This is your invitation to the Cosmere Mini Bang! Event Info | Guidelines/FAQ | Timeline | Ask What is a Big Bang/Mini Bang? From Fanlore: A Big Bang (or “Bang” for short) is a specific type of challenge usually involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms. Most Big Bangs have a similar format: Writers sign up to take part in the challenge and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, each one is assigned one or more artists, or artists might claim stories from posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story. This art can take the form of illustrations, manips, photo collages, vids, icon sets, etc. Mini bangs are similar to big bangs, but are smaller in scope, with a smaller word count requirement than traditional big bangs. So, what exactly is the word minimum? We’ve set up two tracks for this event: the Mini Bang and the Petite Bang. For the Mini track: writers are expected to write a minimum of 3k words. Artists should create one simple piece to accompany their writer’s fic—the definition of a “simple” piece is up to artist discretion, but should approximately match the amount of work writers put into their fic. For the Petite track: writers are expected to write a minimum of 10k words. Artists should create one complex piece OR two simple pieces—again, definitions are up to artist discretion. How long do I have to do this? Writer sign-ups are open from Wednesday, May 1 to Wednesday, June 12, 2024, and are expected to have 50% of their work done by Sunday, August 4, at which point they will be asked to provide a summary and excerpt of their fic for artist claims. Artist sign-ups are open from Wednesday, May 1 to Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Claims happen a few days later, and artists will receive their assignments a few days after that. Fics and art are to be posted beginning on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. This gives writers four months total to work on their fic, and artists a little over two months to create their art. (Mild Oathbringer spoilers) The Blue Envelope with the Bronze Seal Rated Teen, 6000 words Summary: In a world in which soulmates exist, Sigzil rejects his to embark on an entirely different kind of adventure. Chapter 1 For being such an expansive auditorium crammed with so many people, it was unnerving to hear such a large silence. Sigzil was half-certain that everyone could hear the thumping of his heart. Certainly he could hear that one of the adjudicators standing against a far wall was chewing something. Focus. He stared at the top sheet of the pages in front of him, hands in his lap, willing the test to start. Would he even be able to concentrate while he was this nervous? He could hear clothing rustling as his fellow applicants adjusted their robes and wraps; the nervous tapping of pens, quickly self-chastened back to stillness; then at last, one set of footsteps, ringing clearly through the hall like bells. “You may begin.” Finally! Sigzil flipped over the first page eagerly, then skimmed through the length of the test, evaluating the difficulty of the questions to ease his mind a little. This would be a good place to start: actuarial questions. Get through those, and then he could start on the history of— The sound of whispering distracted him, and he glanced at the doorway to find a tall, large woman in high ranked scion’s robes in a huddle with two of the guards. They looked up, directly at him. Oh, Yaezir guide me, he thought miserably, and snapped back to the pages in front of him. If I get kicked out just for looking up, my parents will kill me. More footsteps, this time the heavy thud of boots. They sounded like they were getting closer, but Sigzil didn’t dare look up. He frowned, trying to concentrate. Calculate the merchant’s profit, and then subtract the taxes for the Prime, given Hazep’s Rule of Sixths. Consult the table of risks— The footsteps got louder, then louder. He covered one ear as he scribbled. Average distance of goods, value of goods…hold on. Are they delivered by ship or over land? Oh Pali, of course it’s both— Two looming shadows darkened the desk. A gauntleted arm knocked the pen from Sigzil’s hand, and it landed with a crack against the bronze floor. Sigzil watched numbly as his lucky pen shattered into a thousand pieces under the rows of desks. “Oops, I do apologize,” a gruff voice said, but Sigzil felt like the words were travelling to him underwater. Then two large hands grabbed him under the armpits and yanked him to standing. He hardly heard what came next. “I’m afraid you’ll have to come with us, Citizen Cheater.” Keep reading

Here's a scene from my fic Of Me, 3000 words, rated Mature. It's written from Sja-anat's point of view as she follows Evi through her years in Kholinar. Here's an excerpt: Sja-anat watched her cry. She knew Evi’s passions. You are lonely, she said after a time. She had seen the way the Alethi treated her, and she felt a kinship in that. Sja-anat was too elevated above the common spren and Fused, yet too different from the other Unmade. She missed Ba-Ado-Mishram. There were none left like her, and Evi’s passionate loneliness touched her. “By the storms, I was already lonely before. Now what will I do?” Evi whispered. She stared into space for a while, then sniffed. “No. I must not despair,” she said, brushing away the gloomspren. “I have my son. He is of me.” He is of the Blackthorn. Evi scowled at her fiercely. “He is also of me. I am the only one who can show him a different path. I will not allow my son to grow into a monster. I will enlighten him about his heritage. He will be my home.” The words stunned Sja-anat into silence. Evi was often soft and accommodating, but her core was hard as obsidian. Evi stood, then paced a few moments in silence. Eventually, she sat again, looking up into the mirror with that boundless curiosity that pleased Sja-anat. “Do you have any children?” she asked. Sja-anat hummed uncertainly. I corrupt lesser spren with my essence. Is that like having children? Evi smiled, considering her answer. “My children are of me and of their father. Your spren are of Roshar, and of you. So, it is a little like having children. Do you love them?” I feel…passionate about them. Many die. I wish… She stopped, startled by a secret she didn’t even know she had. “What do you wish?” Evi’s eyebrows rose, and she leaned in closer. I wish…they could be free. I wonder if…they could be more. “I understand,” Evi said, glancing towards her son’s room, then back up at Sja-anat. “I want Adolin to be free, too. So he can truly be himself, not what the Alethi want him to be. Free.” Her voice broke as she said it. She stood and stepped close to the mirror, looking back and forth into Sja-anat’s white eyes. Slowly, she raised her hand and pressed it against the glass at shoulder height. “Free and at peace,” she whispered, so close as to fog the glass. Free and at peace, Sja-anat repeated, mirroring Evi’s hand. As she pressed, Evi gasped. Sja-anat felt something. A bond, forming between them. A…warmth. For the first time, she had a secret she wished to keep from Odium.

But Shallan and Adolin have been talking about their relationship, and now Shallan has a proposal of her own for Kaladin… This is a choose your own adventure for Kaladin! What kind of relationship does he want to have with them, and how will he make that happen? The story guides through three questions and has eight happy endings ranging from platonic friendship to explicit sex. It takes place in a Canada modern AU setting and it references characters, themes, and quotes from Stormlight, all the way through to RoW.
