I got my braces tightened this morning. They really hurt today. I'm having a really hard time not cussing out the world.

I remember your pain.  I'm sorry. :(

Here's a brief summary of the rabies situation in the Philippines. I've never heard of anyone here getting fined or imprisoned for not vaccinating their dogs. People are simply encouraged to get shots within 24 hours of getting bitten by any animal, even your own pet. I got bitten days ago and only went for treatment today, but the doctor didn't seem worried, so I guess that's good. I don't have any fear of needles, thankfully, so today's injections weren't much of a problem. I also don't mind the series of shots I need to take over the next few weeks (unless the puppy survives by next week, because that would mean it didn't have rabies after all).

There's one thing that can be connected to this thread's discussion on mental health issues. The doctor reminded me that being overly anxious about disease could indicate psychological problems. Unfortunately, psychiatric services are *not* affordable here and are usually not covered by health insurance, so I don't intend to see a shrink any time soon. I'll just have to learn to control my anxiety by myself.

Ugh.  Vaccinating pets is a huge deal in the States.  On the bright side, the human injections aren't nearly as bad as they used to be.  You don't have to get the shots in your abdomen anymore.

(Though if the dog didn't break the skin, I think you probably would've been OK anyway. ;) )

Whelp, I'll be staying in Rochester one more night. My flight out got delayed into oblivion, to the point where I couldn't make my connection in Atlanta, and now I'll be flying out tomorrow morning. At least I'll make it in time for work.

Woo-hoo! :P

Edit to clarify: To me, I would be freaking out about arriving in time for work, even though I think with my current job they would be very understanding.

I'm pretty sure you just won about six different Adulting merit badges right there.

And one for having to get up at 4 AM to catch the first of not one, but THREE separate flights back home? <_<

Definitely.  *sagenod*

So is it odd that, after having gotten stuck in an elevator 3 times in the past 2 weeks, I'm a little paranoid every time I get into an elevator now?

Also, given that situation, it is also frustrating that I have to use elevators consistently for my job. Every day. Multiple times a day.

That is all.

So, a little while back, one of my coworkers was in a pretty bad car accident.  She hit a patch of black ice, totaled the car, had to have major surgery done, etc.

Come to find out today, she's been discharged from the hospital, though she can't really fend for herself yet.  And her family refuses to so much as lift a finger to help her.  They've apparently told her that it was all her fault, that <Deity> was punishing her for X reason and she deserved it.

:o:blink::angry:

I am a quivering ball of rage right now.

We're pulling together at work and doing a food drive, trying to gather enough stuff that requires minimal cooking effort so she doesn't have to wobble around on crutches in the kitchen.  I hit Costco on the way home from work tonight.  You can bet people will be checking in with her periodically to see if she needs anything.  But her family is a bunch of horrible people who need to go suffer a horrible fate.

 Yeah, her family sucks. If I lived close, you can bet I'd be breaking out my best crock pot stew recipes (and even now, I'm wondering in vain if it wouldn't be possible to mail her something).

At least she has you and everyone else who banded together to help her.

Thanks. ^_^   I think we've got it covered.  Someone's also making sure that she gets the paperwork to apply for the company's employee help fund.  Mostly now I think we need to have someone pop in and check on her periodically; the accident basically shattered her hip.  She's in pretty rough shape.

Yikes. How long a recovery is she looking at?

In other news, my Rochester-Minneapolis flight was delayed for maintenance, so I'm in a cab headed to Minneapolis with two other grounded passengers and poppy dance music playing over the radio.

Do you know why I am sitting at home, alone now?

Beacause of my Aunt Bessie. A little religious woman, she takes my atheism as possession of the devil, and refuses to go near me. So while my family goes to a reunion hosted by that little bat, I get to sit at home for 17 hours on my own.

I have already broken 2 plates in rage.

"Let's see. There's a flight to LA boarding as we speak. If we hold up the line with random pat-down searches, we might make some of those LA passengers late. Is there time for a random pat-down search?"

"There is ALWAYS time for a random pat-down search." #TSAlogic

I wasn't the one who got that lovely surprise, but I was directly behind that person. I still don't know how I managed to board on time, but here I am, waiting to take off for LA and then Tucson.

WHAT.

Okay so old ladies can be crazy and unreasonable sometimes. But your family acquiesced to said craziness  left you at home?? . I cant even, I'm so sorry.

We're not sure, really.  Hopefully not as long as the last time we had someone get into a bad wreck; that person was out for 8 months.

I think I would've stayed with you just on general principles.  Of course, she'd also probably think that I'm even worse than you are, so my solidarity is a bit empty.  But I would!

So I just went today to adopt a pair of pet rats, because my other rat is totally lonely and depressed since she lost her friend. On my way back, I was waiting at the bus stop. It was raining and snowing (Scottish winter, ugh), so of course there were puddles of water on the road, but they weren't that big, so all the drivers were avoiding the just fine. And then this <incomprehensible sequence of curses> driver on purpose splashed me with water so bad that I looked like I just went swimming in my clothes. I somehow managed to mostly save my rats, but my brand new jacket (that used to be light grey, now it's spotty brown) and trousers unfotunately not. And it is way too cold to stand outside in a totally soaking trousers (90% of my trosers were wet. I can send a photo as a proof.). I'm so angry!

EDIT: I tried to correct the mistakes, but if there are any more words missing and the comment is not understandable because of that, please tell me.

I do not like LA so far. Maybe it's misguided to judge a whole city on their airport, but at this point the city would really have to impress me to blot out this stain. <_<

Unfortunately, a lot of wonderful cities have horrible airports. But would going to Disneyland improve your opinion of LA?  :)

I've never had that experience, but that sounds awful.

LAX is renowned for being one of the most awful airports in the country.

No kidding. <_< I had to hunt for an info board to find out where my flight was boarding. It was a good distance away, so I had to hustle. When I got there, they hadn't started boarding yet, despite the info board saying they were. The flight attendant tasked with making announcements was snippy and rude. We took off a good 15 minutes after our scheduled departure time, so I was actually impressed I landed on time.

I don't know if Disneyland would change my mind about LA, but I'd rather not fly into LAX again to see.

Disney World in Florida is superior to Disneyland anyway.  You've got Epcot!  Epcot is way cooler than the other Disney theme parks.

I'm pretty sure our planned vacation this year is going to be to FL, but James has issues with Disney so we'll probably be going to Universal instead.  Harry Potter Wizarding World, here we come!

Well, that was first time for me, too.

Love your nick though. Makes me think about spiders. xD
