  1. I saw Chaos' tweet about the best article on the coppermind and I have to agree. I laughed for a quite a while after reading it and had to make quick pic in honor of it.
  2. That's exactly what I pictured when I read that scene as well @ffnord
  3. No, sorry. I only saw at 550 when it had already changed but I'd guess it switched at 550 not 549. It looks like there's a gap of almost 200 between me and Moogle so I get to discover a lot of unknown ranks hopefully. Yay! Just gotta keep metacognition off my back. He's not allowed to host anymore elimination games. I know, was just kidding. Purposely misreading your comment of getting freaked out as that your were actually afraid of Ardents
  4. I've already posted these in other threads to get opinions on meaning/names for them but I'll go ahead and put them in here as well since this is kind of my official graphic design thread for cosmere related material. As always, clicking the picture links to the high quality png file and the hyperlink connects to an svg vector file. One of the art pages in WoR had some fighting moves with Alethi glyphs describing the actions. For reference, here is the art page: I don't know what they all mean, but here they are: We have also been long overdue for high quality renditions of the Herald symbols so I traced the images of them that were imprinted on the introductory pages for each Part in tWoK and WoR. Betab Chach Jez Kak Nan Shash
  5. We've gone too long without high quality renditions of the Herald symbols so I decided to trace the ones printed on the introduction page for each Part in tWoK and WoR. So far, there have been only 6 glyphs depicted on the introduction pages. If anyone knows where I might find a depiction of the other four glyphs it would be much appreciated so I can get them all finished up. Here is what I have so far. Clicking on the image links to a large png. The hyperlink connects to an svg vector file. Betab Chach Jez Kak Nan Shash I wasn't 100% sure which blades belonged to which Herald. What I listed above were my best guesses based on how similar they were to the KR order glyphs but if you think I have one mislabeled let me know. Also, If you'd like a photoshop file with all six glyphs, click HERE PS: Does anyone know if Isaac or Ben was the one that made the original designs for these?
  6. Why? Ardents are harmless
  7. The greater roshar system includes Roshar, Braize (Odium's Home World), and Ashyn (where Silence Divine, the book referenced by cheeky, takes place). I'd checkout the coppermind for shardworlds in both published and unpublished works.
  8. Lol. Yeah, I was just about to inform you before I saw your PS that inkthinker is Ben McSweeney so you might just want to ask him which ones were which. Edit: on that note, inkthinker, can you provide any feedback on my guesses at the glyph meanings on that page? I'd also really love to know what the red stamp means
  9. I just passed King's Wit and became Lord Prelan. From the life of the party to a boring tattoo face bureaucrat. At least this means I get to boss around all those people in the sixties and eighties who are obligators and regular prelans right?
  10. Storm it! I was King's Wit this morning before I got a chance to logon and see it.... Now I'm not. So sad. On a related note @fnord you can add Lord Prelan for 550
  11. I haven't done any graphic design work for the forum in a while so decided to finish up tracing the glyphs on the fighting guide art page. I'm not sure what to name each of them and don't want to just name them "fighting guide 1", "fighting guide 2", etc. Thought this might be the best group to get ideas from. as a reminder, here is the page I'm working from: Based on the predominant votes I'm assuming this is a guide for windstance, yes? So, based on the page, I would guess the glyph in the first picture stands for "windstance", the second glyph for "parry" or "block" and the third picture is a "riposte". The fourth large glyph in the bottom picture could mean "victory" or "success" if those are all performed correctly maybe? I'm not sure what the second large glyph on the top right would stand for if the first large one is windstance itself. Perhaps it says windstance guide or some such? My thoughts: = windstance = Guide/Manual = Parry/Block = Riposte = Victory/Success Any alternative ideas for what these could mean? On another note, any ideas what the red stamp could be at the bottom right? Is that something the person who "recovered" the page stamped on it? Maybe just a stamp by say the vorin church or some such organization approving the guide? It looks a little like the Dustbringer glyph but definitely different.
  12. That's impressive Brandon can read minds now. He didn't even have to ask what you thought was native to the spiritual realm, he just knows.
  13. "Quietly Dependable"?"Theory Smasher"? "Uber Troll"? "THE Right Hand"? "The God Beyond"?
  14. I also asked him in a slightly different manner, "Were the heralds born on Roshar?", as Kurk said, RAFO
  15. Actually, most of us were pretty convinced he was Taln until Brandon started hinting that he might not be who we think he is anytime someone asks about Taln. He might just be trying to one up Peter's trolling but the speculation does have some WoB backing.
  16. I always assumed they were Larkin as well, which are Arthropods with wings. Seems to fit the description pretty well, as does having them "eating" a surgebinder on the chart. I expect, based on the Lift and Rysn interludes, they will play an important role.
  17. The Releasers (dustbringers)
  18. There's been debate about that second chart but no solid information. The two predominant theories are that it is a voidbinder chart or that it is a magic system based on Cultivation (since a female is depicted on the edges). The best thread to look at is probably this one: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5074-its-not-a-voidbinding-chart/?p=83306
  19. Great, now I'm gonna picture jack every time I read that line. You might want to put spoiler tags on the lightbringer stuff. That's two really huge spoilers.
  20. He said the last chapter is hinted at in various places in the two written books, the chants were not mentioned specifically (unless there is another WoB I missed). It sounded more like there are various hints here and there that add up rather than one epigraph that tells the ending.
  21. I am not sure if there will be an actual in world reference to it but Weiry's answer is correct. Brandon touched on that a little at the Houston signing when he discussed his reasons for changing the title of the second book from The Book of Endless Pages to Words of Radiance (obvious reasons). His original intent was for each of the books to be titled after an in world book such as the first two have been so far. That's where he got the idea for calling it an archive.
  22. We as of yet have no confirmation that humans can't bond voidspren and parshendi can't bond radiant spren. When asked about parshendi bonding radiant spren, Brandon quite notedly avoids saying no and instead usually says that parshmen were not traditionally made radiants. Sounds to me that he is leaving the door open for that to change, perhaps Eshonai or Rlain actually becoming a radiant at some point.
  23. But what if worldhopping for that worldhopper could only be possible if that worldhopping prequel introduced the worldhopper's discovery of worldhopping through a cosmic worldhopping accident?
  24. I imagine what he meant was that Shallan said at least two truths plus the first oath when she was a child in order for pattern to have become a shardblade. In tWoK and WoR she has said at least two more so should be a full radiant but lying to herself about killing her parents caused her to regress so some of the recent truths only raise her to level 4. I was certain already being bonded to the stormfather was why he was the one getting the visions. Glad there is now at least a little backing for my theory. That is really interesting. Guess it makes more sense though for the idea rather than words to create a bond with a cognitive entity. It's possible this is just Brandon's way of covering himself for changing the wording of oaths he has mentioned but hasn't put in print yet
