  1. Yep. (There's also the fact that Love is a separate Shard, so how can he be Passion without Love? And Brandon saying Odium is inherently selfish, and saying that "Hatred, and that which provokes Hatred apply to the Shard with that name.")
  2. Yep. 3 Breaths every year or two is far better than 52 Breaths a year
  3. (Please use paragraphs and proper sentences. Also, if you have further thoughts after you've hit Post, please Edit that post, instead of making two in a row.) Yes, the Spiritual Realm is where almost all investiture resides, including the bulk of a Shard's power. Ruin would not be able to create by himself because the power would fight him and he'd end up accomplishing very little. There are ways to "hack" every magic system to use a different type of investiture to power it. Hacking allomancy is extremely hard, per Brandon. There are ways for other Shards to create their versions of Returned (i.e. Fused, Heralds, etc). They wouldn't function exactly the same, since it's different investiture. Whether Endowment would Return a non-Nalthian? I find it unlikely, unless the person managed to hack it so that they had enough Connection to Endowment to pull it off, and Endowment decided they would make a good Returned. There are a number of WoB on this matter if you'd like to look at them on Arcanum: https://wob.coppermind.net/ The Allomancer wouldn't be able to access the stormlight unless they've somehow hacked the magic system to allow them to use the stormlight, or had a Nahel bond in place.
  4. Here is a relevant WoB on the issue:
  5. Well we DO Have Love as its own Shard, for sure. That's been confirmed for a while. I would dare say that it's because Love and Hate are diametrically opposed and are two of the very strongest emotions. The ones most often personified and identified as driving forces.
  6. I feel like assigning a pattern to the Shards when we only know of 10/16, plus we don't know how much of their intents are from the Vessel and how much are from the Shard, is going to be inherently flawed. Plus, I disagree with you on several assumptions and definitions (such as love or devotion being a meditative calm...) Odium is about as simplistic as Devotion, and we know Devotion is Love. We've had this discussion, with WoBs about how the definitions of the word Odium apply to the Shard Odium, and how Odium is by its nature, selfish. And that Ruin would be a good match for Odium. And that, given Love is its own Shard, in order for Odium to be Passion, it would have to be Passion missing Love. So I won't go further into those, other than to say I vehemently disagree that Odium is Passion.
  7. There's so much creativity here But I think the easiest solutions are the best. Ultrasonic would knock people unconscious easily enough, even cause brain damage or death, and should be easy/low energy to produce. Or sonic booms to rupture eardrums. For spying, I don't think actual invisibility would work too well because it would need to constantly change. But an illusion of a rock or a wall, or a pit where you're standing (you're standing on solid ground against a tent or something, but others see a pit and so walk around you) should work pretty well. And an illusion of black/gray mottling would do a lot for sneaking around at night.
  8. Okay...technically it is possible, but extremely unlikely, for both plot and meta reasons.
  9. Yes? I'm not sure what your point is? Not all forms of accessing the Spiritual Realm give the same effects?
  10. I don't see how
  11. Correct. A KR's Shardplate would not affect the uses of his own surges, but would interfere with surges used on him or her by someone else.
  12. Kinda.
  13. Wow I completely misread everything. Oh well. I just have no brain power right now.
  14. Yeah what Cal and The One Who Connects said. The Rhythms are a manifestation of the Spiritual Realm. They aren't an empathic connection to each other. You can attune a Rhythm you don't feel or that's completely opposite to what you're feeling, really. And they're not a waveform, as far as we know. Certainly not an electromagnetic one that could be affected by Lightweaving. At most, they're an emphasis to their speech, not an empathis (Couldn't resist, sorry).
  15. How's it going so far? Got a good recorder going?
  16. Ah-Choo! Hey I CAN FLY!
  17. Okay, so what is your definition of "mind controlled"? Were thoughts and actions directly inserted into her head so that she had no control or sense of self at all? No. Was she being forced against her essential self into actions that she would not normally do, by an outside influence? To the point where she betrayed her people and everything that she believed in? Absolutely yes. Her thoughts and emotions were twisted to the point of breaking. She had no choice in what she was doing. You could hear her true self screaming and fighting against the actions of her controlled body and thoughts. I think this fits the definition of mind controlled sufficiently to say that yes, she was being controlled.
  18. Any culture that subjugated and enslaved another one, basically. It seems closer to Native Americans, honestly. Europeans were granted lands, broke their treaties, invaded and took over the entire landmass and treated the remaining natives horribly.
  19. There's a pretty interesting discussion of this going on in the OB forum
  20. I don't remember the Stormfather saying that. Can you quote/cite it? Also, another Shard getting involved on Roshar is unlikely. We already have 3 of them wandering around. A fourth would just make things really messy.
  21. There are several threads about Dalinar in the subforum, though, so at least you have some options

    Hoid

According to Brandon, the time between the Shattering and the Prelude to the WoK where the Heralds broke the Oathpact was 6000 years. WoK takes place 4500 (Rosharan) years later. So we're at about 10,900-11,000 in the Cosmere timeline. There are people on Yolen who were functionally immortal before the Shattering took place. Frost is one of them, and I believe he is older than Hoid, even. And he does not have a Shard. All of the Vessels, of course, pre-date the Shattering. Wit implies that he's around the same age as Cultivation, anyway. We don't have any proof that Hoid has any amount of power like you're speculating. He does not hold a Shard, and several beings in the Cosmere, Odium included, could rip him apart. He is crafty and old, and could have gained immortality any number of ways, but given that he has things he fears, there's no way he's more powerful than Adonalsium. The WoB about a plot to shatter Adonalsium doesn't really say much at all. You can guess any number of things from it, it doesn't mean any of them are true or even inferred via the published works that we have.

    Hoid

Hoid is afraid of Odium, so I doubt he's all powerful.
  24. I believe @Jofwu is working on something like this?
  25. Since Vasher as Zahel has been on Roshar for some time, there's no problem with Returned worldhopping. As for Radiants, they would have to figure out how to get their spren off Roshar, since it's hard for them to leave the area where their investiture dominates. Brandon has said that each series is meant to be self contained, so worldhoppers aren't going to play a significant role in Stormlight Archive. They will pop up and have some interactions, but will be cameos and easter eggs. Kaladin doesn't have the right innate investiture to become a Returned. If Kaladin were seriously injured and didn't have access to stormlight, Vasher could use his Divine breath to heal Kaladin, then die. That wouldn't make Kaladin a Returned, though. It would just heal him and kill Vasher.
