  1. I haven't read Calamity, and won't get a chance to read Calamity anytime soon, so I'll just toss this out to you guys: Was anything revealed that makes Sentry unusable? (Granted, Salem is so early that I could basically reboot her whole character right now, but still..)
  2. So, in the random thread, Kaymyth mentioned she worked as a boss at her work; the kinda boss that you run into at the end of the first dungeon in a video game, before moving onto tougher bosses. Naturally, I will take this comment too far. So. Let's spitball idea's here, guys. What would the 17th Shard Video Game be like?
  3. So, does that mean when the team makes it to the final dungeon, they start running into you as a standard encounter? Because you popping out at them every five steps sounds kinda funny.
  4. Uh. We do? But I'm not getting paid it. 12 hours is the standard shift for this job, six to six.
  5. Thanks! I admit, 12 hour shifts? Hard to get used to. And I'm getting nothing done on my days off... But still! It's awesome!
  6. Well... my job's probation period is over. I still have my job. In fact, I got a (very minimal) raise, and my number of hours this week has jumped from 18 to 48. On the one hand, I still haven't read Bands, so I need to get started on Calamity. On the other hand, YES. WORK AND MONEY. SO HAPPY.
  7. "Offering a job strikes me as somewhat presumptous on your part," Sentry added, her tongue clicking with disapproval. Of course, how else could he have done it? Strictly speaking, he probably should have presented the woman to Soulcaster first, informed him of her gifts before offering her work...but Soulcaster would probably kill him for interrupting his debauchery. What use was a beauracracy that actively worked against itself half the time? She sighed, shKing her head. "I expect better, particularly in matters like this. Security is my purview, and ignorance is not an excuse. That this young girl has committed the most egregious-" She suddenly stopped, frowning. "...The fact that this girl has committed the second most egregious fault to our security today means she should have been brought to me, not hand cuffed to your car. Incidently," she added with a smile, "it's a very nice car. "Now then. You two have introduced yourselves, it's time I did the same." She returned her smile to the younger epic. "Heartsleeve, wasn't it? My name is Sentry. Welcome to Salem."
  8. Well, I kinda meant mode in general 'Did I do wrong?'...though a few days between replies is really nothing compared to the hiatus it just had. (Incidently, my work is picking up so...wanna officially confirm that Sentry and Salem are gonn be my only Reckoners games.)
  9. He! Is the the immortal lawman of Tyrest! She! Is the alicorn princess of friendship! Together! They are going to enforce the rules and conquer their OCD so much. ...Yeah, I've been reading some Transformer comics lately, and Ultra Magnus is freaking awesome. I mean, I already liked the guy, but then he started talking about how wearing your insignia crooked should be a punishable offence, and how much he was looking forward to months of intensive studying, and I realized... "...Huh. He sounds like Twilight. I shall dub them " Ultra Sparkle".
  10. I... I might have a crossover crack pairing. What am I supposed to do with it? Look for fan fiction/art of it? Make fan fiction/art of it? Look it away and never speak of it again?
  11. ...I'm. Sorry. Did I do something wrong in Salem?
  12. You guy's have no idea how frustrating it is to see this topic on the board and not click the spoilers. Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends start again in March in the UK. From the reactions I've seen here -and other sites- i think it should be a fun time.
  13. I don't suppose anyone has started or home brewed Sanderson stuff for Pathfinder, have they? (Granted, from what I understand, Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 are very similar, but still...)
  14. The impression I get from the trailers is that Lex is manipulating/encouraging the situation. He certainly seem's to be gloating when he gives his "Greatest Gladiator match" comment to Lois......which, actually, makes me wonder how much of a chessmaster this Lex might be. If he -is- encouraging the brawl as I suspect, maybe his line in the previous trailer about bringing Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent together has deeper significance... Granted, Lex knowing Batman and Supes' identities would be a big change, but...
  15. I... don't think we have an actual topic for this? Which goes to show just how badly the DC Cinematic Universe has been managed, and how apathetic audience reaction to the trailers has been. ...Which is why this trailer is such an improvement. Cool action, good editing, a nice guitar in the background... I'm still not convinced this is going to be a great movie, but at least it look's like it could be a fun action film, if nothing else. Honestly, the worst part of this trailer is the emphasis on Batman -necessary, since this is his establishing movie for the DCU- and the fact that it's being forced to do damage control after the last trailer they released.
  16. I'll preface this by saying, I haven't read anything of Bands of Mourning or Secret History yet... But while Feruchemy seem's generally safer, I'm sure that abusing that system could produce some side-effects. Wayne has to be sick to store up health, doesn't he? So, if he just tap's metals to cure himself, couldn't that cause trouble for his immune system? Granted, that's wild speculation on my part, and Feruchemy is certainly safer, in that individuals seem less likely to kill themselves by accident while using it... but most of the characters we've seen using it (Sazed, Wax) have had Terris traditions regarding not flat-out breaking the system drilled into them. I imagine it's possible to kill yourself using Feruchemy it's just probably extremly difficult, to the point where doing so could probably be classified as suicide because you went out your way to outright break the system.
  17. I'd actually contest this, to be honest. Yeah, allomancy has mostly been used for combat... but then, it's been put in the hands of criminals, freedom fighters, and sherrif's. The point of views we see are those which are more naturally inclined to use it in martial situations. ...Not to mention the simple point of 'human nature'. We know that Scadrian's will develop FTL in the duture, and -we assume- allomantic shenanigans will be responsible for that. So... just because we haven't seen allomancy used for creative purposes so far doesn't mean it will never be. The Wax/Wayne era is probably the first chance allomancy has had a chance to actually be more than 'just a knife', since it's a (relatively) stable period of time without a Dark Lord looming over everything enforcing the status quo... but we're following a character whose job requires the more destructive applications of allomancy than someone else might. I imagine as the Mistborn era's develop, we'll start seeing more of allomancy being used to build, rather than to destroy.
  18. (I swear I didn't come to this thread to post ponies, but c'mon. Kobold set it up perfectly!)
  19. "It doesn't work on epics? That's unfortunate." The chipper, upbeat voice came from behind the pair. Sentry marched towards the vehicle, hands clasped behind her back. Despite the bright tone, her expression was anything but, her short-clipped blonde hair framing a face which was... well, if not frowning, then certainly expressing very severe disapproval. "Yes," she added, "quite unfortunate." She focused her sight on Countdown. "It means that this young girl is entirely unrelated to how disappointed I am in you."
  20. I think it might have been misread. I admit, when I looked at the post, I thought it sounded like Glyff was saying that Countdown 'nodded subserviently'. Looking at it again, Heartsleeve was the one doing it; but my guess is that, considering her emotional manipulation, it was misread. ...by the way, should I have Sentry arrive on scene, or do you guys want to talk a bit?
  21. Um. Yeah. Sorry for absaloute non-sequitar Salem post.
  22. Alternative titles: 'Through a Cosmere Darkly', 'Broken Cosmere'. I'm a HUGE fan if mirror universe AU's, so I was curious; what do you guys think a Cosmere mirror universe would look like? For anyone unfamiliar with the concept...the mirror universe was popularised in the original Star Trek series, though it had appeared in works before that. The conceit is, simply, that the "normal" universe is reversed. Usually, this is simplified as "Good is Evil, Evil is Good". A hero in the regular universe (eg: Kirk) is a villain in the mirror universe (Mirror!Kirk). Other writers actually do more than just morality flips. For instance, Superman get's weaker through exposure to Kryptonite; his mirror counterpart, Ultraman, get's his powers by snorting Kryptonite like cocaine. So... Suppose the Cosmere had a mirror universe counterpart. What do you guys think it would look like, and what would familiar faces look like in it?
  23. Was it odd, that the main point in Salem's favor was also the main drawback to it? Sentry considered the question idly as she marched down the street. She did so often. Salem was like an oasis in the desert of the Fractured States. Anything that was needed, Soulcaster's powers provided. But... Soulcaster's. Salem's greatest strength, and it's greatest drawback. For all the power he wielded, he seemed content to just sit back, and encourage ever-more escalating chaos in his arena. It was an effective outlet, true, and confining the murderous rages to the ring meant some measure of stability for the town. Soulcaster's himself seemed disinterested in ruling...which, if nothing else, had created decent opportunities for those who managed to find their way into government. Still... it was frustrating. Salem existed -which was more than most cities could say these days- but it could be so much more. All it needed was the right hands at the helm...
  24. I'm sorta, vaugeky, half-heartedly tossing around a theory that Voidspren are just spren that have been tarred by the Recreance, the same way the Knight Radiants have. (Which means the Knight Radiants ARE the Voidbringers, but...like I said. Very half-heartedly. But it would explain why a Radiant has surges that are associated with Voudbinding, if it's really nothing but a cultural thing...)
  25. Something I've been thinking about lately, and curious what your thoughts are. Is it poor form to base a character on a picture? Lately, I've been looking at some fantasy artwork to try and spark some ideas. The results have been...mixed, but it has gotten me worried about something; is it a bad idea to draw inspiration from a piece of artwork? For instance, suppose I see a picture of a Knight and something about the character sparks my creativity. Is writing a story based around that character acceptable? Does the fact someone else drew it make any ideas I might get from it less meaningful? Or, is swimming through artwork to find stuff that sparks creativity a perfectly okay way to get idea's?
