Mat he/him Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 (edited) Quote That's... not better Should be fun. I watched the DougDoug video last night so I have an idea of how off-the-rails some things can get. Do you think I should add how magic interferes in my nation, or is it fine as it is since anything I add regarding that should be easily inferable anyway? Edited September 14, 2022 by Matrim's Dice
Channelknight Fadran Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 Quote *Shrugs* I don't really care

Channelknight Fadran Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 Quote So I was going to spend a bunch of time making a super detailed map with my epic skills and quill but then I thought to myself "No" Spoiler "MS Paint is better" 1

The Bookwyrm he/him Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Quote I am happy with this map.
Going_North_cal Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Quote Is it too late to join? I'd like to create a single island nation, just south of the Cucan Empire, and West of Nam-Ed. Name? The Commune Of Vandora. Culture? Anarchist and heavily religious. Basic facts? Vandorans live in clans in the Commune and cultivate their own crops whilst also hunting the wild game all over the lush island. There is a beach of black sand along the south coast, which the Vandorans see as holy. Hope that's enough.
Channelknight Fadran Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 Quote Not too late at all! I'll add Vandora when we turn the power back on and I have access to MS paint again
Channelknight Fadran Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 (edited) Quote This is what I've inputted so far: Spoiler The name of this mythical world is, for want of a better word, "the World." It's not really so much an official name as it is the nickname that has stuck to the entire place. When asked about its origin, most people will say something like, "That's what we call the place because... well, I guess you could say..." and eventually give up before coming up with anything more concrete. It is permeated by many magical realms, each one different in some way from the others. This applies equally to the "human" worlds as well. The number of human nations in general is relatively small compared to other places, but each one has its own distinct culture. Of course, there are also countries and regions where humans have never set foot, no matter how far their borders extend. So then, what is it called? What does this so-called "World" actually look like? In reality, there is only one world. But there are multiple perspectives on it, so there are several ways to think about it. For example, if you're talking with a group of adventurers, they might tell you that they plan to go "to the World," while if you were speaking with an artist, he or she would probably use the term "Worldscape." With all these names floating around, it can be easy to get confused, even when you know exactly which one you mean. As far as the average person goes, however, the common name for the World is "the World." That's why if you ask someone to describe "the World," you'll generally just hear, "The World," and nothing else. *** In The World, there are many lands, each with its own culture and strengths. To the southwest is an archipelago known as the Sapphire Isles, whose kingdom is called Eshael Navar. It is ruled by two councils: the High Council and the Low Council. They are strongest in their naval power and control of ocean trade. To the north of the Isles is another island realm, called the Commune of Vandora. It is a heavily religious realm, and without any real government. The people all live in smaller clans who survive on their own. East of the Commune is the coastal Kingdom of Nam-Ed. They came from a small island, but have since migrated into the mainland and established a powerful monarchy. It has the largest population of any kingdom who take pride in their nation, making them very wary of outsiders. Farther north is the Republic of Astrym. It's a peaceful island-state, renowned for its incredible scientific knowledge and advancements. It was once a monarchy, but has since been reforged into a state where a group of Judges vote and appoint new officials to maintain political balance. West of Astrym is the island of Realmingsburg, led by a team of scientists known as Inventors. The committee of Inventors makes up a triumvirate that leads the nation into its major power of technological automation and resource allocation. East of Realmingsburg, Astrym, and North of Nam-Ed is Serenitas: a refuge for immigrants seeking asylum from the chaos of the other nations. This small kingdom is ruled by a monarch and a council of smaller rulers, who control the military, seaports, and industry. The farthest northeast nation is the Wrizrecan Empire, a land of bitter cold and barbaric warriors. The people, hardened by the harsh environment, are tougher than any other nations'. They heavily defend their southern farms, which are the only places where food can be grown. In the center of the continent is the Kingdom of Dalyra, which is ruled by a puppet king controlled by a Council of Six. This nation's primary resource is the iron of their mountains, which they manufacture into weaponry to fuel the council's dastardly plans. Not far southwest of Dalyra is the Gahestian Empire, which is monarchy consisting of nine noble houses all vying for power. Its strength comes from the noble-blooded's affinity towards tapping into other realms and learning the many ways of magic. South of the Gahestian Empire is Lynara: a realm of absolute chaos. Pockets of chaos are formed where magical realms permeate the physical plane, and the country is ruled by a different randomly-selected citizen every day. Its only strength comes from the contained magic that they sell to its neighboring lands. There is also an incredibly small country in between them all known as Not-Luxembourg, which serves no strategic purpose whatsoever. Our story begins in the Holy Year of 0001, marked by a grand festival held in the gods' favor. It was on this day that all the nations of the world each decided on one grand purpose: to become the ruler of all the world! *** And here is the map: Spoiler The turn order will be as follows: Bookwyrm, as the Republic of Astrym Nameless, as the Kingdom of Nam-Ed Matrim, as the Kingdom of Dalrya Unknown Novel, as Eshael Navar S.S., as Lynara W.W., as the Wrizrecan Empire Sequence, as Serenitas Yours truly, as the Gahestian Empire Enter, as Not-Luxembourg Corvus, as the Commune of Vandora Aarakocra, as Realmingsburg After each round we will reconvene to chronicle our happenings and make sure we're all on the same page as to the continent's overall situation. Channelknight Fadran Posted September 14, 2022 Author Posted September 14, 2022 Quote Get it prepared, but not yet. I need to make sure everybody's still on board, so we'll have a few hours as a grace period. Post it later this evening if nobody's objected.
Enter a username Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Quote I should probably worldbuild Not-Luxembourg a bit. Due to its small size, it has a very small population (low 10,000’s) and pathetic army (a few hundred.) Despite this, it’s extremely aggressive. It tries to threaten other countries using superweapons it doesn’t actually have, and tries to develop these superweapons with researchers who aren’t actually making any progress. TL;DR, a child with a stick in a tank battle.

NerdyAarakocra They/Them Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 (edited) 14 hours ago, Channelknight Fadran said: That's a-okay Quote Alright! Here goes nothing: Realmingsberg Pop: 25,000 or so Primary export: brass Realmingsberg is a decently large island with zinc and copper (see: brass) deposits and geothermal activity aplenty. While not being the leading player in magic, it is one of the world leaders in technology, equal to the great center of learning that is Astrym. The Realmingsbergish pantheon is composed of Kalis, god of fire, innovation, and change, Yelam, Goddess of growth, nature, and ideas, and the genderless Gren, deity of creation and destruction. The Realmingsbergish government is led by the Inventor Triumvirate. Each member (members are called Inventors) has a nine year term. Every three years, one of the Inventors will have their term end, and a replacement will be voted in. Each Inventor represents a committee in the government. The committees each represent one of the members of the Realmingsbergish pantheon. Together, each committee does their part to make the bureaucratic wheels spin. Literally spin - the Gearhall, the center of Realmingsbergish civilization, is an elaborate kinetic sculpture powered by heat from the island's central volcano. There's no way for that to go wrong, right? For an average citizen of Realmingsberg, all sorts of gizmos make life easier. Mining is mostly automated, but still requires some overseeing. Farming requires some manual labor, but not as much as it does for the citizens of, say, Adoral-can. If you want to get away from it all, you can go to a shrine of Yelam, which will always be surrounded by green space. Manual laborers are quickly losing jobs as things become increasingly automated, and we all know what that means - UNIONS! Skyships are a new innovation, and no one really trusts them. Some wealthy shipping magnates use them, but they have yet to become widespread. In addition, skyships require a large amount of infrastructure, which is getting built only reluctantly. The Realmingsbergish economy is based around brass and technology exports. While its farming is effective enough to avoid famine, it isn't really enough to ship excess food - for now. Something might change. It is a country built around ideals of innovation, after all. Realmingsberg is on friendly terms with its technological equal, Astrym. It eyes its main economic competition, Dalrya, with wariness, but considers it as a potential ally. It all depends on how things go down. The Realmingsberg flag depicts a red gear with green vines growing over it on a background of black and white. Wow. That was quite a bit, wasn't it? Let me know if I missed anything important.
