Channelknight Fadran Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Kaeni un-summoned and summoned it a few times, then let it vanish completely. "So... now we're supposed to guide souls to the Gates, huh?"
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 "I suppose so. I do not look forward to making that climb again." Il'anque sighed. "I guess we should go out and check to see what's going on."
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Kaeni grunted as she pushed herself over on her good arm, hopping off the bed. At least her legs could hold her up again, even if her left arm couldn't seem to even move around on its own yet. "Coming, Avi?" @The Bookwyrm

She clenched her right hand in a fist, seeing the black mark appear. She sense an object in her mind...and with a slight push... Her midnight black Scythe fell into her hand. It was long; taller than she was. The main leingth of it seemed simple at first, but was carved with an intricate design on closer glance. The head of the Scythe took a curious shape. The main blade was a smooth crescent, with the edge facing outwards, and with a sharp point on both ends. Below that, there was another crescent, smaller, and then a starburst shape where the shaft of the Scythe met the head. It...almost looked like the larger crescent was the shape of Ter'amavi, and the smaller one the shape of Lev'amavi...her homeworld. She nearly teared up, but then shoved down the emotion. It wouldn't do to break down in front of these people, even a little. And even if they were her friends. She smiled contentedly, then dismissed the Scythe. It already felt like a friend. A dangerous friend, to be sure, one that begged you not to use it. But even so. It's weight at the back of her mind was a comfort. She followed Kaeni out of the infirmary, hoping she wasn't going to get yelled at by some medic. Quote Can you give me a summary of what you had in mind for our first few assignments? What's life like for a full Reaper?
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Quote We'll be sticking together for them. Don't worry about it yet. Outside was the graveyard of fallen Reapers - and a congregation of other Reapers standing around seven new gravestones that had been added this morning. A moment of silence for the fallen. Kaeni stopped in her tracks. "Oh."

A moment of silence for the fallen. Kaeni stopped in her tracks. "Oh." Avi paled slightly. It's easy to forget, I suppose...when you're a survivor... I hope Death treated them well. And I hope they'll be happy in the worlds to come.
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Kaeni stepped over to look across the names. Eni Valis... Jaren K.... Umbra? Oh... Kaeni dropped her head. They hadn't talked much, but she'd always seemed nice. And Pelteb, too. I never liked Gavin much, but...
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Quote What does the Reaper's headquarters look like, and where is it located? And at some point can we get a planetary map of the physical realm of Figeri?
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Quote I imagine it like a japanese-ish monastery, with lots of traditional buildings around the campus. As for a map... Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler no After a few minutes, Kaeni looked up at a pair of Reapers she didn't recognize. "Who're you?" The taller one - a lanky male - glanced at her. "I'm Folkan. Me and Polly here were the ones guiding your companions' souls to the Gates in case they perished on the mountainside." Polly crossed her arms, not saying anything.
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Il'anque looked at the two reapers. "Well, what do you do now that we made it up?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 "We're also going to be the ones in charge of your first assignment." Folkan thumbed at himself. "Just a standard mass escort. Nothing you all won't be doing a million times. It's our job to make sure you don't get yourselves or anyone else's souls consumed."
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 "Great! It'll be like our initiation, only more high-stakes! Amazing!"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 "You'll have us here," Polly said.
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 "How many souls will we escort?"
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Quote Wait, where are Death's Gates? Do They have multiple locations for Judgement? How do the Reapers travel across the system? Do they have access to some kind of "hyperspace" dimension that lets them walk from planet to planet, supplied by Death? What planet are we on? Are we even in the physical plane? Sorry for all the questions. I should probably just RPAFO... Avi listened to the conversation with half an ear. Now that she was well enough to walk around without too much pain or exhaustion, she kind of wanted to find her new quarters in the dormitories for full Reapers. Her few possessions would have been transferred, theoretically. Then again, she should probably stick around for at least a little bit and find out more about her first assignment. This is your life now. Until you're strong enough, and respected enough, to go and complete your own task, Death is your master. They always will be. Avi wasn't sad about this fact. But she did have her own goal. And she needed to work before that point.

Souls pass through to meet Death and be judged for their afterlife. As for how interdimensional travel works... ...uhhhhh........ .............. m a g i c 4 hours ago, NerdyAarakocra said: "How many souls will we escort?" "Several thousand. Tens, probably. There's really no point in stopping to count."
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 "When does the escort start?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 "The stream of the dead is a constant, so for each location we have hundreds of Reapers leading daily week-long escorts to the Gates. Polly and I volunteered to lead you greenies, so we're cleared to start whenever you guys finish resting up."
NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 "I think that I'm ready." I'm not, but I could use a good distraction. Il'anque looked at the others."Are you guys ready to go?" @The Wandering Wizard @PyroPhile @The Bookwyrm @anyone else who I forgor
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Quote Most everyone else is still unconscious... I had assumed it'd be a few days until we were back in peak condition.
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 Quote Wiz hasn't been on in a bit, Frustry's busy (I think), and both Pyro and Tani are only on incrementally. I've made the executive decision to carry along the plot without getting everyone to respond and just forcing the slow folks to catch up like the wonderful person I am. Though yeah, it'd probably be best to give them all a couple days to recover. Preferably we just get to RP our little guys becoming friends.
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Quote Alrighty. One more question... What is the environment around the Reaper's HQ like? Mountains? Forest? Plains? Something else? I just want to be able to describe it accurately. "Let's have a few days to rest and reorient ourselves," Avi suggested. "There's a constant influx of souls; it's not like we'll be out of a job."
Channelknight Fadran Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Quote They're in the valley of several mountains, where it's currently quite cold and snowy. The monastery is built alongside the foothills and spans for miles in every direction to accomodate new trainees and veterans alike. Some notable features of the place include hiking trails for recreation, reservable plains for games and training, and hot springs to soak and r e l a x.
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Quote I like the sound of this. "I'm going to go find my new quarters," Avi said. "As from there...I guess I can meet you in the mess hall for dinner?"
