yeah, i know. I'm in the place with the white iron where we pick chunks and they turn into our scythes? I haven't forged mine yet.

Avi pulled her cloak around herself to protect against the slight chill in the air. She passed other Reapers and Acolytes, many of them smiling or laughing. A peaceful place. Not often synonymous with "the servants of Death" in most people's minds, but Avi didn't care.

She walked towards the I'ki housing, for the lowest rank of the Reapers. The tiered building was beautifully designed and quite large, though not the largest in the almost-city of the Reapers' Headquarters.

The Reaper standing guard seemed to recognize her, though she'd never seen the Dryad woman before. Her Reaper's cuirass was a floral pink color, which contrasted to an intricate green cloak that wrapped around her shoulders.

"Ast'avi", she said kindly. "Your room, now filled with your possessions, is up on the top floor. You'll find your name on the doorway." Avi nodded her thanks and stepped into the entryway of the building, which was filled with I'ki, many of them young, like her.

These are your colleagues now, she thought to herself. Whether you like it or not.

Avi found an etherium-powered lift and let it take her to the top floor. After a minute of walking around the circular hallway, she found a room marked with her name.

Stepping inside, she found a small, cozy room filled with her possessions. A few trinkets and relics decorated a sturdy desk, and a bookshelf along one wall held her personal library. The room wasn't too large, but it certainly wasn't cramped, either. There were plenty of comforts.

I could get used to this...

Kaeni had - as per request - been given a room neighboring Mercury's. Hers was pretty sparse save for her bow and quiver of arrows on the wall, but honestly she liked it that way. The open space really helped her relax... just sort of burn out. Fire wasn't supposed to be contained and confined, so neither was she. Just space and air was all she needed.

I'm... She looked around in something of a daze. I'm a Reaper now?

That had been the goal.

Am I... Kaeni looked up, as if to the gods. Did I do well enough?

No answer. Not that she was expecting any.

Her fight had only just begun, it seemed.

Il'anque wandered up to the housing and waved to the dryad quartermaster. She walked over to her new room. It was cozy, with everything that she owned arranged exactly the way she wanted. She didn't know if that was because the quartermaster was a mind mage or not, but this would be a nice room.

Although...

Il'anque looked at one of her potted plants. This room could use a bit more decor, couldn't it?

Il'anque reached out for her magic in the same manner as always, commanding the plant to grow. Il'anque watched the vine's progress, satisfied.

Something deep within Il'anque stirred. And with it came fragments of memories.

Il'anque screamed, and the spell went awry. No! No! Il'aque frantically pulled on the lifeforce of the vines, causing them to retract. She collapsed on her bed, breathing heavily.

What... what was that?

Avi took a quick bath, careful to keep her tender wounds unhurt. She changed into a fresh outfit and pulled her Reaper's cuirass over that. She wrapped her cloak around her shoulders and strapped her dagger to her belt.

She felt like herself again. Despite the faint aches and pains still apparent across her body...

She took a lift down to the main floor and stepped out of the building. She found Kaeni standing outside the doorway, waiting. Avi walked over.

"Like your new quarters?" she asked.

Kaeni smiled. "Yeah. Not much, but I like it empty. What about yours?"

"It's great. Certainly better than the Acolyte dormitories." Avi gazed back up at the building. "The entire building is beautiful, actually."

Avi glanced at the black Scythe mark on the back of her hand. "What other things can we do now that we're full Reapers?"

"I heard from those veteran guys that we can go pretty much anywhere in the whole Collective. Lots of magical portals and things that are usually closed to the public are open to Reapers. Forbidden libraries and closed-off ruins and things too."

Il'anque continued breathing heavily. "I'm not fine. Something- something is wrong with me, and... I'm not sure if I can-" Il'anque's voice broke again.
