QF77: (S)Andor(son) Elimination

REMEMBER THIS, FREEDOM IS A PURE IDEA. IT OCCURS SPONTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT INSTRUCTION. RANDOM ACTS OF INSURRECTION ARE OCCURRING CONSTANTLY THROUGHOUT THE GALAXY. THERE ARE WHOLE ARMIES, BATTALIONS THAT HAVE NO IDEA THAT THEY'VE ALREADY ENLISTED IN THE CAUSE.

REMEMBER THAT THE FRONTIER OF THE REBELLION IS EVERYWHERE. AND EVEN THE SMALLEST ACT OF INSURRECTION PUSHES OUR LINES FORWAR--

"Nonsense like this is exactly what we're charged to prevent here. We have already failed in our duty."

The Director enunciates each word slowly, with emphasis.

"When gentler cures fail, the only recourse is amputation. Better a deliberate sacrifice than to let the whole body fester. This the nature of your reassignment here."

"Wield the knife. Trust nothing and nobody. Welcome to the capital of the empire."

"Let us get on with introductions now," the Director continues briskly. "Your rank and alias will suffice."

QUICK FIX 77: ANDOR ELIMINATION

Welcome to my humble quick fix game! Stay a while, have a look around.

The game will begin on October 25th 5:00am UTC, come what may. (Click here to convert that to your time zone... I still miss the days where we could embed accurate countdowns in our posts.) As per the usual for the format, turns will be 24 hours long in IRL time.

Rules (Google Docs Version)

Spoiler

Factions

Spoiler

ISB OFFICERS: The majority faction.

REBEL SCUM: The minority faction.

The rebellion starts out disorganized and isolated. Unlike your usual red faction, members of the rebellion do not automatically know their faction mates or have secure private communications with them.

Members of the rebellion do have the ability to kill one player each cycle. Every member may submit a target, and a random one will succeed. Friendly fire results will be rerolled once per cycle (without replacement).

Each member of the rebellion may also choose to send 1 anonymous dead drop message per cycle. They may specify any number of other players as recipients.

General Rules

Spoiler
  • The game is broken up into 24 hour cycles.
  • There is a daily vote to remove a player. You may vote for “no removal.”
Players can only be voted out with at least 2 votes. Tied votes are decided randomly.
Daily writeups will include the raw final vote tallies from the previous day.
  • Unlimited private messages are allowed, including group PMs. Go wild!
(Please remember to include the GM, aka yours truly, in your game-related PMs.)
  • Eliminated players will have their role and faction disclosed accurately and publicly.

Key Roles

Spoiler

REBEL SPYMASTER:

You may attempt to recruit a player every cycle. If they are a REBEL, you add them to the AXIS NETWORK, a shared google doc with yourself and all other recruits. Otherwise, nothing happens.

ISB SUPERVISOR:

You may interrogate a player every cycle. If they are part of the AXIS NETWORK doc, you find out and summarily execute them. If they are either a loyal ISB member or a REBEL who hasn’t joined the doc, you fail to turn up any damning evidence against them and nothing happens.

Both of these roles are capable of designating a SUCCESSOR.

If they die, their SUCCESSOR will inherit the role (and lose any role they previously had).

If the SPYMASTER dies without having a REBEL SUCCESSOR designated, the ISB wins.

If the SUPERVISOR dies without having an ISB SUCCESSOR designated, the REBELS win.

This is the only pair of win conditions in the game.

If both happen simultaneously for some reason, it’s a draw.

Minor Roles

Spoiler

TACTICAL: Once in the game, you can arrest another player, foiling any actions they attempt.*

MEDICAL: Once in the game, you can stand by to save another player from all perils short of the vote.

SURVEILLANCE: Once in the game, you can check if a player attempted any action on the current cycle.*

ANALYSIS: Once in the game, you can produce a convincing-looking series of graphs to spin the numbers a certain way, making your vote count double.**

TECH: Once in the game, you can gift another player an item that grants them any one of the above minor abilities. Their choice, and you don’t get to know what they picked.***

* For the purposes of these roles, an "attempted action" includes 1) actively using a major or minor role ability, including items and 2) submitting a REBEL kill nomination. It excludes everything else.

** The "raw" vote tally that is provided each day does not reflect alterations made by this ability.

*** The recipient must lock in their choice by the end of the next cycle (if they do not specify, it will be random), but the ability has no expiration - it lasts until used. You can hypothetically possess and/or use multiple TECH items at once. Also, you can pass items in your possession to other players I guess, but let's be real, nobody ever does. Prove me wrong! I dare you.

No idea what the source for this is

Basically the star wars tv show andor, which is based around one of the characters in rogue one, which sounds like a really random unnecessary show but it's actually amazing. Would highly recommend people watch it. I watched it without even having watched rogue one

Alright.

But what's rogue one?

A star wars movie set immediately before a new hope. It's decent. Not amazing but it's decent.

I really like the ruleset for this, but I haven't seen Andor. If there are going to be spoilers (if I need to, I'll just skip the writeup), then I won't join, but I'd like to.

Go watch Andor! :P it's surprisingly good. /biased

The game will be like the signups. It's meant to reference things in the show, not rehash or explain what happened.

There may be small spoilers, and viewer discretion is thusly advised, but I won't be following the actual main plot of the show in my writeups.

I'm mainly just borrowing elements of the setting, which are established pretty early on. And possibly leaving some easter eggs here and there.

Also, Andor is a prequel to Rogue One, which is itself a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy. This makes it different from some shows, because the ending is deliberately not a secret, you know it from the outset (*if you've seen Rogue One anyways, but I think it would certainly be quite odd if they made the show only for people who hadn't). The fun is in seeing how you get to that ending. It's not a kind of story that relies much on surprises that could be spoiled. That's my opinion at least. But do whatever suits you. I don't think there's an Objectively Correct:tm: way to enjoy media.

She's played once before, in the Skybreaker game.

I do have some questions before the game begins.

1. What is a dead drop message?

2. Are the minor roles exclusive to the ISB or can the Rebels also randomly be assigned to any of those roles?

3. Does the double vote effect of the Analysis ability reflect on vote counts or is it hidden?

4. By 24 hour cycles, does that mean 12 hour day then 12 hour night? Or is it 24 hours each phase?
