  1. Y'know.. that's actually a pretty perfect hook. It's like a locked room mystery. Except instead of the police chief grilling the rookie cop who refuses to play by the rules, it's Soulcaster being all "You had one job, how did you screw it up?" And instead of turning in her badge, it's more like "Fix it or die." I've been picturing her as sort of smug and condescending, but someone actually beating her system? That's gonna get a reaction. Especially if it ticks off the Big Man, which... presumably it would. I'm guessing Soulcaster would object to his fighters getting killed while his "chief of security" is busy making up new posters (because she's feeling in a neo-renaissance, post-modern kinda mood) instead of doing her job..
  2. Damnit it Kobold. Now I want a fic about the fierce political race between Tirek/Discord and Celestia/Luna. A;so, as a fan of Last Week Tonight, I must add: #makedonalddrumpfagain
  3. It's also probably important to add that, culturally, there have been societies that have recognised more than two genders. I admit, I'm not entirely familiar with it, so apologies if I'm inadvertedly insensitive, but, for example, from what I understand, there is a legal, third gender in India called hijra. There's also a native American concept known as Two Spirits, which... ...well, I'm not entirely sure. It's an idea which -as I understand it- varies greatly between native American people's. Considering I don't even have an understanding of the basics of Native American culture, I'm not even going to attempt describing it, because I will mess it up. I'd recommend checking out the site Rejected Princesses, since that's where I first found out about the concept. Point is, there is a cultural/historical basis for more than just a binary "man or woman" gender divide in culture.
  4. Yes yes, there's a roleplaying forum, but that (seems) to be for in-progress games, which isn't entirely what I mean here. This is...well. Me asking, do any of you play RPG's (I know the answer to that is yes) and if so...what ones? What got you into them? Got any funny stories or links or anything? You know. General discussion type stuff, for games of both the tabletop and computer variety! Personally... I've played a handful of computer RPG's. Pokemon would be the big one, but I've played a little Skyrim, Final Fantasy...you know. The big ones. When I was younger, I also did a bit of wargaming with friends; LotR, Warhammer, 40K, basically just mainstream Games Workshop. I've been kinda interested in pen and paper games for a while though, mostly thanks to funny stories that make them sound like they'd be fun to play...and lately, I've been trying to get involved in them. There's our very own What Happened in Oregon games, obviously (check it out! It's awesome!), but I've also been trying to learn the rules for Pathfinder, based on their prd.
  5. Ah, okay. I have to be honest, I'm fairly ignorant about this stuff myself. The difference between me and Rowling is that I'm not using this as the crux of a new installment in my globally-famous fantasy series. Personally -as I've said before- I'm curious how much studio input is involved in these notes. Wizard!America sounds kinda... Well, bland. And I wonder just how much of that is Rowling failing to research/not caring, and how much might be the studio trying to create a "safe" image of magic!America for their stuff. (Particularly considering the conversations mentioned earlier in this thread about compering American cultural identities and stuff)
  6. ...I sorta hate mentioning it, since I feel like it sounds like I'm making it all about me, but. A murder investigation does sound like something Sentry would be involved with.
  7. Question: what are these excerpts me a t to be? In-universe historians looking back? A series bible? Maybe it's just being used for shorthand? "They left the place which would later be called Washington," or something?
  8. Honestly, I was just trying to spitball ideas, but if it helps get a sub-plot rolling, and keeps Salem active, I'd be happy to contribute that way. (If they want me too, obviously)
  9. I'd just meant dropping him into Salem's arena, but sure. Vanilla fight club. Maybe Project Mayhem can get involved in burning Oregon to the ground
  10. I had an idea...but I hate jumping into the middle of something so long-running!
  11. And... I'm considering creating a vanilla. Is there anywhere in desperate need of new, non-powered characters?
  12. This forum, as has been well established, is one of nuance, level headedness and respectful debate. These things will almost certainly not be the case in the Civil War film. Still, not reason we can't have fun with the idea while it's still topical! Civil War. Whose side are you on? Why?
  13. I've read enough Shortpacked to know where tag-breaking leads us. This is an endorsement.
  14. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for books or research material related to prison life?
  15. The house isn't haunted. We are.
  16. So... I have to say, I'm going to be very interested in seeing how sides break down on this forum once the fim comes out. Can we get a "Team Cap" and "Team Tony" poll running? Beasides that... Spidey! I... am kind of annoyed, actually. I've been trying to avoid spoilers, but every website I use has had that image plastered all over their front pages. Would have been nice to see that unspoiled... But hey, Spidey. I... like him? I guess? I mean, he hasn't exactly done much other than exist, so it's not like I have much to judge by! His eyes are a little strange looking to me, but overall, neat costume. I wonder if that's the first time we'll see him in costume in film? It feel's like it was setup as a big reveal kind of thing... but that might be just because it's a reveal for the trailer.
  17. Guilty confession of guilt: For a longer time than I care to admit, I thought pugs and bulldogs were basically the same thing. (But yes, cosplaying security officers. And I just remembered I said Sentry was a wannabe YouTube star meaning she probably has the right background to be a pegasister meaning damnation, I'm basically writing Starlight Glimmer!)
  18. I'd say sorry for saying Salem is Reckoners!Disneyland. But I'm not sorry. Also, uh. -No, I figure costumes don't count, though i m now tempted to have her NPC government aides cosplay her as some sort of uniform. You know, cause the Orwellianism and security mindset wasn't facist enough. -Drawing a picture on the pugs face would totally work though.
  19. Sentry clicked her tongue. "Now now, don't be shy. And don't look so afraid! One thing that Salem strives for is that welcoming sense of security and community." It was a scripted response- one that Sentry had scripted for exactly this kind of circumstance. Salem drew many people to it for the arena, so really, calling it the happiest place in the Fractured States wasn't much (or any) of a stretch. "Now, Countdown, kindly remove the handcuffs, won't you? Our new friend here is hardly likely to do anything stupid or foolish, are you?"
  20. I... I can't tell how serious these questions are. Help.
  21. That...actually does make a shocking amount of sense. If Equestria is a dream state, is Canterlot High the real world? We never see beyond the school; it might be that town is just extremely lucky to have survived. Or maybe EqG!Mayor Mare is an epic ruling that town, which is why Celestia is just a principle. Epic!Mare is ruling the town. (And, if Equestria is a dreamstate to pacify unruly locals by forcing them to become friendly and productive, dies that make Sunset Shimmer Reckoners!Neo?)
  22. Let's start with an assumption: Equestria is Cosmere. That means Hoid must have visited at one point. This leaves two options: -Either Hoid was on Equestria as a human, meaning Lyra's human obsession comes from fact, or -Hoid used light weaving to make himself look like a pony and blend right in. I'm not sure which I want more. I just want pony world hoppers.
  23. Twenty-five. I'm not sure if that's young or old for this forum...
