Except he's decreasing his weight, not his mass, otherwise his density would change, which it doesn't.

Didn't Preservation stash part of Ruin's power as Atium? Now that Harmony is both, he should be able to just keep the power, and so prevent the atium from reforming. Also, the Pits were always adjacent to the Homeland.

I suspect the degradation is built into Hemalurgy, with it being Ruinous and all that. Harmony might be able to slow it? but probably not stop it.

Question from a confused person. Did Paalm have one spike (the silver+red one), or two spikes in her (silver+red, and a Harmony spike)? If she just had one spike, did that spike just give her full Twinborn powers, then? Since she uses speed and steelpushes and so forth. Do we ever see her actually changing spikes by falling on them, like MeLaan mentioned?

My first reaction was, Brandon Sanderson, you sadistic SOB. That pretty much summarizes my entire set of feels about this book!

With Hoid running around, and the enmity between Hoid and Bavadin, I wonder if Hoid brought the metal to Scadrial, and Bavadin is mad at him for stealing some of his power.

This is what I'm thinking as well. That forcing Paalm to "die" to send Wax back to Elendel, when she wanted him to stay with her in the Roughs is probably what turned her against Harmony. I kind of think Harmony made a bad call in not telling Wax about Lessee when they were having their conversations. I think he would have eventually found out (which he did) and now he hates Harmony pretty badly. I wonder if any of that is the Harmony part influencing Sazed? Sazed was pretty much against withholding information, iirc? But he's been holding Harmony for a long time now. Maybe the Preservation portion was pushing him to keep the status quo-i.e. let Wax keep thinking that Lessee was dead.

Moggle and I were discussing this, and wondering if Hoid was somehow managing to listen in on the conversation between Wax and Harmony. Another Shard's influence on Scadrial would definitely draw Hoid's interest. I wonder if Hoid is going to try and steal the spike, or maybe if he's the one who gave it to Paalm?

I don't see a thread on this yet. Ebook version Chapter 6, paragraph 3, second line: "To begin with he paid their wages..." There should be a comma after "with."

Or it could be Hoid and his Yolish Lightweaving?

It's what they call the time when the Epic first gets their powers. They go a little mad, and tend to kill everyone around them if they possibly can.

Wow I don't remember most of them. I'll update tomorrow.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how that would help with third-book speculation?

I'd guess there are other ways for Epics to be gifters, but the method Regalia was talking about was cutting out part of the Epic.

Thank you Brandon, I can sleep now [Not Really a Spoiler...]

Wow, that was a great metaphor! *types it into phone* I was trying to go for simple. Edit: David actually manages a few good metaphors (or similes) in the books, so he's not ALWAYS bad at them -

A simile is a comparison made using the words "like" or "as." A metaphor compares them without using either of those two words. So, a simile would be, "That object is like an apple." A metaphor would be "That object is an apple." (apple shaped, tasting, etc)
