaking of course) and waited for someone to, not thinking the blind man would be able to identify them by something as silly as their footsteps, cross in front of him and do something interesting. Life really was dull these days even with angry mobs and people dying. 2
Jondesu he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Remart thumped down the street, almost not noticing the blind man sitting on the corner. Figuring the man would learn his unique gait soon enough anyways (anyone could recognize it if they'd met him before), he walked over next to him and leaned against the wall. Too hard to get up with the peg leg if he actually sat on the ground. "How goes it on the corner?" He paused, then somewhat grudgingly held out half of his sandwich as well. "Here, I figure you might be hungry out here. I always am." 2
Hemalurgic Headshot he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Joe woke up. Someone had let an elephant stomp around some tin barrels, get one stuck on each foot, then let it eat a hundred pounds of beans. He squinted. No, that was Remart. He was talking to that man on the other corner. Heh, bandwagoner. Joe is the first and the last of the corner, and anyone else is a bandwagoner. Joe glanced around. Just making sure there aren't any elephants. 2

Wyrmhero he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) Like I said before, there's the law of the Empire, and then there's the Law. Sometimes it's difficult to separate the two; other times, not so hard. Don't get me wrong, laws matter. We need them. It's what makes a group of people into civilisation. You look at the cities and towns of The Final Empire, and compare it to the edge of the world. It's lawless there - Skaa go there to escape the horrors of the Empire, and all they do is steal and thieve and die. Some might think that's better than being squashed underfoot by the Empire, but at least in Luthadel it wasn't likely you'd get your throat cut over the last piece of stale bread you stole from some poor sod just as miserable as you. ...Where was I? Oh yeah, the law and the Law. Point was, there were some things that the Law said was okay, but that the law said was not okay. Sometimes you had to commit a small crime to stop the big crime taking place. A necessary evil, maybe? I don't know, I never liked the idea. But here I am, breaking into the dead guardsman's house in the dead of night to look for clues. I was breaking the law, but for a good reason. It felt wrong, but how could I do anything else if it could stop someone dying? I thought of myself as a good man, but I'd be willing to admit I've done things I'm not proud of, even outside of being a guard up in the capital. This casual bit of B&E bothered me, but I still felt it was for a good cause. Maybe that justified it. Maybe not. I think everyone in this profession ends up going a bit dark. You spend too much time around crooks is the problem. You start to think like them, start to think that you could do things better if it wasn't for all the people and rules stopping you. Maybe it was true; I certainly felt like it was right now, that it was better to break into a dead guy's house to save the village. But I didn't like feeling like that, that I was stopping to their level. Did that make me better in any way than if I didn't feel bad? Hell, I don't know. My partner was always the one asking these things. I don't get on with philosophy, seems pointless to ask those questions when the world's ending. All I knew is that it didn't feel right, but it was better I do something that twiddle my thumbs waiting to die. There was an outspoken Terrisman (well, outspoken for a Terrisman) back in Luthadel I met once, when I was fleeing the city. 'Evil prospers when good men do nothing', he said, like he was preaching to me. Perhaps he was, in a way. I did nothing back then, was just concerned with saving my own sorry skin. But when I got to this village and stopped here, I had time to think about it. His words spoke to me, I guess. It's why I decided to start investigating crimes. Never met the guy again. He's probably dead now, considering he was helping the skaa rebellion. You don't last long doing that. But I do still think about him after all these years. His words still speak to me, deep down. I had no idea if what I was doing right now was right or wrong in the grand scheme of things, but it sure as Hell felt better than doing nothing. 7 hours ago, Metacognition said: Am I close? Nyali she/her Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Ugh, guess he was telling the truth. Stupid Mistwraiths are waaay too durable. No lynch means no new 100% confirmed information, and the voting patterns aren't helpful because most of us are sure Dalinar is a Mistwraith, but some didn't vote for him because they thought it would waste the lynch (which it wound up doing)...
DrakeMarshall he/him Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Night was falling over Tyrian Falls. Ash, also, was falling over Tyrian falls. Felix's eyes snapped open in the middle of the night, the bloodthirsty, inexorable face of a spiked burned into his mind. The image inevitably brought back another time... Felix waited, his shift in Jayce's workshop nearly complete. Everything was wrong. Screams from the shop next door, followed by harsh voices and then silence. Felix hoped Denton was alright... He was the only skaa who ran a shop on this street. The guards were sweeping the entire row, and Felix would be next. This wouldn't be a problem, except Felix had a feeling he knew what they were looking for. Or, who, rather. Andra, one of Denton's workers, had hidden here just a few minutes ago. Jayce was as of yet unaware of this, but Felix had sheltered her, if with a sense of resignation. Everybody knew you couldn't hide from the ministry. Especially if the rumors he heard were true. Felix heard a loud crash from the shop front. Jayce let out a yelp. Felix opened the side-room door a crack and cautiously looked on. The front door casually splintered. The dread mists sending feelers into the room. A detachment of guards standing in his door, spearheaded by... Lord Ruler... An axe of pure obsidian glinted in one of its hands. It wore the uniform of the Canton of Inquisition. A pair of twin spikes shone dully in the creature's eye sockets, framed by a set of impossibly complex markings tattooed around the creature's eyes, jet black but punctuated by a single, blood red slash slash between the eyes. Somehow, even without the eyes, Felix thought he saw fury in that face... No, not just fury... Anticipation. The creature wanted to kill. Lord Ruler... Lord Ruler... What did Andra do to draw out a STEEL INQUISITOR! Felix had seriously misjudged the situation. Andra had no chance. Come to think of it, he had no chance either. That creature would kill them all... Felix stood frozen by the door. Seconds felt like eternities. The guards waited attentively behind the creature, looking somewhat uncomfortable. The creature simply waited, totally ignoring Jayce. The twin spikes surveyed the room, as if it could see out of the polished steel discs. It didn't act blind. It could sense things around it... Particularly the kind of thing they were hunting Andra for. Just a few more moments, and it would end... Then, just like that... It left. It disappeared into the mists like the nightmare it was, the soldiers dutifully disappearing after it. The only evidence of its visit was the splinters of the shop's front door still scattered across the room. Felix was back in the manor in Tyrian Falls. He gripped the silver spear around his neck like a lifeline. That was the Survivor's first gift to us... There was a reason that inquisitor hadn't come for them. He trusted that the town would survive the spiked, even as he understood that there would be casualties. The battle's not over. Felix quickly dressed and left his room. He couldn't sleep. As he walked down the hall, he thought about Reginald. Why did people call for his death so much? He was a thief, yes... And yet, back in Luthadel, some of the best men I knew were thieves. The survivor himself had once been a thief! When the law is evil, how can you fault those who break it? And then... There's the fact that he survived... I have believed from the start that the survivor would preserve this town... Felix saw a ring of villagers congregated in the manor. I guess I'm not the only one who can't sleep right now... "Townspeople... I have no doubt you wonder about Reginald's survival at this hour. Well, I cannot help but conclude that we are wrong to put him to death. From the beginning, he has known he would survive... And, true to his word, he has. Earlier I assured you that the survivor would protect us when we most need it. Do you doubt this now? This man has survived four attempts on his life. Are we to continue defying the survivor's manifest will by attempting to kill the man yet a fifth time? Particularly when it seems as if he has been truthful with us all along? You suspect him because he is a thief. Fine then. You want to put him to death for breaking the law? Let the one here who hasn't broken the Lord Tyrant's law strike the first blow!" That last line felt familiar to Felix for some reason... No doubt he had read it somewhere. Now, for RP reasons I couldn't resist defending Dalinar. However, OOC I'm not all that sure he is innocent. He could very easily be an elim pewterarm, and frankly if we gave up right now we would be forfeiting the game. But it should also be screamingly obvious that a coinshot should not target Dalinar tonight. Whether or not Dalinar is guilty, we have pretty good reason to believe that the lurcher is an eliminator. And any lurcher elim with half a brain would be protecting Dalinar tonight, whether or not he was one of them. Coinshot, kill someone else who is suspicious tonight. If people still want to kill Dalinar, save the lynch for tomorrow morning when it is reasonably certain that he cannot be protected again. Mind you, I'm not 100% sure if I would vote to lynch him tomorrow. I'm just saying, whether or not you want him dead, wasting a coinshot kill on him tonight would be a poor decision. 2
Dalinar Kholin Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Reginald snuck into Remart's bedroom, wincing slightly as his wrapped ribs groaned in protest. Bother, why'd he steal Kipper's mattress? Wasn't very comfortable at all. Now if he'd stolen Remart's he would've been right as rain (though, that did provoke an important question. Was rain really right? If so in what way? Bother. He wished he had more time to ponder all these mysteries, but at last, his fellow citizens seemed determined to see him offed. Probably wanted the treasure he'd been collecting over the past twenty years, or maybe just to burn the manifesto he'd been preparing. Regardless, that was why he had to enact The Plan. He made sure to toss a few coins at drought every time he passed by (usually picked up from Sothe who just couldn't keep a hold of them for some reason. Seriously, it was like taking candy from a baby.) So when he'd passed Drought had seen fit to inform him Remart was on a nighttime walk. He took a bite out of the chicken leg before stuffing it into one of his coats multitude of pockets. MREOW!! the cat roared, viciously objecting to the chicken leg which had been stuffed on top of it. "Whoops," Dalinar muttered, before moving it to a different pocket. He replaced the chicken leg with some pastries of Joe's before continuing his search. Now, where was that butter? 3
