  1. Well it's 1:00am here... And I have barely gotten started on my role analysis, so needless to say that won't be coming tonight. I should be able to get it posted sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, perhaps a few others out there will find this useful- I made a list of all the possible roles with a quick summary of their powers, so it's easy to see which Radiants have which combination of powers. Windrunner: Adhesion (role-block), Gravitation (action guarantee) Skybreaker: Gravitation (action guarantee), Division (kill) Dustbringer: Division (kill), Abrasion (immune to all actions) Edgedancer: Abrasion (immune to all actions), Progression (save from death) Truthwatcher: Progression (save from death), Illumination (PMs) Lightweaver: Illumination (PMs), Transformation (scan role/alignment) Elsecaller: Transformation (scan role/alignment), Transportation (redirect an action) Willshaper: Transportation (redirect an action), Cohesion (share actions) Stoneward: Cohesion (share actions), Tension (cancel random action) Bondsmith: Tension (cancel random action), Adhesion (role-block)
  2. *sigh* I just spent the last 15 minutes doing my own vote tally to reach the end of the thread and find that you've already posted it. Oh well. Thanks Maill. One point of minor suspicion that jumped out to me when reading through the thread again. Feligon voted for Phattemer, followed closely by Eowyn voting for Phattemer and then retracting her vote. Could be nothing, or it could be a slip up after some collaboration in a doc. I'm not going to cast any votes (I think I'm past the deadline anyway), but I will be keeping an eye on all three of them (Feligon, Eowyn, and Phatt) for the next few cycles.
  3. As for my part, yes it's true that in the past I have advocated against early lynches. However, I've since learned that there really isn't any way to stop them, and trying to do so doesn't make you very popular... The reason I haven't posted more is that I really just haven't had time the past few days between work and a toddler and an 8 1/2 month pregnant wife. I don't really have any suspicions at the moment, nor anyone I feel needs to be poked. I have been wanting to do a detailed analysis of all the roles and powers, and discuss potential villager/eliminator strategies with each, but again- not enough time. I'll try to get something done tonight but no guarantee that it will be up before the rollover. Speaking of which, when is the rollover anyway? How much time do we have left?
  4. I'll echo what meta said. I've advocated this before, most notably in the AG, but I'll say it again. If you're poke voting, you shouldn't be making it blatantly obvious why you're poke voting. If you do, and you're lucky enough to have hit an eliminator, then all you're doing is telling the eliminator exactly what lies she needs to tell in order to alleviate the suspicion. Bad example: "I'm voting for Aonar because I want to know why he cast a vote for Wilson." Better example: "I'm voting for Aonar. Something about his voting habits raises my suspicions about him." If you want to comeback later- near the end of the day phase or shortly after the lynch and explain your reasoning, then you can do so. In fact, that's probably a good idea anyway.
  5. Haelbarde withdrew from the game before sign ups closed. I don't know who Ralyt Faialen is but judging from the last name I'm assuming it's a character of our illustrious GM's creation. Either way, neither of those characters were actually participating in this game, so nobody really died, it's just how Aonar is kicking the game off.
  6. Wannan deftly climbed down the chasm wall- no, deftly wasn't the right word- he recklessly climbed down the chasm wall. He hadn't waited for a rope to be fetched, and the crowd at the top of the chasm watched on with horror, certain that he would slip on the damp storm-smoothed rocks and fall to his death at any moment. He climbed about halfway down before pausing, prying something from the rocks, the scampering back up the cliff wall. The crowd gasped and cried out when his footing gave out and he slipped. He fell about 10 feet before catching ahold of a tuft of grass that had emerged from its shell to drink up the fresh rainwater. Wanna just chuckled, then finished climbing the rest of the way to the top. He was surprised by the angry and shocked reception he got from the others. "I already told ya," he said with a grin. "Ain't nothing that can kill me, I'm stormin' invincible. Besides, we got more important things to worry about." He tossed the shell-whistle to one of the others. "Looks like someone has been givin' our chulls a little encouragement to jump to their deaths."
  7. So, reading back through the sign ups, can I just say that I think it's hilarious that half of us are playing characters who are delusional or mad in some way? And the other half all appear to be world hoppers of some sort? I mean, what must Thranadal think of his army? Half of his troops think that they could take on a Herald and win and the other half couldn't tell you the difference between crem and a great shell.
  8. I'll be signing up as Wannan, or just "Wan," a dark eyed soldier who is thoroughly convinced of his immortality. When challenged about it he replies, "Hey, I've survived everything thrown at me so far, haven't I?" one question: does that mean you have to specify whether you want to learn a player's role OR alignment? Or do you learn them both automatically? Or one of them at random?
  9. Actually, reading this triggered my memory. Yes, I WAS the one who did the allomancy emoticons As I recall, I grabbed screenshots from the PDF of the Mistborn Adventure Game manual and then condensed them down to emoticon size.
  10. I talked with Chaos once very briefly about adding some inquisitor-emoticons to the site, like the ones in my sig (click the spoiler tags). He said he would want something in the style of the site's current emoticons, and that's about where the conversation died. Having all the Allomantic symbols in my sig as emoticons would be awesome, too. I can't take credit for those though- I believe it was Claincy who came up with them. As far as more traditional emoticons go, I would love something to replace :\ and -__- EDIT: Belated update: I should note that at steelministry.com (where all of the emoticons in my sig came from) we use 3:( and 3:D for the angry and happy inquisiticons, respectively.
  11. Thanks Seonid, that works for me. I feel much more comfortable voting for someone agreed upon in the general thread then going with individual faction targets. Just to reiterate, as per Kas's clarification, the Eliminators Discoverers don't have any special roles or abilities other than that of Blasphemous scholar. They don't have ANY way to kill other players other than the vote. While it might seem that they are pretty harmless, the truth is that if we ignore them it's all but guaranteed that they will win. Even if Discovery has less than 6 members (which I doubt, since they don't have any bloodsealers, resealers, arbiters, etc. etc. to balance things out) it will be relatively easy for them to keep at least 1 member in each of the other factions, which will let them control the vote for the whole game. Combine that with their blasphemous scholar extra lives, meaning that it will take two lynches/kills to get rid of every single one of them. Our only check on their power is the diplomats. If someone were to step forward with evidence that they were a jindoese diplomat and had found a discoverer, then it would be pretty hard (though not impossible) for discovery to stop us from lynching the outed player. But again, it will still take us 2 cycles to kill the discovered discoverer. So anyway, ironically enough, the only way to guarantee that discovery doesn't control the lynch is to form bandwagons. So I will be voting for emerald today. EDIT: added color.
  12. Okay, so I've been doing some thinking and running some numbers and what I've found troubles me. TL/DR version is this: unless all 3 of the main factions band together, the Discoverers will control the lynch votes. Okay, here's how I came to that conclusion. Disclaimer: this is based on a LOT of assumptions. However, I honestly feel that all the assumptions are plausible, if not probable. Point 1: We started with 27 players, 9 per main faction. It's reasonable to assume that there are 6 Discoverers- 2 per faction. This in of itself is kind of frightening to think about. If this is true, it means the breakdown is as follows: 7 true Heritagers 7 true Moderationers 7 true Gloryers 6 Discoverers. That would mean that Discovery started with only 1 less member than the other factions. Point 2: Right now, our player distribution is as follows, give or take 1 for each number listed in parentheses: Moderation: 10 members (8 true members, 2 discoverers) Glory: 9 members (7 true members, 2 discoverers) Heritage: 8 members (6 true members, 2 discoverers) Point 3: Take the scenario where all three main factions go for their own self interests and vote independently of each other. Assume for the sake of simplicity that everybody casts a vote, and everybody votes for their faction's chosen lynchee (I know that in reality you will have players who are inactive or who simply don't vote every cycle. But theoretically they should be randomly distributed among all the factions. Also, I don't know which factions have which vote manipulating and/or action blocking powers available, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that these more or less cancel each other out.) Moderation casts 8 votes for player A Glory casts 7 votes for player B Heritage casts 6 votes for player C Discovery has 6 votes to add to whichever player out of A, B, or C that they want to lynch. Because of the PM-vote nature of this game, there is no reason for Discovery to try to conceal who they're voting for. In this hypothetical situation, with only a 2-vote spread between the first and last place lynchees, Discovery easily controls the vote. Not good. Point 4: Say that Glory faction and Heritage faction team up to try to lynch one of the Moderationers, in an attempt to balance out the factions once again. Glory and Heritage pool together 13 votes on Moderationer Molly. Moderation casts 8 votes for player B Once again, Discovery has 6 votes to play around with. There is a 5-vote spread between Molly and player B, so Discovery still has a lot of control over the vote, but there it's close enough that it is not a sure bet either way, thanks to things like arbiters, inactives, and action-blockers. If Molly is a true Moderationer, the Discoverers will probably just let the lynch go through on her. If we get lucky and Molly is actually a hidden Discoverer, then the Discoverers will probably throw their votes in and try to save Molly, because what do they have to lose? Conclusion: so, unless we ALL band together and try to lynch Discoverers as a group, the discoverers are going to control the vote. As the game progresses and more and more non-Discoverers die off, Discovery will gain even a bigger hold over the vote, and in the end it will be difficult if not impossible to stop them. Here is what I propose- feel free to debate it or propose alternatives if you wish to: Moderation Faction, you have the most members right now. Pick one of your own members who you suspect the most and let us know in the thread. Glory and Heritage factions, let's add our votes to Moderation's target in the hopes that we can eliminate a Discoverer. Next cycle, whichever faction has the most members does the same, and we repeat until we eliminate Discovery. Thoughts?
  13. Are you SURE that you are a svordish diplomat? The odds of discovering you are a svordish diplomat on the first cycle are only 1 in 3. I don't know who you scanned, but their are 3 possible outcomes, 2 of which could be valid: Say you are svordish, in the glory faction, and you scanned Harry, who is in the Heritage faction. Your result is randomly determined to be one of the following: 1. Harry scans as heritage, which is what you were expecting. As far as you know you are jindoese. 2. Harry scans as discovery- this could be true as well, since the whole point of the scans is to find discovery factioners. 3. Harry scans as Moderation. This is false, and in this case you would know that you were svordish. There is one other possibility too. Remember that scans happen after bribes. So if you scanned one of the players who was bribed last faction (Joe, Pixie, or Shallan), then you would have scanned them as belonging to their new faction. Now, all that being said, are you still sure you are svordish?
  14. Just pick whatever rollover time works best for you. The whole point of having cycles that last 24+ hours is that it gives everyone a chance to post/vote at some point during the cycle, no matter where they are in the world. I would much rather have a rollover time that was awkward for me, but convenient for the GM, because this will help ensure smoother and more reliable rollovers between cycles. Besides, with the setup of this game (all votes being made via PM) it shouldn't make much of a difference when during the cycle you vote or declare your actions.
  15. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5627-sanderson-style-elimination-general-rules/?p=273079 Why Thank you! I'm glad to hear it! I'm currently working on version 2 of the rules, now with added Balance! While I'm at it, are there any requests/suggestions for version 2 of the rules? Right now there is one MAJOR change I'm making, and I'm curious whether it will be well received or not. Elantris Rules 1.0 had a LOT of vote-manipulation roles, probably the most of any game to date. However, they barely saw any use. The current metagame strategy seems to be don't use vote manipulations if you're a villager or you know that your target is an eliminator. So with ER2.0, I'm thinking of dropping most of the vote manipulation stuff in favor for a coin earning/spending/investing mechanic. It felt appropriately thematic, since finances played such an important role in the politics in the book. Thoughts? Opinions?
  16. Hreo, the unlikely son of a Ffjordel father and an Arelonic mother, was always picked on and bullied growing up. So when he got old enough he decided that he'd show them a thing or two. He ran off to become a pirate and loot and plunder to his hearts content. But, much to Hreo's dismay, nothing really changed. Not until he finally learned to take a stand and made a name for himself. After that he served for many years as first mate to the Pirate Captain Riingar. Then, after a series of unfortunate events, Hreo lost contact with Captain Riingar and had to flee for his life. After an unlikely journey, which involved losing his lucky severed-hand, being thrown in Arelonian prison, breaking out of prison seconds before it burned to the ground, stealing a panda, stowing away aboad a Svordish ship, being stranded on the shores of a strange land with no companion other than the panda, and then riding said panda for leagues through the wilderness, he finally found himself in the Frozen Moon teahouse in MaiPon, glad to finally be able to take a break from all the chaos for a while. I love that so many people are transferring their characters over from my recent Elantris game. Jain- I assume the Panda you're portraying is this one here? I love it. Sign me up as Hreo. And since Kas has a tendency to break my games (not really his fault) I'll see if I can do the same to his game. Questions for Kas: Arbiter role: The flavor text says that each faction is led by 5 arbiters- does that mean that each faction in this game will have 5 arbiters or was that purely for flavor? Can the Arbiter change one lynch vote AND one transfer vote each cycle? or one lynch vote OR one transfer vote? Resealer: Can the resealer save someone from the lynch vote?Striker Captain: Can his "Death Before Failure" power be blocked by things like the Bloodsealer's ward or the Forger's Bureaucrat essence mark (things that prevent actions)?Forger: Bureaucrat Essence Mark: Does this prevent the target from casting votes as well? Or just taking other non-vote actions?Rememberer: Stamping someone into a Forger Okay, I think I understand how this works, but I want to run it past you in order to be clear: Say Forger Frank has died after using 2 essence marks. Rememberer Ronald creates a soul stamp from Forger Frank and uses it on Target Tim. The next cycle, Tim is a Forger, and has access to the 3 soulstamps that Frank didn't use. I assume Tim will be told which soulstamps are available. During that cycle, Tim can use one of the remaining essence marks on himself for that cycle. For example, he could use the Leader essence mark to give himself a double vote for that cycle, or a Hunter essence mark to make a kill. Right?Self-Destructing Faction Docs: Is there a reason you are deleting docs from previous cycles rather than just locking them? As their creator, you can easily go into the share settings and change it to "view only," which would allow players to reference them without editing them. This seems like a much cleaner option then allowing players copy the doc to their personal computers right before the rollover (and specifically those players whose time-zones and schedules allow them to. If you can't be online at rollover time that puts you at a distinct disadvantage over players who can).
