Amanuensis he/him Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 (edited) Sorry I did that thing again where I didn't finish the write up before bed it's now done but I have to get ready for work 11 hours remain in the night to earn activity rupees and submit actions. Wayward Few Quote While Thistle settled the Zora child with Ouae and went to speak with Cindra, the rest of the group spread across the beach. Kieran and Heroshi worked the sand methodically, moving between the abandoned towels and overturned baskets, kicking through debris at the waterline. Most of it told the same story: people had left in a hurry, or hadn't left at all. A half-eaten meal still on a blanket. Sandals with no feet in them. Then Heroshi's eyes caught a splash of color in the sand, and he crouched, and brushed, and found the dark reddish-brown stains underneath — spread wide and already dried into the grain of it. He stood without saying anything and looked further down the beach. Kieran found the arm a few minutes later. It was half-buried under a capsized parasol. He covered it back over and marked the spot in his memory. The Fisherman's Hut was empty of anyone, dead or alive. The Happy Mask Salesman ducked through the low entrance with Ap behind him and took in the room: rods along the wall, nets hung in various states of repair, the smell of brine and old wood and something left on the stove too long. No body. No sign of a struggle. Whatever had happened here, the fisherman had either gone toward it or been taken before he could run. An open journal sat on the workbench. The handwriting was cramped and excited, the recent entries filling margins and running over lines in the way that happens when someone has had a very good day and not enough paper. The short version of it: he had found an old pirate ship submerged beneath the bay — he called it his greatest discovery — and had spent the better part of two weeks quietly looting it. The haul was considerable. He'd been specific about that. "Still got the habit of poking his nose where it doesn't belong, I see," the Happy Mask Salesman said to himself. Ap looked up from the journal. "You knew him?" "Reasonably well." He was already moving to the far wall, running his fingers along a row of mounted lure displays — hand-carved, lacquered, each one labeled in the same cramped script. He pressed the third from the left, which swung out on a hinge to reveal a key hook behind it. One key remained and he took it. Outside he found the Fisherman's vessel; big enough to ferry their entire crew, but not big enough to do so comfortably. In the hidden compartment beneath the dock boards — accessible from inside the hut via a trapdoor disguised as a drain grate — was open and empty, invalidating his need for the key. Whatever loot had been here was now gone. They came back to find the group gathered around Ouae and the small Zora girl, who had finished a bowl of something warm and was watching the water with the careful attention of someone who knew exactly what she was looking for. She introduced herself, eventually, as Lili. Seven years old, she said, though she sat very straight when she said it. She'd been at the beach for the local Festival — the one for people who couldn't make it to Clock Town or didn't want to be packed in with the tourists. The Indigo-Gos had been performing on the water when it happened. The ship had come up from below. Not from the horizon — from below the surface, water cascading off its hull in sheets, the whole thing rising until it cleared the bay and kept rising, lifting into the air above the water, its sails spreading in a wind that wasn't there. It was enormous and it glowed and it wasn't entirely solid, the way a reflection isn't entirely solid. People had started shouting and screaming before it finished rising. At that point, the moon had already begun glaring at them angrily. The pirates moved strangely, swooping through the air as the moonlight flickered through them. They were Gerudo, or had been. She knew what Gerudo looked like. These ones wore the same braided hair and sun-weathered faces, but pale, and cold, and they didn't slow down when things hit them. They took everyone they could catch. The Indigo-Gos first — she thought they'd specifically wanted the Indigo-Gos. Then everyone else. Some people had run and some hadn't. The pirates had gone for the Research Lab too, skimming out across the water toward it. She'd hidden in the Spider House because spiders seemed less scary. It seemed to keep her alive after the first few frights failed to kill her. They'd taken the prisoners to the fortress along the coast. She pointed. In the fading light it was visible as a dark mass against the water, angular, built into the rockface where the bay curved north. When she finished, she went back to watching the water. The boat was moored around the back of the hut, a broad-hulled fishing vessel built for bay water and loaded with enough deck space to carry a crowd if they didn't mind standing. Ap put the Goron Mask on, and Link the Goron and Gor Elam took positions alongside her, and between the three of them they pushed it off the shingle and into the shallows in one sustained shove that left clear furrows in the wet sand. By the time it was rigged and loaded, the sun was sitting on the horizon. The question went around the boat without anyone quite asking it directly. The fortress was close — the prisoners might still be inside, the Indigo-Gos among them. The Research Lab light was still pulsing, which meant something was still on, which might mean someone was still alive in there. Lili hadn't been to Zora Hall in two days and had no way to know if it was safe. And the Great Bay Temple sat somewhere beneath the water with Gyorg's Mask inside it. "I want to be honest with you," the Happy Mask Salesman said. He was standing at the prow with his canvas bag at his feet, looking at the fortress, then at the lab, then at the open water. "Everything you're considering is reasonable. The prisoners are real people. The scientists may be alive. Lili should be somewhere safe. All of that is true." He looked at them. "It is also true that I stood in a shop in Clock Town and asked you to hold all of it loosely. That every choice we make here that isn't the temple is a choice that gives Majora more time." He paused. "I'm not telling you what to decide. I'm reminding you of what we agreed before coming here." Lili had been watching the fortress. She pulled on Ouae's sleeve and pointed. The Ghost Ship rose from behind the fortress walls the same way she'd described — slow, vast, lit from within — and it didn't stop rising until it was above the clifftops. Then it moved, heading northwest along the coast in the direction of Zora Hall and the temple beyond. Its wake disturbed nothing. Its sails filled with nothing. It grew smaller against the darkening sky until it was just a pale smear of light over the water. The fortress sat dark and quiet behind it. No one spoke for a moment. The last sliver of sun went under the horizon. The bay went grey. Above them the first stars appeared in the small window of sky that the moon had not yet consumed. Edited March 14 by Amanuensis 1
Doc12 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 (edited) Okay, so that answers a big question. Second question, does the fact that elims let us exe Twinstorm without a fight mean something? Or are we in a world where there was one active elim other than Burnt who realized they couldn't stop the Twin exe from happening? The only other side trains last cycle was Burnt on Mist and Wonko on me, but Wonko also changed their vote to Twin end of cycle. But e!Wonko doesn't fit into the team I had been making. I was around at rollover waiting to see if there would be any attempt to switch from Twin, but I guess elims were too cucco to do anything. Doc12 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 A ghost ship. Clearly Hylia had thrown her hands up and abandoned Termina for good. Ghosts. It wasn't even like they were Poes - Poes were scary, but they could be hit and even captured. Poes didn't take prisoners, corrall them in a fortress and drive big Poe ships... The Happy Mask Salesman was still talking. Something about 'holding lives loosely' in the context of the loop. Thistle wanted to throw a rock at him. Amora would have tried to save those lives, because Amora was good and courageous and kind. Thistle was a frightened, shivering mess. Thistle looked to Ap, who was staring over the water at the ghost ship. "You... don't happen to have a Ghost mask, do you? Or a Mask that lets you hit ghosts?" They asked the Happy Mask Salesman, who simply smiled mysteriously and entirely unhelpfully. Thistle blew out a breath. Checked their bags. Sage. Lavender. Rosemary. They had no idea what worked on these Gerudo Ghosts. But Goddess, Thistle owed it to Amora's memory... if they died... they'd just wake up in bed again, and everyone would be alive... "Hold your lives loosely" They murmured, staring at the Happy Mask Salesman. Then, they went to Kieran. "I want to go help those people. Will you?" 2
Doc12 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Kieran just... looked at Thistle. Looked them up and down, at their hands, which were holding a hastily assembled bouquet of potentially-spirit-warding-incense, back to his own hand, gripping a well-used sword. To his credit, he tried to school his features into a semblance of sympathy, but Thistle had already deflated. "Yeah, yeah. I... I get it." Thistle stepped away. Goddess forbid Thistle actually tried to do something brave, for once in their useless life. Did they need a weapon? Even Cindra had picked up a knife. Thistle had... garden shears and a pruning knife, but they hadn't thought to bring those. Then they heard sniffling, again, the sound that had broken their heart in the Spider House. Lili was crying. Ouae was clearly trying his best to soothe the girl, but clearly had no idea what to do around children. Not that Thistle themself had much experience, but... "Lili?" They asked, kneeling to be at the girl's eye level. "How can I... how can I help you?" The child looked at her with big sad eyes, which was so familiar to how Zymni could look. Thistle whirled to check that Zymni was still visible - there, trying to pester Ap. Alright. Thistle offered the child a hug, Lili stepped into their arms, burying her face in their chest. Thistle's heart broke all over again. Suddenly, all the suppressed pain of the past (6? 7?) days threatened to overwhelm them, and they had to try so hard to not burst out crying too. Lili didn't need that. "You want to go home, don't you?" Thistle murmured, stroking her back. They felt the child nod. Well... perhaps this was something Thistle could actually do? "Cindra? Zymni? Would you... could you help me take Lili back to Zora Hall? Perhaps she'll be safe there while the fighters make a plan for the Temple or the Fortress?" @Wonko the Sane @Burnt Spaghetti (Is Cindra evil? I'm choosing to believe Cindra is actually still Thistle's friend ) 2
Amanuensis he/him Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 Oh right. Sorry Wonko. I keep forgetting that Zymni has been trying to get Ap to play the Song of Time. We can just say the Happy Mask Salesman intervened in the convo with finality. "She will play the song when we get Gyorg's Mask, and no sooner. Just make sure you're there when she does." Or something to that effect
Myst He/Him Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Kieran hadn’t want to discourage Thistle, but thistle simply had no experience fighting. And who knew if these ghosts, Gerudo, could even be fought with the equipment they had? After all, those ghosts certainly ripped someone’s arm off…. “Which means their able to interact with us, but we may not be able to hit them” Well, Thistle was right about one thing, there’s probably something that could harm them… maybe I should’ve been nicer there…. But right now, I’ll just find something. Kieran scoured the beach, looking for any weird things. Glass, rope, assorted bits of metal anything. ”The real question is how am I supposed to test all this. I doubt these ghosts are going to just stand there and let me throw things at them” 1
Through the living Wahr He/Him Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Why is there a Ghost Ship now? Whats actually going on here? Even though he could remember the last few Days, Wahi felt even more confused then when he woke up without any memories. It seemed like every Day there was a new surprise that no one saw comming and no one knew what do do about. "We need that Mask, I do not want to imagine what will happen if we let that Skull Kid have a third. We need to get that Mask as Fast as possible. We left Clocktown earlie so we have an advantage. I know this feels wrong but if Time gets Rewound nothing we do here actually matters." 1

I'm choosing to believe Cindra is actually still Thistle's friend ) Of course shes still thistles friend, thistles important! ---- Cindra was mentally running numbers as she looked at the survivors. There were still some fighters, they were far from helpless. The more they looped, the more experience each person gained. There were some who had never fought before who now wore hardened expressions and had armed themselves appropriately. But they were missing some of their most skilled. Her eyes moved to the ghost ship and narrowed. This added complexity to the matter. Her hands brushed the stone mask and she felt a flash of annoyance. The stone mask let her move undetected through most spaces and by most people, but gerudo pirates were one of the few things it didnt seem to work on. That and bosses. She didnt like relying on those around her, but she found herself constantly relying on everyone to keep her safe. She would never have been able to reach those crucial masks otherwise. Her thoughts were interrupted as Thistle approached with the Zora child. Ah Thistle. Thistle was such a precious person, cindra found her expression softening into a small smile. It was too bad that Thistle had been caught up in all this. Cindra could see how much this was affecting Thistle, and she couldn't help but wonder if Thistle wouldve been better off if she had not gotten included in the loops and had died oblivious. She had been grateful for her friendship though, and Thistles supplies had been imperative to their journeys. "Hello little one!" Cindra smiled warmly at the child "yes, lets get you home okay? You must have been so scared, but you've been so incredibly brave! Im so proud of you for keeping yourself safe in there, I don't think I'd have lasted nearly half as long as you! I would love for you to show us around the zora hall." Her eyes glanced back to where the fighters were planning and discussion, her expression flickering with something harder before softening again when she looked back at Thistle and Lili. 2
|TJ| he/him Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Sorry not much to say from me this cycle except - On the lowest of keys, blocking Burnt should be an option that should be stated here because the likelihood that just Burnt submits the kill is quite high. I hope that by mentioning it here, I've created some IKYK but either way - 1. we block someone else and get to know they are elim + need only 1 elim dead in this Loop 2. we block Burnt which would still mean we need only 1 elim dead in this Loop 3. elims skip a kill which means we have already won the cycle I feel like when you compare case (1) and case(2), elims have a lot more to lose from using case (1), which is why I feel it's highly likely that Burnt submits the kill. Maybe.
