Citadel16 he/him Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 this is a fascinating idea. I may know people who refer to a roast as a grenade. In Hebrew, pomegranate and grenade are literally the same word...... If anything goes wrong we can fall back on Rapunzel's trusty frying pan. Though a superhero with actual influence might help more than raw power......Tony Stark? Maybe? We can make like a polyjuice potion that makes people smarter and kinder and spike the national waterways with it.... or you know, we could not vote for him. or Hillary. or Bernie. or... wait, who else is there?
Delightful Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 I thought Bernie was out of the running? And uh, scary amounts of people have voted for Trump already.......I'm not actually advocating for vigilantes or anything, but it's looking pretty scary. And I'm not even American.

Or just won the prize for it, at least. We need this potion badly. or you know, we could not vote for him. or Hillary. or Bernie. or... wait, who else is there? No one, unless you want to write in one of the candidates who's dropped out.
Delightful Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) I think Hebrew just became Most Awesome Language. Or just won the prize for it, at least. The word is Rimon. I think the linguistic connection is that they're both small and round and have lots of (seeds/explosive) inside......and possibly they both explode when you try to open them. Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 The one good thing about Trump winning, is that people will stop making jokes about Time travelers killing Hitler.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Argh, don't get me started on what I'll do if Trump wins the election. I imagine grumble, since there is not much else one CAN do other than that.
Delightful Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 I imagine grumble, since there is not much else one CAN do other than that. Go insane, leave the country, hide in a bunker with endless tubs of ice cream......there are actually quite a few options here. 1
Mestiv he/him Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 In Polish pomegrante and grenade are the same word too... that's interesting for us it's "granat", which also is a color (shade of blue) and a mineral. What an elastic word it is 2
Edgedancer he/him Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 For reference, in german pomegrante is Granatapfel and grenades are Granaten.
Zathoth Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Granatäpple, literally grenade apple. ... this is pretty weird...
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Whelp, I have a three-day weekend coming up here soon (not this week but the week after next, IIRC) and I want to do something off the beaten path, something that'll teach me more about my new home. So I've been looking at Atlas Obscura, but the problem is, there are so many options. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? 1

Abandoned amusement park, always trespass into abandoned amusement parks. Voodoo museum may be interesting as well.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Abandoned amusement park, always trespass into abandoned amusement parks. Voodoo museum may be interesting as well. I was leaning toward the voodoo museum, though a few other spots looked interesting. I'm still in my probationary period at work, so I'd rather avoid illegal trespass right now.

Silverblade5 he/him Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 If trump wins, I'm probably doing college in Canada.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 If trump wins, I'm probably doing college in Canada. If Trump wins, I hope every state in America secedes from the Union. 1

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Buffy: Angel lost his soul after sleeping with Buffy. 1
Silverblade5 he/him Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 I believe it's relevant: Was that a SAO reference? If so, it was w good one.
Oversleep Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) Was that a SAO reference? If so, it was w good one. No. The xkcd here is from November 6, 2006. Wikipedia says SAO started in 2009. Explainxkcd states it's a reference to this horror movie. BTW, I know SAO is popular, but by no means it's the Trope Maker of You Die In Real Life - Matrix did it back in 1999. I'm not sure whether TRON did it in 1982. Edited May 10, 2016 by Oversleep
Kaymyth she/her Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Look! A ribbon! And here are a couple of pictures of the Mark II armor up on stage. They're kind of blurry, but good enough to give you guys a general idea until the professional pics come in. The scary part is that I am now pondering the Mark III version for WorldCon. Buffy: Angel lost his soul after sleeping with Buffy. Ooo, you're ramping up into the meaty feels of the season. 3
Delightful Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 Granatäpple, literally grenade apple. ... this is pretty weird... That's pomegranate? This is so fascinating. I've also heard, not sure if it's correct, that the fruit is called ananas in every language except English, in which it's called pineapple. Does that hold true in Polish and German?

Swedish, but yes, pineapple is ananas.
