I'd ask if she realized you were on an interview call, but of course she did. 'Cause she doesn't care about any opportunities for you outside an x-mile radius of Spokane.

I can't tell if she's trying to sabotage me or not. I mean, I told her what time the interview was, but she couldve forgotten. And she's been asking me what I've been doing to prepare for it for the past week, so I can't tell if she's trying to get in my head or if she genuinely thinks she's being helpful.

Edit: The last question wasn't super long.

Huh, i actually figured you didn't tell her in advance to try and avoid having her do something like this.

Goes to show what I think about your mother.

Edit: Then your mother at least couldn't do too much damage and everything could still be alright.

I don't think she sabotaged me on purpose; I think she just forgot what time my interview was. I texted her to apologize for not answering, though, since I know she's probably stewing about it right now. <_< Whatever the case, direct sabotage doesn't seem like her style.

Maybe. It was my least favorite question: "Why should we hire you?" Probably the worst one to stumble through, honestly. :(

It's probably a combination of both.  The genuine helpful thing because she has to keep up the self-illusion of being a Good Mother , with the sabotaging being subconscious and/or something she'd never admit to.  But after all, she knows best, and wouldn't you be better off near your family?  Even if it takes longer to find a job?

It really disturbs me how easily I get into some people's heads sometimes.

I don't suppose that, "Because I am made of 100% awesome!" would not be an appropriately professional answer?

Probably, yeah. I don't know; her reasoning is hard for me to read lately. On the one hand, she seems to want me to live close because of all the typical "want my kids close" reasons she has. On the other, we've been getting along poorly lately, so she might be thinking some distance would be good, if only so I can see how good I have it when my family is close. So….I don't know if she wants me to get this job or not.

Heh. It might've gotten a few laughs. Trouble is, I was so off-balance by that point that I had difficulty thinking of one good reason why they should. :(

"Why should we hire you?"

"Because I can come up with better interview questions than that!"

Or

"I'm not here to do your job!"

:P

The mother incident sucks, and I believe is more rooted in her self-centeredness than any desire to sabotage your job search.

She just seems like the type of person to enter the room and say, "I'm Twimom, look at me!"

That would've been funny. :P

And yeah, that seems like the most likely explanation. Less "She must not get this job!" and more "NOTICE MEEEEEEE".

Kaymyth are you sure that wasn't the way into Diagon Alley?

Twi I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel any better, there was an image set I saw the other day about how to nail an interview. Advice included:

"When asked where you see yourself in three years, tip the interviewer out of their chair, take it, and say "here""

"Show your confidence. After every question kiss your fist and whisper "nailed it""

"Show your ability to delegate by sending someone else to the interview for you"

I'll see if I can find it, they were hilarious. :)

So today, I performed a flute solo for an adjudicated event. The solo itself went very well. The waiting around for 4 hours only for my score to be skipped over on the list did not work out so well. Due to other things going on, I had to leave before they put it on the list. So I still don't know how well I actually did. It's infuriating.

I'm supposedly not getting mine until thursday, which I can only guess is divine punishment for getting Shadows of Self too early.

Karma - it's a thing.

Sometimes I really do wonder if it is XD

The evil in the universe is a constant, if if I get a book too early I'll get the next one too late, if I have a good day someone else is having a terrible one, if we solve world hunger another planet is going to explode.

Just get it on kindle or another ebook format. It's delivered to your device instantly. And then afterwards, your copy arrives and you can just flip through the book and reread your favorite parts. It's what I do every time.

But there's just something about having the physical book for the first read that is unrepeatable.  I know, I'm weird.  And old.

I'm younger than you and I refuse...refuse!...to get an ebook in any of its forms...be it for first or subsequent readings, home or travel, give me books or give me ramen noodles! (Which would almost certainly lead to death)
