Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Herowannabe replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry I haven't been active much this cycle- I've been very busy with work and real life and most importantly- prepping to run a Mistborn Adventure Game session tomorrow with a new group. I just got caught up with the thread so far (although I still need to read a few pages from the night cycle. Apparently there was some plan for scanning Alvron?) Right now my biggest suspicions are Adavantos, for the same reasons Wyrm said- It's all too elaborate and unnecessary a scheme if you're telling the truth, and Hellscythe. It could just be that I'm not use to your play style, since this is the first game we've played together, but I get the vibe from your posts that you are actively trying to cover up and misdirect the village. And your challenges to the Eliminators and your IKYK game don't convince me. I play on an IKYKIK level. -

Kasimir As I've said in past games, I'm not a fan of poke votes that are labeled "poke vote." Typically the target just needs to respond in order to get the vote pulled, and very little info is gained. I'm also not a fan of votes where you spell out each and every reason why you find the target suspicious, because if the target is an eliminator you're telling them exactly which lies they need to tell to clear the suspicion on them. Anyway, in this case, my vote was different from either of those. I singled out Kas because he was one of the vocal players in the game and most of his advice (I disagree with village smokers using their powers this early in the game) was sound advice. I wanted to see how people would react- if people started bandwagoning, if anyone defended Kas, if people attacked me for my lack of stated reasons, etc. All of these help give us clues as to who is and isn't spiked. Information has been gained. Sorry to Kas for endangering his life. And to Hellscythe: no, I'm not a seeker, those I was indeed hinting that I might be. Again, to see how people would react. So Lurchers, don't waste your powers on me. Use them on someone you think is valuable enough to protect (honestly, that should probably be yourself, or maybe Wyrm if you think he deserves it). As for Eliminators, if you want to kill me tonight, bring it on. -

re: The Aggravating Amazing Wyrm: 2 points: 1. In all probability he IS a Tineye. But he might not be. He might simply be in collusion with someone else who is a Tineye and they're having a blast sowing all sorts of confusion and misdirection. It would be right up Wyrm's Alley. But for now lets assume that Wyrm really is a Tineye. 2. IMO there is a decent chance that he IS spiked, as well. He's explanations for his actions don't hold much water in a game like this. Too many possibilities for misdirection and ulterior motives. But whether Wyrm is or isn't spiked, we ought to leave him alive (for now). Why? Because Tineye is the ONE and ONLY role that an Eliminator can have that actually helps the Village instead of hurting it. Assume that Wyrm is an Eliminator Tineye. As long as he is alive we still get PMs, and if the Eliminators want to do anything about it they have to waste a kill on one of their own members. And it's not like the Eliminators get extra kills or benefits by having one more member alive. The only thing they get is one extra vote during the lynch, but our soothers/rioters can deal with that. So I say we leave Wyrm alive for now, and when we get to the endgame then we can lynch him, if the Eliminators or Coinshots haven't already done the job for us. -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss

Normally this would be the point in the game where I climb aboard my Contribution Crusade soapbox and begin hollaring at everyone, but with it being Christmas/Boxingday weekend I hardly think that's fair to anyone who hasn't had a chance to get involved with the game yet, so I'm going to hold off on that for now. If the Coinshots want to do as Wyrm suggested and start targeting inactives during the next night cycle, that sounds alright to me. That gives players 4 full days o get on and post something before getting branded "Inactive." As for suspicions, I have to place my vote for Kasimir for reasons. I'd also like to mention that I am coming down sick, possibly with strep throat, so don't expect too much from me the first few cycles. I'm still going to try to keep up with posts and votes but I won't be contributing much by way of analyses. -

how about we just all agree to not kill each other. What do you say Team Spiked? No? Drat. Alright it's 3:00am for me right now so I won't be posting much, but let me at least give advice to the two roles I've had before: Coinshots: if you're on team village don't start killing anyone yet. Taking random potshots in the dark is far more likely to kill a useful villager than to hit a Spiked. You should be waiting until you are certain your target is a spiked before you start shooting. Or if you can't wait that long then start by taking out inactives (Go go Gadget Contribution Crusade!). This will encourage the Spikeds to avoid hiding through inactivity. If you're a Coinshot on team Spiked then don't kill anyone. Ever. ;P Tineye: have fun with your messages and stay alive! I recommend hiding secret clues in your messages that you can use to verify your role later on if you need to (see my role in LG2 for how I did it- all my Tin messages are explained at the end of the game) Everybody: to repeat what Kas said before the game: TRUST NOBODY! Don't go around revealing your role, even if you're just a vanilla villager. It almost inevitably ends up in the Eliminator's hands and then they can use that info to pick their victims. Far better to let them take potshots in the dark than to spill your secrets just because the person you're PMing seems trustworthy. Edit: typo -

Rowan says hello. Well actually he doesn't. He probably just nods his head at Slart. Silent hunters and all. And this is a bit off topic, but why are hunters always silent? Why aren't there ever any chatty hunters? -

Well like I said over on steelministry.com, I'm sure we can arrange to have you killed off in the first cycle or two. I'm sure it won't take a lot of convincing to get people to lunch/assassinate you. -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Herowannabe replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Herwynbe stumbled in to the town, then brushed half heartedly at the ash and dust off of his travel robes. He looked up, surveying Tyrian Falls. He was no keeper, but still, the Synod had entrusted him with a sacred duty: It was his job to save this town. Just like it had been up to him to save the last town, and the one before that. He had failed. The towns had been swallowed up and consumed by their own ignorance and madness. Herwynbe took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Perhaps, this time would be different. Perhaps this time he could find a glimmer of wisdom and sanity in this town. Perhaps this town could be saved. And then, once that task was done, maybe the Forgotten Gods would have mercy on them and deliver them from the rampaging Koloss horde heading their way... Third time's the charm! Can't wait for this to start! -
I like the shades all voting to inspect 1 person the best. There's something odd about a game that gives you MORE power and ability once you die than what you had while you were alive.
-
I am also HUGELY in favor of a rerun of the original game as opposed to any other game, even though the reckoner game does sound fun. I am all for applying the anonymous accounts to the AG, too, if that can happen.

this is one time I feel absolutely no shame at all in saying, "I told you so!" Now that you've taken this step, might I also point out that Crafty Games has also gone to great lengths to make a gorgeous set of Mistborn-themed dice, designed with the MAG's nudge system in mind, where all of the 6s have been replaced by an allomantic symbol. They ran a Kickstarter for them earlier this year, and are just shipping the dice to backers right now. You can order a set of 10 dice, which includes one die featuring all of the physical and mental metals, plus one for Gold and Atium. I don't know how soon they'll be shipping them. Or, if you're really keen on getting a set that also includes the 3 Kickstarter exclusive dice (lerasium, duralumin, and Electrum), I may or may not know someone who got a little overzealous and funded the Kickstarter campaign for way more sets of dice than he needs, and might be willing to part with some of his extra sets once they arrive. Thanks to everyone who answered the questions posed to me. Re: Terris supplement and other supplements: Personally, I would start with just the core MAG book and give it a whirl before looking at any of the other supplements. If you find yourself wanting to start a campaign- or getting more info- dealing with Terris society or during the Alloy of Law era or etc, then you can pick them up. They're quite good for what they are, but they do tend to be, how shall I say... Less canonically accurate than the MAG itself.
-
I just want to pop in and point out to those that are considering playing that you can buy a digital version (PDF) of the MAG for $15, iirc. Well worth every penny. In addition to getting the rules for playing the game, you also get: - "The Eleventh Metal"- a short prequel story written by Brandon that gives you a peek at Kelsier shortly after the pits. -LOTS of excellent artwork by Ben McSweeny. All of his main character depictions are dead on except for Elend (IMO). -The treatise Metallurgic section of course has all the game-rules for the metallic arts, but is also an excellent resource for reminding yourself about things like which feruchemical metal lets you store nutrition and which metal lets you hemallurgically steal mental allomantic powers and etc. -The third section of the book, "Always Another Secret" is an incredibly useful resource for anyone who ever wants to GM an RPG game, whether using the MAG's system or a different one. -The whole book is peppered with suggestions and tips from Brandon himself. He had a lot of input in the game and how it works and it shows. Personally I think the book is a must have for any serious Mistborn/Brandon fan, even if you never play the game. Or you can just let McKeeDee tell you the rules. It's up to you.

Mid-Range Game 9: The Steel Ministry
Herowannabe replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Brandon confirmed somewhere that there were female inquisitors among the group that <redacted> had the big <redacted> with near the end of <redacted>. He just felt it would be distracting to draw attention to their gender. Also, I don't know if I'll be joining this game yet or just spectating.- 755 replies

Now I want to ask if Hoid has any hemallurgic spikes. -
Re: puppet master: An interesting idea, and has some merit, but there are two additional (potential) problems that I haven't seen mentioned yet: 1: when the puppet master dies- she can't still be controlling another role AND have access to the dead doc and the info that it contains. The solution is simple enough- when the puppet master dies don't give her access to the dead doc until her puppet player(s) bite the dust too. 2: While the puppet master helps solve the problem of what to do with inactive players, it also makes it easier for players to go inactive. The Pinch Hitter system had the exact same problem: "It doesn't matter if I leave the game since someone else will take over for me." However I commend (and up vote) you for the suggest. I belief that game design can go a long way towards preventing inactives. The best game designs seem to be those that give everybody something to do and reward players for participating. Claincy's QF4 with the Breath mechanics was an excellent example. Players had a good reason to participate since if they put in their dues and collected more Breaths they would be rewarded with additional powers and abilities.

Also if someone soothes me when I am trying to use a metal action, do I still lose a charge of metal?

Granted, but the portals open into completely random spots in the Solar system, leading to a very high probability that your closet door will open into the freezing nothingness of empty space. I wish for the power to consciously decide what I'm going to dream about right before I fall asleep. Best. Wish. Ever. -
Mid-Range Game 8: Highborn Intrigue
Herowannabe replied to Renegade's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Great game all, and surprisingly close! I enjoyed following it long after I died. In case anyone was and is still wondering, the Contribution Crusade was not a ploy or a trick or anything of the sort. It is something I'm firmly committed to. Imagine how different this game could have been if all the players had been active. As far as actual strategy goes, I decided pretty early on that I was going to play a reckless, risk taking game, knowing full well that I wasn't likely to survive long (I usually don't anyway). I pmed Wilson on day 1 fully with the intent to manipulate her and try to glean information. It was working beautifully (everything I said about our PMs was true- she told me she trusted me more than anyone else and revealed a handful of things to me) but after a few cycles I got paranoid that she was on to me and playing me, so I got Shallan to kill her. Anyway, after that I continued to play recklessly, posting a lot and being very vocal to draw attention to me while Shallan and Orlok laid low. They even told me there were going to start voting for me and I encouraged them to do so, to separate us and our play-styles as much as possible. And I feel like it worked very well. Anyway, thanks everyone who participated! And a big thanks to Renegade for GMing- the game was entertaining and (I feel) very well balanced, and the writeups were fantastic. The only suggestion I might make to Renegade (as well as to future GMs) is to limit the number of cycle-extensions you allow. This game basically turned into a Long Game since the majority of day cycle were extended to 48 hours. While I see and understand the need for the occasional cycle extension, players shouldn't be able to rely on them to allow for more discussion. Players ought to go into a game expecting the cycles to end on time and have all the discussions/votes/actions that they want to perform done before the deadlines. /rant But seriously, great game Renegade!- 911 replies

Not to be that guy, but Rubix: Isn't your sig too long by the new standards? If you look at it right now, your post is about 4-5 lines of text longer than the Only Joe's post right above you, and your sig extends well below your Rep Count.

Re: price of items: That's nearly impossible to determine without lots and lots of play testing. That's why I suggested an auction- it's a self regulating system. The more valuable an item is the more money people will bid to get it. Re: everything else: Sounds great!
-
@Winter: your game sounds... Amazing! seriously, I'm excited for it. One or two little things. As always, do with them as you will: First, "Pan." ... Meaning the item you can buy, not the action. (maybe you can already see my suggestion) I recommend changing the name of the "pan" item to something else to help distinguish it from the pan action. Even something like "bigger pan" or "super pan" would be better, but personally, I like changing it to "hiring a lurcher." Second: buying items. As you have the rules written now, you said that the prices of items will fluctuate depending on the amount of atium in the game, as determined by the GM. While that CAN work, it does create a bit of extra work for the GM, and opens the door for potential unbalances. Might I suggest changing it to a silent auction? Let players bid on what items they want, and that way the price will fluctuate and balance itself automatically. You can still keep the option of having the GM decide which items are up for auction each round, to allow for any course corrections that need to be made. (Edit: a good example of this was the grappling hook in QF2, which let you block someone's action the next cycle. The whole game it sold for about 2-4 coins each cycle, until the last round in which it became incredibly valuable and was purchased for 20 coins. The players' needs determined it's worth). And also, a couple questions: can you start a PM group with multiple people in it, or just one person (aside from you and the GM)? Can you open more than one PM at a time? Can you save items to use later? Can you stock up on multiples of one "item"? The reason I ask is because I can see some items potentially being abused. Ie: stocking up on a bunch of mercenaries or med kits, or hoarding a bunch of thieves or daggers and then robbing/killing everyone at the end game. Also, I just realized, that with the current rules there isn't much reason to buy the thief when you can buy the dagger and then kill and rob someone at the same time. I would probably get rid of the dagger altogether, as it hugely favors the Corporates, since they can use it to get multiple kills per night. Also you don't have any sort of seeker role or item. Is that intentional? And just to be clear on the actions: each cycle you can do the following: Cast a lynch vote Perform one and only one action (ie: buy an item, use an item, pan for atium, perform a corporation kill, etc. Right?
