  1. Rhythm of Reviews continues with talking about Adolin and Shallan's arc in Rhythm of War! The sweet animated wallpaper is from Cosmere.es, the Spanish fan site. It's awesome! They have one for Words of Radiance as well! https://cosmere.es/descargas/ The sweet thumbnail image is Yasen Stoilov's Bulgarian Rhythm of War cover. Cosmere.es did an interview of him, translated to English on our site here: https://www.17thshard.com/news/features/artist-spotlight-yasen-stoilov-bulgarian-cover-artist-for-rhythm-of-war-r603/ If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/bMAUS5c Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 2. At the yt spoiler livestream (which I saw only yesterday, because in my timezone it was live in the middle of the night ) someone asked about why Seons can travel out of Sel even though they're Splinters and Brandon said it was a great question and knowing the answer would help Thaidakar (whom I 100% assume to be Kelsier) a lot. My hypothesis is that Seons have a part of the land they're Connected to inside themselves (the Aon), so they can travel because instead of being anchored to something huge and immobile, they're anchored to something they carry inside. I'm not sure how Vasher being able to worldhop factors into that, maybe the Divine Breath also works as something he can be anchored to? …Anyway now I can't get rid of a mental image of Kelsier traveling, Dracula-style, in a coffin filled with metal shavings from his homeland.
  3. I searched for discussion of this but couldn’t find a specific thread. Was Rock executed? In chapter 114, we find out that: “Skar and Drehy had relayed the news after returning to the Shattered Plains. It seemed Kaladin wouldn’t be seeing Rock again.” Maybe I’m being pessimistic, and Brandon wouldn’t kill Rock offscreen like that, but I dunno, sounds pretty definite. What is the consensus here?
  4. So I don't have everything organized enough to make a full post but my major takeaways from the stream (spoilers for RoW & other cosmere books below): 1. Nightblood is not a Dawnshard. 2. The man with the red Aviar that was killed was a Feruchemist keeping watch over Dalinar. 3. Broken Radiant oaths before the Recreance didn't result in deadeyes. 4. Renarin has a tentative crush on Rlain (thanks to Adam for confirming!) 5. Historically there's never been more than three Bondsmiths at one time. He didn't say anything about the Bondsmiths being specifically bonded to the Stormfather, Nightwatcher, and Sibling, so there could've been other sentient spren that bonded (Ba-Ado-Mishram...maybe?). 6. There's something significant about how Tien's wooden horse and Wit's flute got to the shop at the end of RoW, but that isn't necessarily connected to the owner of said shop. and... (MB spoilers) I'm so happy that he did this! This was my first Sanderson livestream & it was fun to see everyone's questions.
  5. So it’s been about a year I think since I’ve last posted on here but I’m back with some more custom action figures. Today I have three based on Mistborn and one new stormlight custom. Starting off with Mistborn we have Sazed. He is almost completely repainted from the base figure, the bands and earrings are sculpted on. I would like to find him some glasses but haven’t found any that work yet. I’m pretty happy with how he turned out. My one gripe is that I wish I had chosen brighter colors for his robe. Next we have Marsh (or just a steal inquisitor, I haven’t decided if I want it to actually be Marsh yet). Marsh Steel Inquisitor probably has the most creative process for a custom figure that I’ve ever done. I decided to try to actually drive nails through the figure and it surprisingly worked. I wasn’t sure if it would ruin the base body or mess up the articulation and I’m very happy that it didn’t. The only place where it varies is with the shoulders where I cut the nail and drilled a small divot on the front and back of the shoulder and glued the nails in. If I had tried stabbing the nails through the shoulders, it would’ve ruined the articulation. I do wish I had been a little more careful with the markings around the eyes because they look a little messy but overall I’m very proud of this one. To wrap up the Mistborn customs is Spook. He is probably my favorite of these three Mistborn customs. This is his look from the third book. The body is completely repainted and the cape is some fabric I cut and then burned a bit. His clothing is also supposed to have a singed look. Very happy with this one. Now to the sole Stormlight custom, Navani Kholin! Navani is probably one of the hardest ones I’ve made so far. Her Havah was hand sewn by me and honestly for my first time sewing I think it turned out nicely. Her head was completely repainted by me and I’m really happy with how well the face tone matches the rest of the body as the head was taken from a different figure. This was originally going to be Jasnah but I figured since I couldn’t find a head that fit Jasnah and that she would probably have a dress that allowed for more movement (being a Radiant) Id just make this one Navani. Super happy with this one and since this technique with the dress worked, I’ll probably redo shallan in the same way as I’ve never been very happy with how the first one turned out. thanks for checking out my work! Currently working on a Dalinar and Kaladin (finally) as I found the perfect bodies for them. They should be posted hopefully in December January. I also have ideas for a Breeze, Elend and like I mentioned before Jasnah
  6. I have a hypothesis: Shards do not have free will. They are deterministic. This is informed by the fact that a Shard's future sight is impaired by a person seeing the future (Renarin), but we see no sign of Cultivation's future sight having any blotting out affect of Odium's future sight. Now, this could be explained by saying that Cultivation is subtle, and able to mask her intentions from even Fortune from the spiritual realm, but I think it more likely that the Intent of a Shard is so overwhelming that all actions of a Shard are predetermined, but with the ability to see the future can easily look considered to a mortal. Possible exception: a newly ascended vessel may have greater free will. Vin's ability to strike at, and destroy Ati suggests this. If this is true, then Cultivation may be practically blind to the future at the moment, due to Taravangian's combo of future sight, cosmic power, and free will. And Taravangian would not be suffering from the same blindness.
  7. What is Odium's metal called? Before it was Raysium, but now that there's a new vessel, Is it Taravangium? Odiumium?
  8. I've been thinking how weird it is how bondsmith spren can just make or conduct various forms of investiture come into the physical realm. I think they might be Spren of the spiritual realm, first off the investiture itself is of the spiritual realm so them manipulating something not of the cognitive realm is weird. Second the Nightwatcher can do some kind of trickery with connection though I may be wrong since it seems everything attributed by the Nightwatcher was actually cultivation. I have feeling that when the gods of Roshar made bondsmith spren and unmade the took creatures from the spiritual realm and made them or unmade them so that they could experience the physical and cognitive realms. what do you think? Also since all things in the spiritual ream exist as one, it isn't weird for them to be as different as they are as bondsmith spren because the are probably like given more individual identity out of the spiritual realm.
  9. Hey! I collected all of Hoid's stories in a document, I'm going to try and memorize one. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ThGsW0T5AjZQpnirO6rb0JgeR0S9CPe7RnJ3tWe2dac/edit?usp=sharing I was just interested in reading all of them, so I collected them, and thought that it would be good for me to put them here. I included the Wandersail (Way of Kings Chapter 57), Fleet (Words of Radiance Chapter 59), The Girl Who Looked Up (Combined both Shallan's Version and Hoid's, Oathbringer Chapters 25 and 82), Mishim and Tsa (Oathbringer Chapter 67), The Dragon and the Dog (Rhythm of War Chapter 80), The Origin of the God Kings (Warbreaker Chapter 32)

Which means if you haven't read Part Five of Rhythm of War, you should not watch this video, begone, non-Rhythm of War Part Fivers! AWAY WITH YOU, DIVERT THY EYES Right, so, it's Part Five time. Normally I'd put like a little rundown of favourites bits or highlights of the episode in the description but this Part Five? Come on, the whole thing is my favourite bit. Enjoy a bit of our theorycrafting for Book Five whilst you're at it, and let me know what your favourite parts of Part Five were, as we as your top theories for Book Five!
  11. This week's episode is on the Lights of Roshar. Spoilers for Rhythm of War and the cosmere (but not Dawnshard) in this one! Here Evgeni really makes up for not being on the last two episodes by blabbing a bunch, but it is all excellent. This is the good stuff. Even in this episode it feels like we still don't go super in-depth. There's so much to talk about in Rhythm of War! We have Eric (Chaos), Ian (Weiry), Evgeni (Argent), David (Windrunner) whose audio cosplays as a robot sometimes, and then we have Joshua (jofwu). Also, we're going back to weekly after this. Our next episode will be on State of Sanderson 2020, which happens on December 19th, and we'll get a show for you out that weekend on it. The incredible thumbnail art is from Connor Chamberlain, who does just incredible cosmere art: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/kbocxi/the_light_of_roshar/ You can find his other stuff here! 12. From the album Tinkercad 3D models

I'll always be a Mistborn fan, but I love Pattern more and more with every math joke. The new sketch of cryptics in the cognitive realm was SO COOL and I figured I could fake a low-poly robe! Mess with the model here: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/36Xoem8jhY6, and give me suggestions for this or anything else if you have ideas!
  13. Welcome to the Overlady Reads Rhythm of War Part Four!!!! As with the other weeks, this is a spoiler warning for Rhythm of War Part Four. To click on this article is to summon spoilers unto your eyes, the likes of which have never been seen before! I bid you now, TURN BACK, TURN BACK, RETURN FROM WHENCE YOU CAME. Unless you've read Part Four, in which case that's fine. So, let's continue with Kaladin and Navani being miserable in the tower. And miserable they are, Kaladin even gets stuck on Braize for a little while! We finally return for the climax of Adolin and Shallans story, the trial to end all trials! (Just kidding, it's a sham trial that was more politics than justice). We also finally get to discover what's in Gavilars black sphere and quite literally no one could have guessed it before this book BRANDON. Let us know down below your favourite parts of Rhythm of War Part Four below!
  14. There are 16 Allomantic metals and 16 shards. However in Rhythm of War we see Warlight. A combination of Honor and Odium's light. So how many total metal combinations are there? I suck at math. Also I am assuming there can be combinations of three or more shards to create a new light. Also I think you can condense light into a metal. So how many metals can a Mistborn Burn, if a Mistborn burns all metals. (How much wood can a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?)
  15. I'm surprised that there isn't already a thread by this name. After Rhythm of War, Navani skyrocketed to the top of my list of favorite characters, both in SA and in the Cosmere at large. So here's a thread for all those that feel the same way I do. Time to fangirl over Roshar's favorite Scholar-Queen! [I'll probably contribute a post or two about why exactly I love Navani, but I think I'll keep the OP free of the details for now.]
  16. This week's episode of Shardcast is a bit late, but it's time to talk about Taravangian! This one has big Rhythm of War and cosmere spoilers so beware. Our cast this week is Eric (Chaos), Ian (Weiry), Grace (thegatorgirl), and Marvin (Paleo)! Thumbnail art of Taravangian is Mastermind, by Ari Ibarra, from Call to Adventure: The Stormlight Archive: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/g229km Art that is in Marvin's background by taratjah: https://www.instagram.com/p/BumPwumnjiO/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet/ If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/bMAUS5c Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 17. Can we talk about her? Because her character was easily one of the most amazing things in the entire book. I can't say I like her, as in I like Kaladin, or Adolin or any of my favourite characters. But she was an example of how to make a character you don't necessarily like, or whose opinions you share, but who's still a great character. I found her unnerving, terrifying, but fascinating and so very complicated. Her relationship with Navani was so well written, and in parts I found it ... predictable where this would lead to (I expected a Rosharan equivalent to the atomic bomb and I guess the potential for that is still there) but the journey to that point, all the small discoveries, the experiments, the talks, Raboniel's hope, her motivation, her grief and her end - that could probably be one of my favourite arcs of the entire book, the series even. Also her lies and "betrayals" ... it all made sense. Had the positions be reversed Navani would have done the same thing, and she did kill her in the end, after all. This character and all she stands for is so telling for the grander conflict - that's not merely between good and evil with humans and singers/Fused as good and evil, but much more complicated. I'm almost sad she died, because that was so good. So good.
  18. So, during the first few chapters of Rhythm of War, we read Navani's lecture before the beginning of each chapter, and my mom who just started reading noticed something. Each of the metals pointed out in the lecture are all Allomantic and the effects it's stated to have on spren almost exactly match up. For example: Zinc (aka Rioting) - Causes spren to more strongly manifest in gemstones Brass (aka Soothing) - Causes spren to weaken and withdraw in gemstones Bronze (aka Seeking) - Creates warning Fabrials that can detect objects or entities nearby Pewter (aka Thugs) - Causes a spren's attributes to "express its attribute in force" She also noticed that in Chapter 8, whatever Renarin did to Moash strongly resembled the Eleventh Metal, although I am less sure of the connection between that event and Allomancy. Has anyone else noticed this?
  19. Felt is a Ghostblood sleeper agent. Way back in TFE: “Felt, one of the House Venture chief spies, climbed into the carriage, nodding his hawkish, mustached face respectfully to Elend, then Jastes.” Felt is a spy, originally from TFE Scadrial. He was present when Kell died, during the revolt and Elend’s speech, and the Catacande. And now he’s here, on Roshar. We know the GBs have a spy near the Kholins. We know that having an agent near prospective members is common practice. Felt has been by Dalinar’s side for years. He’s a loyal and trusted member of Dalinar’s forces. And now he’s on the Shadesmar trip, in the perfect position to ‘innocently’ question Kalak and discover the whereabouts of Ba-Ado-Mishram. We were all but told he was a worldhopper in Dalinar’s memories. And we know he’s tried to find the Nightwatcher before going on Dalinar’s mission to find her. His presence here, now, is remarkably suspicious - and no one suspects him at all. So: I posit that Felt is a Ghostblood agent in deep cover. Thoughts?
  20. So, in RoW, we obviously got a lot of new shards. I always have fun coming up with fusion shard names, so let’s do some using the new shards from RoW. Ideas: Mercy + Odium = Sympathy. I feel like this would actually be a really good pairing. I have an ongoing idea that Mercy is somehow the “virtue that gives Odium context” (in reference to Frost saying Odium is god’s own divine hatred separated from the virtues that gave it context). Whimsy + Odium = Tantrum? That’s not an actually good shard name, but I think it sums up what this would be pretty well. Invention + Cultivation = Experimentation Valor + Honor = Determination/Conquest. The “unstoppable force” of shards plus the “immovable object” of shards. Mercy + Devotion = Salvation/Worship. I feel like this could be something like “Compassion ”, but has the potential to also be really scary. The “cult” shard. A base of unquestioning devoted followers with a deity who performs miracles... add dominion and this becomes truly terrifying. Whimsy + Honor seems like a really bad combination. Any ideas what it would be called?
  21. Welcome to the Overlady Reads Rhythm of War Part Three!!! As with the other weeks, this is a spoiler warning for Rhythm of War Part Three. Do not click this unless you have finished Rhythm of War Part Three, it will be spoiled for you!!! This part is pretty miserable for Kaladin and Navani. Kaladin is having to deal with being trapped in the occupied Urithiru whilst Navani is having to deal with the nefarious Raboniel. Who is great by the way, how great is Raboniel? We get some good flashbacks in this part, with a bit of drama from Venli and Eshonia. Venli's story continues as she discovers Rlain still lives and starts making her first steps down her Radiant path. Let us know down below your favourite parts of Rhythm of War Part Three below!
  22. You thought we were done talking about Rhythm of War? Not even close. This time we have a different cast and we talk about all sorts of things that we didn't talk about in our first Rhythms of War Reactions cast. The book is so big we still probably didn't touch everything, though. But don't you worry: our deep dive podcasts will begin next Saturday, and we have so very many topics to get through. This time, we have Eric (Chaos) because he records the episodes, Grace (thegatorgirl), Evgeni (Argent), Joshua (jofwu), and Ben (Overlord Jebus). The thumbnail image is the Pailiah endpaper from Rhythm of War, by the magnificent Magali Villeneuve, https://twitter.com/Cathaoir1/status/1323683645362786306/photo/1 and you should definitely buy it here: https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/magvilleneuve/kalak-the-stormlight-archive/ If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/bMAUS5c Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 23. I don’t think I’m allowed to post this in the fan creations section yet (if I’m wrong, let me know) so I’m posting it here. And yes, I would like feedback. (I forgot you need to say that now.) The Queen’s Wit lounges at the the far end of the table, his dark hair framing his sharp, pale features and unnaturally blue eyes. On his lap is a lute, which he plucks with a languid hand. The other rests on the arm of his chair, beside his Spren, Design. He has many names, this Wit, acquired over his long years. Midius, Hoid, Cephandrius, Topaz, Dust, Wit, among many others, including the one coined by the man at the table’s other end: Drifter. The Survivor’s chair is tilted back, his feet resting on the table, the edges of his mist cloak just brushing the floor. He holds a pastry in one scarred hand and the other bent behind his head. Blond hair falls about his face, half obscuring the spike impaling his right eye. The other is focused on his opponent, it’s sharpness belying his relaxed demeanor. The Survivor counts barely above three centuries to his life, yet he has begun to acquire as many titles as the Wit has names. Survivor, Sovereign, Lord of the Mists, Lord of Scars, Thaidakar. The last being the source of the present dispute. The third member of the party, there to mediate, clears his throat. Frost’s appearance is that of a wizened old man. Appearances, of course, are entirely deceptive, for Frost is not a man. “We may begin,” he says now. “Who will speak first?” The Survivor takes a bite from his pastry, chewing loudly. He smirks as he lightly inclines his head to his opponent. The Wit refuses to be baited, plucking out a discordant, yet somehow harmonious, rhythm as he begins to speak. “Lord of Scars,” he says, his tone wry, “unless you want me coming over to slap you around - again - I‘d advise you to do the Cosmere a favor and stick to meddling on your own world. I’m certain they’ll be happy to worship you for it.” The Survivor swallows, and smirks, a dangerous gleam in his hazel eye. “Tell me Drifter: ever considered taking your own advice? Because from where I’m sitting, it’s just the ash-pot calling the kettle black.” ”If I may,” Frost interrupts, knowing too well where this will likely lead, “perhaps neither of you should be interfering at all.” For the first - and last - time in the history of the Cosmere, Hoid and Kelsier found themselves in complete agreement. The Dragon was obviously insane. Hoid has no moral ground to tell ANYONE in the Cosmere not to interfere, even if other people (cough...Kell...cough) shouldn’t be.
