The presmise: we are all world leaders of our own respective realms, and seek to grow in power and influence throughout the world. We can invade other countries, research new technologies, form treaties, etc.... only there's a twist:

The outcomes of all our actions are determined by AI.

(TL;DR I watched this video and wanted to do the exact same thing).

For the folks who are interested, create yourself a nation! Elaborate on its culture/history/etc as much as you like, though please give a decent one-paragraph-ish summary so I don't have to feed your extensive histories to the AI. And if you can't think of anything to spice up your country enough, feel free to plug it into the AI early so that it can develop your history and culture for you. Once we've got a decent roster I'll create a map of the world, and then we can start kicking things off.

How it'll go:

  • While creating your country, determine its whereabouts and primary resource. You can develop more resources as you go along, but we'll all start with one.
  • First we'll figure out a turn order that each of us take our actions in. I don't think I should have to explain this.
  • On your turn, you can take an action, which can effectively be anything within reason. It could be anything from "I invade Fadranosia" to "I attempt to marry into the Fadranian Royal Family to secure a peace treaty" to "I research the art of witchcraft under the Fadrinians' noses." Obviously don't do anything riduculous like "I attempt become God and destroy everyone," or anything else that would trick the AI into allowing you to win the entire game in just a single turn. Use your brain.
  • We'll try to keep a timeline of all the stuff that happens and advance through the ages of society as it goes. If we're lucky, the game will keep going up until the invention of new technologies; perhaps even to creating colonies on other planets. It's also possible that the AI would be incapable of maintaining a steady narrative for that, in which case we'd probably restart every once in awhile with new kingdoms and nations to keep things interesting.
  • I'll be the one inputting what you say into the AI, and keep it running until it comes to a decent conclusion to your input. I'll make sure that it doesn't go very off-track, determine where it stops, and present an additional edited version of the text into the game to keep things concise. In the event that the story half-concludes, half-opens (that is to say, sets up another story point as it resolves the first), I'll give you the option to "push" the AI and keep going. This could potentially get you an extra gain in just one turn... or it could throw your win into the gutter and destroy your entire army. Gambling! Lots of fun.
  • The AI isn't super great at keeping track of things, so it'll be up to us to maintain overall continuity. For example. if your army gets completely wiped whilst invading Fadranosia, you won't be allowed to input any more invasions for a few turns, and we might decide to veto anything the AI says about your army outnumbering someone else's or anything like that.
  • In the meantime, please elaborate on the things that happen! It wouldn't be a true half-RP without crazy, over-the-top narrative descriptions of the Battle of Fadranosia. Perhaps the AI generates a romance between two monarchs: do feel free to write it out! Perhaps it creates a brand-new situation for all of us: react to it in proper form!
  • Overall, though, it'll just go like absolute chaos.

Here is the map:

Spoiler

632288b974b0d_Theworld.thumb.png.c641d1c14e1d251ff4a7bb3b596498c7.png

The turn order will be as follows:

  • Bookwyrm, as the Republic of Astrym
  • Nameless, as the Kingdom of Nam-Ed
  • Matrim, as the Kingdom of Dalrya
  • Unknown Novel, as Eshael Navar
  • S.S., as Lynara
  • W.W., as the Wrizrecan Empire
  • Sequence, as Serenitas
  • Yours truly, as the Gahestian Empire
  • Enter, as Not-Luxembourg
  • Corvus, as the Commune of Vandora
  • Aarakocra, as Realmingsburg
  • (New!) Shining Silhouette, as Psmithania
  • (New!) Tani, as Siel

After each round we will reconvene to chronicle our happenings and make sure we're all on the same page as to the continent's overall situation.

I like turn based RPs more, in general, so I’ll give this a go. I’ll make my country later though.

My kingdom is known as The Republic of Astrym, renowned for it's knowledge and technological prowess. Stands at the forefront of scientific, technological, and social sciences in the world, though is somewhat lacking in other areas for this reason. It's people are very interested in astronomy in particular, and this grants them the best calendars in the world. While they have incredibly skilled scientists, philosophers, politicians, and historians of all types, astronomy is kind of their symbol. Their colors are blue, silver, and gold, and their flag is a scattered starscape of silver and gold stars in certain patterns against a blue background.

They are located on a large island, maybe a little smaller than Australia. Britain sized, maybe? You can place it where you would like on the map.

Because I noticed that Shallan Stormblessed below put magic in, I would also like my kingdom to have magic. Probably once again related to astronomy, but I don't have details yet.

Their religion believes that while everyone is entitled to their own choices, all things outside of human control occur because of the will of the universe, though whether or not there is an actual being behind that will varies from sect to sect.

They are generally a peaceful country, and would like to avoid going to war, but they have the capacity to develop some scary weapons if pressured.

It's primary resource is it's collection of scientists and knowledge. So for simplicity I'm just going to say scientific knowledge.

It was a monarchy for a long time, until one king realized that it was probably best if they set up a new form of government. A group of people called Judges decide which people get to run for election to make sure that the government constantly stays balanced. New Judges are chosen by the previous set of Judges, but besides choosing officials, they have no political power. The system has worked well so far, and there are precautions and balances to make sure that the Judges don't abuse their power.

(I'll probably add more later. A lot of this is somewhat loosely based on worldbuilding for my own fantasy kingdom that's been brewing in my head since I was about ten.)

We should probably make a map and add some NPC countries as well at some point.

My kingdom is the Kingdom of Nam-Ed, ruled by Sell, an absolute monarch. Originally founded on a small island just off the coast of whatever continent we end up using, the kingdom significant history began when their first monarch led them across to ocean to the nearby landmass. With their fanatical loyalty to their king, the Namians quickly conquered a massive kingdom, which has existed for centuries. Since those violent beginnings, Nam-Ed's population has expanded beyond that of any other nation, with a mistrust of outsiders almost as strong as their pride in their own kingdom. Their flag is red, with a golden boat emblazoned on the center, surrounded by a silver flame.

Their biggest resource is their massive population, which allows them to field a massive army and gives them access to a ludicrously large workforce.

While their military tactics are reasonably advanced, Nam-Ed is hardly a society that encourages cutting-edge scientific advancements, although they are quite adept at stealing other nation's tactics and technology.

Introducing the kingdom of Dalrya, a nation located near the middle of the continent we'll be playing on (note I said near-- think how Switzerland or Hungary is to Europe, as opposed to Czechia or Slovakia. Perhaps bordering the country that borders the ocean). It is, geographically area-wise, one of the smaller nations, but has a higher population per square mile ratio than average. Ordinarily shaped, like an irregular oval, nothing crazy :P And, notably, has a small mountain range within its borders.

It is ruled by a King, officially, but he is but a puppet for a council of six who have gained power in various ways. Mostly corrupt ones. This council constantly threatens the King to keep him in check and has complete control over the allegiance of the army, as well as over the resources and other affairs of the kingdom. Few outside of the Six know of its existence, only the leading generals and clerks outside of the King himself. This includes all other Dalrians and every inhabitant of every other kingdom. The Six love their secrets.

Dalrya's primary resource is iron, mined from the aforementioned mountain range, but from the mines also come coal, copper, and numerous other useful metals. These the Dalrians sell and trade with the other nations, publicly keeping some for themselves to fuel their own development. Their flag is a simple green rectangle with two mountain peaks, unassuming and innocent.

From the outside looking in, the nation of Dalrya is a small country ran by a single simpleminded King with no ambition, content to sell away one of the best mineral deposits in the world while their neighbors amass power for the inevitably bloody future.

Such is not the case.

For while the Six do sell away some of the metals they mine, the majority of it-- far more than almost anyone could possibly imagine-- is taken to factories, or warehouses, or underground storage bunkers and facilities, to be molded with, machined on, used to develop weaponry, et cetera. The Six are perhaps the most keen for battle, and the most prepared for it, but they'd never strike first.

They'll wait for someone else to make the mistake of striking at them.

They love their secrets.

Quote

Will be interesting to see how this works since, from the perspective of everyone else, Dalrya is that simple mining country that isn't really a threat. I'm trusting everyone to not let my hidden reputation scare you off but you do just have to pretend that you don't know until I 'officially' reveal those cards :P.

I think everyone can do that, right? :P

Maybe adding more later but that's good for now.

I'm trying to get the AI to throw together some world lore.

*Several minutes pass*

...I like this:

Quote

The name of this mythical world is, for want of a better word, "the World." It's not really so much an official name as it is the nickname that has stuck to the entire place. When asked about its origin, most people will say something like, "That's what we call the place because... well, I guess you could say..." and eventually give up before coming up with anything more concrete.

It is permeated by many magical realms, each one different in some way from the others. This applies equally to the "human" worlds as well. The number of human nations in general is relatively small compared to other places, but each one has its own distinct culture. Of course, there are also countries and regions where humans have never set foot, no matter how far their borders extend.

So then, what is it called? What does this so-called "World" actually look like? In reality, there is only one world. But there are multiple perspectives on it, so there are several ways to think about it. For example, if you're talking with a group of adventurers, they might tell you that they plan to go "to the World," while if you were speaking with an artist, he or she would probably use the term "Worldscape." With all these names floating around, it can be easy to get confused, even when you know exactly which one you mean.

As far as the average person goes, however, the common name for the World is "the World." That's why if you ask someone to describe "the World," you'll generally just hear, "The World," and nothing else.

Then I got it to give us some NPCs...

Quote

There are ten kingdoms in this world: Kingdom of Alefgard, Kingdom of Silvanesti, Kingdom of Othir, Kingdom of Estwilde, Kingdom of Gwynneth, Kingdom of Liscor, Kingdom of Aradis, Kingdom of Zek, Kingdom of Dalaam, Kingdom of Farzia, and Kingdom of Lunitari. Each one is ruled over by a monarch, although not every country is unified under one ruler at any given time. Some kingdoms are ruled by a council of rulers, while others are run by a single king. As the world continues to grow larger and more complicated, the situation becomes increasingly varied.

...And then I found out that my free trial was almost out of actions!

But the subscription is pretty cheap, and I've been meaning to set up a paypal anyways, so all shall be well!

Country:

Spoiler

Eshael Navar, Sapphire Isle, home of the kraken killers. Think Great Britain during colonization time periods, but more extreme and with more landmass. It's ruled by two councils, the High Council and the Low Council, or the Concilum Major and the Concilum Minor. Anyone rich enough can buy a seat on the Low Council, but the High Council is elected by the Low Council from one not of their number. Historically, it's whoever is popular and rich enough to bribe and convince the unbribleable. In recent history, it's controlled by pirate lords who threaten and bribe their way up as well. There are only five seats on the High Council, and they have complete veto power, but zero lawmaking power, which resides with the Low Council. During times of declared war, one of the High Council is elected by the High Council to be Maesar, who is given absolute power until the High Council (the Maesar is no longer considered a member) votes to take the Maesari from the Maesar. The majority of Eshael Navar's citizens are fishers or do something else related to sailing. Agriculture is almost nonexistent due to low usable farmland and them relying on the sea. They have not used magic in the past since there is little magic on the Sapphire Sea, and they haven't properly harvested the resources of the land yet.

TLDR: Eshael Navar is ruled by two councils, the High Council and the Low Council, except in times of war, when they are ruled by a Maesar. Their resource is their huge navy and control of the ocean economy.

The flag is a dead kraken with a cutlass in its head, with a red circle behind it and a blue field.

My kingdom is called Lynara, and it is ruled by a different random citizen each day. So nothing much ever gets done. There are random pockets of magic scattered throughout that can be channeled... ish. They're very erratic and walking through one without knowing it's there can be disorienting. Its flag has a white symbol of a book surrounded by hands reaching for it on a purple background. It is located in a very very very large volcano which is located in one of the aforementioned pockets of magic(yes there are pockets of magic inside pockets of magic. don't question it). Magic can be contained in little... containers, which are the resources used in Lynara.

My kingdom is the Wrizrecan Empire. Considered by most to be barbarians, they live in the extreme north, used to temperatures that make trees rupture. Think similar to an earlier era Russia. They are ruled by Emperors and the next king will be the next of the royal bloodline. They have a large servant/pesant class which all the men are trained as archers, who are treated mostly fairly if they can use a bow. They have some northern mystics who can tap into their powers, only while in the northern mountains. The southern parts of the kingdom are dedicated to farming and are heavily protected, for the fact that they are the only places food can be grown.

... If there's any free "slots" for players, then YES.

Spoiler

My country is called Serenitas, and is on the smaller side, only occupying a Florida sized area on an equatorial coast of the World's largest continent. It is governed by council of rulers, consisting of about twenty or so people, with one supreme Monarch figure, who is selected by the standard population. It is known for its cloth exports, as a large portion of its geography are open grassy plains, perfect for raising sheep and other livestock. Most of the population are immigrants from other countries, seeking to escape the complications of magic and leave a peaceful life. It has one main capital city with about 200,000 residents, and the rest of the land is dotted with small ranching and farming towns. The capital city houses the small military, the seaports, and all of the other essential centers of industry.

Spoiler

If this is too long I can shorten it :)

Am subscrebdawecd! We now have unlimited AI actions :D

There are a few people who haven't joined yet, but we also have enough kingdoms that we can probably get started as soon as I get a map done. For the time being, I'll allow the AI to build me a culture to throw into the mix:

Quote

The Gehestian Empire is an oligarchy ruled by a council of nine magical families. The Council of Nine, the highest governing body in the empire, was once a group of four families, but it has expanded to include two more. The current members are:
Kellach-Sern and his family, the Kellach.
Andrasch and her family, the Andrashsians.
Mavors and his family, the Mavors.
Tyrion and his family, the Tyrions.
Cordyline and her family, the Cordylines.
Farn and his family, the Farns.
Drakonid and his family, the Drakons.
Lanorhyn and her family, the Lanorshins.
Arshav and his family, the Arshavs.

I'll get started on the map ASAP!

"The council of nine had four, then added two more" *lists nine names*
