  1. I've considered the same thoughts - and decided that there couldn't be any moving parts, and therefore no mechanism to do anything but be a medieval weapon (no guns, no bombs). However I am interested in if a Knight is able to form any vague, abstract shapes using their spren, which would give undeniable tactical advantage (instantaneous cover as he/she ducks behind a Shardwall). Of course, the ideas on shape might not (and probably don't) come from the Knight, but the Spren, meaning any shape they take on is a cognitive representation. Syl becomes a sword because it's what she knows is a sword - she cannot become a random sphere or wall because it doesn't have purpose. This might also explain the ornamentation of Shardblades - something reflecting the cognitive realm (even if I always thought it was the Spren personalising it as such). (I'm a little tired, so if anything doesn't make sense -which I'm sure is the case- I'll fix it later)
  2. True - but I was just working under my hypothetical, speculation proposing Adonalsium was shattered with the express intent on removing Odium, and once Odium is removed it would be put together again.
  3. As I said, this is complete speculation (what I consider not enough to be a theory), but I truly appreciate the discussion. Especially all the theorists I've been following around the forums and who have actually been taking part in my very own thread It may be that hatred more of a neutral feeling than I'm seeing it as, but... Well, it may be my personal beliefs and upbringing, but I'm generally a firm believer than hatred is never a good thing. One shouldn't hate rascism, merely not be tolerant of it. Hatred breeds hatred, you know? This is a mature forum, and for that reason I'm being open with these opinions as controversial as they may seem. Philosophical standpoint aside however, I agree this would somehow make Odium to be 'the big bad of the cosmere', a villain that certainly shouldn't be around this early. I'm not entirely convinced (as always), as even with Odium removed Adonalsium needs to be put together again.
  4. The explanation fro spanreeds are that they're bonded - joined in a particular way. The duality is too similar to quantum entanglement for it to be a coincidence. I think the effect is instantaneous = FTL.
  5. I always considered Feruchemical iron to be boson interaction (boson fields)
  6. While it may mean nothing, I find it important to note that Vin channeled some of her own hatred towards Rayse (Ruin) when they killed each other. I picked up on it in a reread because of hate = Odium and how Odium has been splintering Shards, and the fact WoB is that the ability to splinter Shards is in some way unique to Odium (though maybe not entirely). As I said, could be nothing though.
  7. I've always been interested in Compounding Nicrosil infused with Stormlight to fuel a Surgebinder worldhopper while away from Roshar. We know that some magic systems can be fuelled by others (which I will take to mean as you can hack Feruchemy and Allomancy to compound more Stormlight). We also know that Stormlight and breaths seem to have some kind of equivalency though it's not confirmed. If that's the case, then there should be away to create breaths from Nicrosil, though as said before, the conversion maybe be very low. It could be a very expensive process to manufacture even a couple of Breaths.
  8. And yet the Odium oddity is there. Why Odium? Why not something more neutral, like discord or chaos? Even those have less immediate negativity, despite what popular belief would let you think. Hate is always something to be avoided. Unlike any of the other shards (even Dominion), Odium is a Shard to be fought. Granted, I can't say much for any Shards not released yet, but I feel the groundwork is solid enough.
  9. There's a bond between the bearer and the Shardblade. You can. Well following by everyone's example... Not so much useless as mundane uses.... Using Feruchemical iron to control the height of a hot air balloon. When everyone uses a rope with their climbing gear as they climb a sheer cliff, you just Iron Pull yourself on the metal... uh... there's a technical word for those metal line securing thingoes. Storing connection when you don't want to be noticed, tapping it when you're in the mood for socialising Using a shard blade instead of a pocket knife Burn Atium while playing tic tac toe (and watch in amazement as multiple Atium shadows unfold) Go ice skating on any surface using the Friction Surge Pretend you're Jesus with the Friction Surge Impersonate many superheroes with Gravity Surge Bundle yourself in the thickest clothes you can find, then wear them everywhere while storing brass till you are constantly at the right temperature Store speed while at your desk job, then run home. Breathe pure oxygen to fill your cadmium minds easier, then use them for whatever deep sea diving exploration you have planned. Use life sense to always know where everyone is Use bronze minds to always force yourself to conform to a proper sleep pattern. Good bye jet lag! Store tin when avoiding a particular smell, taste, or any sensation. Tap later when confronted with a pleasurable one. Store up pewter to properly cosplay the Hulk transformation <-- I'm proud of this one Burn bend alloy to do some really funky costume changes power rangers style Beat the top nerd with copper compounding. Use Feruchemical zinc if they're actually smart Some more awesome uses for powers: Using spanreeds for FTL communication and break special relativity. Extension of this is replace your modem with a few conjoined rubies to the main server till you have internet with literally no lag or loading time. Get a tattoo of a stamp or an Aon for instantaneous power awesomeness I just realised that this probably doesn't count as useless at all oh well!
  10. Learning about the Cosmere from my Mistborn beginnings has always seemed fascinating to me ever since I first went onto the Coppermind for the first time to discover the presence of Devotion as a Shard akin to that of Preservation and Ruin. I was sold on Sanderson since then. The idea that forces in the universe had a manifestation and bearer was inspired. What struck me as odd about the Stormlight Archive was the presence of Odium. All the Shards we've seen so far represent something fairly neutral (justifications are below, skip those if you don't need to read them). Ruin - Despite his depiction as an antagonist, Ruin is not 'evil' as such, he merely wanted to follow his intent to follow change and decay. It's just unfortunate that it would mean the destruction of the world. Preservation - Conversely, despite being shown as a force of good, Preservation could easily have been an antagonist if there was a revolutionary phase on Scadrial and somehow Preservation was moving to stop advancements in technology (just realised how fitting Rashek's work in the Final Empire was). Devotion - You can be devoted to anything, be it something of ill or good intent. Dominion - There's nothing wrong for a hierarchy in society, and that by itself shows some having dominion over others. Endowment - The act of giving something to something else in transference and exchange is one of the most neutral. As we see from Endowment's magical system itself, Awakening, giving something to someone is not always a good thing (Nightblood). Honor - A moral code, a belief to live by. If there's anything we learn from in the Stormlight Archive it's that despite believing what you do is right and following your own set of rules and living up to your promises and oaths, it's not always the right thing to do. Cultivation - One may cultivate any crop, be it the will to do good or the anger to revenge. And then bam, we've been shaken up by the last one: Odium It seems the odd one out. Hatred. How is it that the universe, in all of it's components have hate being one sixteenth of its entirety? From something so simple as the forces in the universe having life, we are confronted that hate has one as well. Scary stuff. It raises a question I find. Could Odium's existence be the reason for the Shattering in the first place? Shatter Adonalsium, remove Odium, then put the pieces back together without the corrupted piece - or Shard in this case. This would even tie in with Hoid's heightened activity in the Stormlight Archive where Odium is active. Maybe Hoid was the one to break Adonalsium. Complete speculation on my part, but I want to hear from you lot about it.
  11. accidentally down voted.. Could someone help out?
  12. Incredibly thorough, you are to be applauded. You raised some interesting points that I hadn't thought of - like the Kholin network effect. I never paused to consider the political motivations of spren - which are definitely existent as Jasnah has made note of it herself. Good work.
  13. Reinforce this with the fact that Shallash's (the Lightweaver herald) divine attribute is creativity and honesty, I strongly believe that this is the case as well.
  14. I'm pretty sure as they're red, that those are Stormspren instead of the comet spren. No evidence or anything to back it up, just seems a more fitting description...
  15. Was just about to post just this actually. Everyone seems to be implying that Moash wanted to kill Elhokar for 'the greater good', when that plainly wasn't the truth at all. He wanted plain and simple revenge, and the fact he pretended to justify his reasons is not honourable at all - it's the complete opposite.
  16. Well time bubbles seem to anchor themselves somehow due to them remaining fixed on the ground - being up in the air shouldn't make a difference (air displacement) and I believe brandon said something about the bubbles anchored directly to Scadrial (if you were in a train, the bubble wouldn't go with the train). That light pile up though...
  17. If I were a Mistborn wanting to travel to the future... I would probably do it high up, probably. A Duralumin push off the highest thing I could find, and then, being fairly comfortable that with the increasing rarity of Mistborn and ignorance to any other way of getting that high, I would quickly down my cadmium and duralumin and burn. When finished, drop a coin, land softly with plenty of time to react (unless they've invented planes by then in which you've been quite the idiot) and rinse and repeat till you get... Whatever it is you exactly want.
  18. It's a sound enough theory, and I suppose I could support it (despite my initial ideas being that you got the two surges and then a combination of the two). Lightweavers and Elsecallers need to be swapped though. Lightweavers - in their very name - are the masters of illusion. Elsecallers are more likely specialised in Soulcasting due to Jasnah's 'ranged Soulcasting', where she wasn't required to touch it (though from what we've seen of Shallan's POV, it may not be necessary in the first place). I still feel inclined with my own thoughts however. Basic lashing combines with a full lashing to create a reverse lashing (gravitation + adhesion = mixture), as adhesion is able to force the gravitation to stick to that object (adhesion). Also I think Szeth might have said it used more Stormlight, implying the two surges are present. In the case of Jasnah, I think Elsecalling might be a combination of Transformation and Transportation. Lightweavers may be able to do something really cool when they combine illusions with transportation. Sorry if I don't make sense, I'm a bit tired.
  19. While not trying to fly in the face of your theory, it's interesting to note that the joining of Preservation and Ruin to form Harmony provides a certain counterpoint.
  20. That's alright, Feather - just take it as a compliment to how much we enjoy listening to your reactions to the book we all love
  21. Sorry that I lack the patience and skill of observation to check to see if this has been already posted - but has anyone made references to Hoid's quote to Dalinar in The Way of Kings? I'll try and find the quote (I just found it now listening to the audiobook) when I have free time if anyone wants it or it hasn't been posted yet. Hoid makes reference to the world 'being a storm, spinning and turning, but us being too close to see it' or of some variation. I immediately paused and came here.
  22. The only trouble I'm having with pairings is Cadmium and Bendalloy. The similarities of oxygenation of blood along with nutritional storage seem like they are an almost Allomantic pairing rather than a Feruchemical one. The rest more or less fall in line (except Chromium, because I'm not confident of how 'fortune' is stored, but it seems similar enough to external investiture). Also, on note of Electrum and Brass, I'm sure if Brandon did provide some logic towards the pairings of metals, then they must still be able to be hand waved as fitting the formula somehow (as I don't believe Brandon would be so lax as to not retcon something like that).
  23. Someone definitely needs to ask Brandon "why isn't Renarin a Dustbringer?". Not that Renarin isn't Learned and Giving, but he does seem to fit Brave and Obedient far more. Sorry if bringing back threads is looked down upon here...
