He's not a Returned. Nale apparently has a Regrowth fabrial that managed to Heal Szeth before his soul was completely gone (although it was close, as you can tell from the afterimage he leaves behind). We don't know yet how he got Nightblood. There are some conflicting WoBs that say Vasher lost Nightblood before/after he got to Roshar, so it's unclear. We'll hopefully get some answers in Nightblood the book, and Brandon has promised that we'll find out what happened someday.

Nightblood isn’t an Honorblade and isn’t the sword he’d been wielding up to the end of WoR. NB also doesn’t grant surges. The honorblade Szeth had been wielding was Jezrien’s and predated NB by several millennia. Kaladin recovered that one and gave it to Dalinar. Nale resurrected Szeth and gave him NB in the same scene at the end of WoR.

You should read warbreaker before WoK imo

A rather odd theory/question too large to put here.
RShara replied to Shallan's Ward's question in Cosmere Q&A
Yeah, theoretically it would work. -

Theoretically, but that rewrite seems like it would be hard, due to plausibility. How likely would it have been for his ancestors to have moved to Arelon? -
It's fine to use intent. We all do Just understand that it's different than Intent, which Brandon uses for specific purposes.

It's just a timeline issue. Warbreaker takes place between Hero of Ages and Stormlight Archive. Alloy of Law takes place during or just after the gap between the two SA arcs. there's 341 years in between HoA and AoL. So there's about 300 years between HoA and SA, which means there's less than 300 years between WB and SA. The Manywar takes place about 300 years before Warbreaker. Aharietiam took place 4500 years before WoK. Humans arrived on Roshar long before that. The Heralds can't be the 5 Scholars.

Ooh that's a complicated question. So the humans came from Ashyn to Roshar. At some point, the Desolations, dead Singers with powers possessing live Singers, started occurring. Ishar went to Honor and proposed the Oathpact. Ten of them would go to Braize, and with their presence, seal the dead Singers to that planet. Honor agreed, and presumably, set it up so that they were Invested with enough power not to die of old age, and perhaps gave them other powers as well. Unfortunately, they didn't anticipate the torture, and the fact that, powerful as they are, the Heralds are still people. And while some types of beings are unable to break their sworn words, people aren't among them. So the Heralds broke during their torture, each of them in turn, except for Taln. Each time they broke, the dead Singers' spirits were able to return to Roshar, possess live Singers and start a Desolation. After hundreds or thousands of years of this, nine of the Heralds decided that they couldn't take it any more, and abandoned their Oaths, except for Taln. They lied to humanity, told them that they had won, and called it Aharietiam. In reality, it was just the end of another Desolation, and nothing in particular was different, other than that only one of them went back to Braize. At some point, Honor started to die. He started going mad, raving about how the Radiants would destroy Roshar just like they did Ashyn. This, combined with their realization that they were the invaders on Roshar (I believe this happens every generation or so of Knights, but that Honor usually counseled them through it) made them decide they were too dangerous to stay as Knights. (I also believe that the spren were in on the decision, and willingly sacrificed themselves so that the surviving spren would be too angry to be willing to bond others in the future, but this is pure speculation on my part). This led to the Recreance. Thousands of years later, events moved to enable the Fused to return again and start a new Desolation. Does that make sense?

Brandon's just said that it's *really hard* to revive a dead spren without its original bondholder. He's also RAFO'd whether Maya will be revived.

Right, but if the Radiant acts in a way contrary to how they view the oaths should be, then they would start to lose their powers. The Radiant would also have to convince their spren that they're acting in accordance to their Ideals. Windrunners and honorspren seem pretty constricted. But Skybreakers and Dustbringers and Lightweavers, I would say, get a much looser interpretation. I don't think the Lightweavers get to be much more unfettered than Dustbringers.

Malata would like to have a chat with you We don't know their Oaths, but Malata seems pretty unfettered.

We don't know how many of the orders behave. We've only got decent perspectives on 5 out of 10 (Bondsmith, Windrunner, Lightweaver, Edgedancer, Skybreaker). Dustbringers, WillShapers, Stonewards, etc, are still completely mysteries to us. But Dustbringers, at least, sound pretty unmoderated, as well.

As I said, it was an impression. I don't insist on it.

The way Teft talks about her when they interact. It makes it sound like she's the tall powerful spren. She seems smarter and wiser and more mature than Syl. Rock sees Phenadora And Teft seeing her:

I got the impression that the spren who bonded Teft was Syl's aunt.

And the one that bonded to Teft. Her name was Phendorana.

What did the Shaod do before Elantris was built?
RShara replied to coredumperror's question in Cosmere Q&A
So I'm pretty sure (at least in my head) that this is likely. Some people in each region have some natural inclination toward being channels for the Dor. They could have been madmen who were cracked enough to sense it, or whatever. They started experimenting and other people followed suit, eventually. They slowly started figuring out Aons. But they were very very low power and required a lot of intense study. Very likely similar to how Forgery was developed (anyone can do Forgery but it requires a lot of study and practice but it is very low investiture). So eventually, some geniuses among them realized they could focus and exponentially increase their power by building Elantris. They could also build into it a way to channel the Dor into making them immortal, and perfect channels for the Dor. They likely knew how it worked well enough that they could all be Elantrians. So they built Elantris and continued their study and development of their sciences. At some point, something happened. They all disappeared or ascended or went through the shardpool, whatever. Years pass and the second wave of Arelish people arrive and settle around Elantris. Once their Connection grew strong enough, they started converting to Elantrians as well. And so on and so forth. I don't know if this is accurate, but it makes sense to me.
