  1. Hm... I'll be working 12 hours on saturday and at a golf tournament all day sunday so might be a bit absent the first day cycle. Please don't kill me for being inactive Promise I'll be back in full elimination mode after the weekend.
  2. You missed Harakake at 2.24/post
  3. I also started out at a really young age with the Narnia books but my love of reading waned in middle school and early high school due to all the boring "classic" crap they force you to read at that age. Dickens might be a great writer but he puts me to sleep. When Enders's game came around, though, I remembered why I loved reading. Science Fiction was the bulk of my reading for a while after that with the Ender's Game/Shadow Series and Dune still being some of my favorites. A year or so later, while replaying Baldur's Gate on the PC, I was walking through the bookstore and saw the covers for Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy and thought, "Hey, that's the Drizzt fellow that kicks everyone's chull when you put in a cheat code". So, I picked up the book and ended up reading straight through about twelve of the Drizzt books. They weren't exactly high literature but they were fun and piqued my interest in the freedom of imagination in fantasy. I've since learned there is much better fantasy but Salvatore's Forgotten Realms books will always hold a special place for reintroducing me to my love for fantasy, which is probably 3/4 of what I read now.
  4. There's really no need for a thread. All the necessary riffing (sporking) can be found on the Eregon-Sporkings website. There is even a drinking game to go along with the chapter by chapter bashing. It's a really entertaining read as are some of the other books they spork on the site.
  5. I'm having troubles finding a quote from Brandon saying exactly "Lift will have a book" but he has stated that she will be very important in the later books on several occasions. Some of those statements can be found on This Thread. There are also a few similar quotes in the Words of Brandon thread I think. Whether she gets a flashback book or not I think is uncertain (unless I'm not seeing a WoB) but she will definitely be a major player.
  6. Haven't seen the new movie but gonna have to go with Rooster on the books. I thought the first one was alright but lost all interest half way through the second. My sister didn't like how the whole series ended so I think I'll wait till all the movies are all out and there is feedback on how they are as a whole before I decide to watch them or not.
  7. Dang it! why did I have to work all weekend and miss that? I'm back to being stuck partly in the spiritual realm.
  8. I regretted sitting out on the last game so I'll definitely be joining back up this time. Probably gonna have to read through the rules a few times before things get going. It'll be a very different game than the previous eliminations with the new roles. Summon is my name and I'm the quickest messenger in town. If you need a verbal message, letter, or parcel delivered in record time, I'm your man. I'm never late and almost always on time.
  9. You should definitely pickup the Blinding Knife Argent. I liked it even better than the first book. While I love brandon, and the magic systems in Mistborn and Stormlight are some of my favorites by far, I'm gonna have to give the prize to Weeks on the color magic. I found the Lightbringer magic a lot more interesting than Warbreaker's.
  10. 650 = Shade (Confirmed change point) No sudden movements everyone. You won't like me when I'm angry.
  11. It was the Houston signing on March 11th
  12. Outstanding books. If you like Brandon's world building, magic systems, and action I'd definitely recommend the lightbringer series. Weeks' work is nearly as good. Now that WoR is checked off, the third lightbringer book is the next highest one on my eager anticipation list.
  13. I like the wave particle aspect of the theory but you might want to rework the idea that it is native to the Spiritual Realm. Brandon agrees is has a stronger spiritual aspect than any of the other realms but I wouldn't go so far as to say thats where it comes from.
  14. More or less but that's mostly speculation (albeit based on good reasoning) and I was just trying to layout the basic idea for why he mentions 30 magics when we only see around 10 so far.
  15. I had you all the way down at like 835 and still shardbearer. I was feeling really bad about it though so upvoted you back up. If you change at 850, I can almost guarantee the shardbearer change was at 825. They seem to be changing in multiples of 25 at this level.
  16. Does that look of his involve raising his eyebrows? and do you blush in embarrassment when he does it?
  17. The symbols for the various metals changes between the various books as long spans of time in the world passes. So, for instance, the allomancy chart from The Final Empire is different than the one in Alloy of Law because hundreds of years have passed and the stylistic design of each symbol has evolved. They have the same basic shape, just stylized differently. They are also represented differently by different cultures in the world. The Terrismen have a different set of symbols than the Final Empire's. So, for your tattoo, you'd have to decide on what time period of Scadrial you'd want to represent or which culture's alphabet you want to use. Edit: the symbols from the ars arcanum in the first mistborn series are the most common ones represented though so probably your best choice if you want it to be widely recocnized as Lerasium. These symbols:
  18. I agree we'll likely eventually have more than one member of each order but I wouldn't base it on the Darkness/Szeth example since darkness is a herald (not the same as a KR) and Szeth isn't technically a traditional skybreaker. Sanderson has already stated that Lift will have a book dedicated to her in the second half of the series so its a pretty safe bet she'll be a Radiant. He has also said that many of the significant interlude characters (like Rysn) will be more prominent in the last five books as well.
  19. Exactly. In mistborn we were only introduced to allomancy at first. Later feruchemy was explained and then in the third book we learned about how hemalurgy worked. We'll likely get a slow progression of knowledge like that in stormlight.
  20. The chart on the inside of the tWoK cover is a demonstration of this. Linked below: The large colored glyphs are each order of surgebinder and the black glyphs are the surges they have access to. You can see each order is connected to two surges which combine to make the abilities that order can use. Edit: So far we haven't been fully introduced to the other two systems but There are three Shards present, or have been present, on Roshar. Honor, Cultivation, and Odium so we expect each have their own magic system with ten "orders" Don't feel like you are missing something. We only know about the 30 different magics because of a WoB. If you didn't know about that you'd only know about the knight's radiants and maybe voidbinders.
  21. 3080... just can't get past a willshaper.
  22. I'm not sure that's exactly what that ideal is trying to portray. It's not so much "remembering" people who have actually been forgotten, but rather taking care of the people who have been overlooked or seen as not important, the forgotten and needy of society. Nalan says the Edgedancers were always thinking of the small details as opposed to the big picture. Brandon could theoretically use the lost memory of shshshshsh as related to that ideal but I personally don't think it really fits the intent. Adolin's fighting skills and refinement do fit what we know about what an edgedancer should be like though.
  23. "I need you to be some fire for me. It's pretty cold out here." "I am a stick" -waves a hand over the stick- "These aren't the droids..." -cough- "I mean... you are fire." "I... am... a stick!" "Hm, a stick really should be too weak minded to resist... wait, I'm in the wrong universe again!"
  24. Speaking of coincidences Chaos didn't plan for, I just noticed ghostbloods become the king's tester (unless there is another rank in there we haven't seen). That doesn't bode too well for Elhokar's meals.
  25. Don't worry. It seems major life changes happen more often than they used to so I'm sure things will be on the up and up for you soon.
