Dilaf.  His training and extra strength/bones should allow him to win fairly easily.  Especially as Vasher doesn't have Nightblood.  After all Nightblood is a contestant and that would make it a handicap match.  A normal sword would glance off Dilaf's reinforced body so Vashers main trick also wouldn't work.  Best hope Vasher has is to immobilize Dilaf but that is a long shot at best.

My money's on Vasher. Yeah, Dilaf's stronger, but Dilaf is a comparatively young, inexperienced champion. Vasher is ancient and shrewd, and even without Nightblood he should have more than enough tricks to level the playing field.

I vote Vasher.

I vote for Vasher too, firstly because I like the character and I really see him as THE master swordsman.

Secondly because I am only in the beginning of Elantris and I have no idea of what Dilaf is capable of yet (and I don't like him at all at the moment ^^'')

Vashe can awaken his clothing to act as extra muscles, can't he? And his cloak can deflect blows. And imobilizing people is not that hard with a lot of Breaths.

Definitely Vasher on all accounts. Dilaf is not my favorite character by a long shot. Vasher is conflicted, tired, and scholarly.

I'm not even going to tally the results for this one, as I can tell Vasher won by a large margin.

Next up is Sylphrena, a mischievous spren, against Adolin, a lady-killing Shardbearer who has shat himself no more than 3 times!

Syl, of course. Adolin can't do anything to her and she can play typical Windspren-jokes with him untill he surrenders.

On the basis that Syl needs Kaladin to be "alive", I'll vote for Adolin on the basis that vasher & nightblood were considered separate because they were both contestants.

Adolin's really cool, and against a lot of other contestants, I'd pick him. But with Syl too, I think I have to go with her.

Adolin. Syl annoys me sometimes.

But at least it clearly isn't a match to the death, since they don't have neither the reasons or the means to do that.

Posted

Unless he'd bonded her, Adolin wouldn't actually be able to hurt Syl, but then again, Syl isn't really capable of much on her own.

I'm not voting for this one. I'm calling a draw.

She can bind his shoelaces nonstop until he has a concussion from all the tripping :)

"Um, Adolin?"

"Yes, Renarin, what is it?"

"You know all of those things you do before duels for good luck?"

"I did them all. Don't worry."

"I think you should add one today."

"Renarin, the duel's about to start."

"Just take out your shoelaces."

"…what?"

"Your shoelaces. Don't wear them, okay?"

"…."

"Trust me on this."

I love Syl's chemistry with Kaladin, but Adolin has grown on me as a character.  I'm excited to see what happens to Adolin.  I think as could go either way.  Is he going to be a Releaser?  Is he going to be Odium's Champion?  Who can say?

Also, I like the combat aspects to these discussions, and Syl can't really fight.  I'm fond of her, but I'm fond of many Sanderson characters and I don't think she's especially interesting in a tournament.

I vote for Adolin for the same reason. Syl would make sense in a popularity contest, but Adolin is much more interesting for a tournamen in my opinion.

Sorry for the late update! Syl managed to hold onto the win by one vote.

Next up is Kaladin, a powerful Windrunner, against Megean/Firefight (haven't read Reckoners yet, so I'm not going to vote).
