    Girl Power

A female superhero not mentioned yet, a total badass and associated with a "boys" show? Videl, from Dragonball Z. In general, DBZ (and a lot of anime I watched as a kid, sadly) sucked at gender representation. So Videl stands out as freaking awesome, ditching school to fight crime, being no nonsense, and forcing people to teach her how to fly. She's awesome. (...just, uh, don't let them see the fight with... Yakon, I think? That is the most horrifyingly brutal beatdown that show ever made) EDIT And, if you're looking for specific female hero comics... I recommend Supergirl and Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade. A really great and fun book, with awesome (and hilarious) moments throughout.
  2. Sorry for being MIA. Got drafted for an extra six hours at work. (Does it count as drafted if they ask and I say yes? Whatever, point still stands) So.
  3. There's a project I've been considering for a while. I keep going back and forth on whether it's worth doing though. Since I'd probably be posting it here...figure it's worth asking you guy's for reactions. So, my thought was...doing a Pokemon Nuzelocke Challenge. If you don't know, a Nyzlocke is a self-imposed challenge in the games; only capture the first 'mon per route, and fainting=death. What I was thinking was...doing a nuzlocke (probably for Red/Blue), and writing it up as a story as I did. But...pairing each chapter with a critical essay on...something. Basically using my play through to find topics go research and write about. But ... dunno if anyone would find that interesting.
  4. I may have miscommunicated. The guy who told me was one I did get along with, and because I asked what the others think. Thing is ... 42 hours a week. Long time to spend in a room with people you don't get along with. Ah well. Enjoy the wedding!
  5. HM? Oh! Sorry if I sounded bitter; twas meant to be snarky. (Actually, meant in a Bank Scorpio, "Kill some dudes, it's help" kinda tone : P)
  6. Bit the bullet and hid my post. So I'll try and write something somewhat in canon. Also, if someone e could dowvote me 6 times, that's be great.
  7. I get the impression that my co-workers don't like me. (Mostly because one of them said that I was 'tense all the time' and drove everyone crazy). I'm not sure whether to be offended, or just ignore that, keep my head down, and try to earn some money.
  8. Er. I'll delete/hide my post entirely, if you'd rather that side of things not hear the declaration? Sorry about that...
  9. Moral Guardian is an epic. And therefore, is cool. Moral Guardian stops fans worshipping appreciating Nighthound. And therefore, is not cool. I think the paradox would make Lyla's head explode.
  10. Well. Edited. Surprised I didn't realize Lyla would start becoming a Quicksilver fan earlier, but whatever. She is... already starting to trend towards the really creepy epics, isn't she? Koschei, Quicksilver... Anyone wanna bet she writes Nighthounds name with little hearts?
  11. Well, kinda? Not sure if that was the only medical place. My guess was that, after an invasion, there might be all sorts of makeshift hospitals, or things converted quickly to take care of any...er...collateral damage... but I was tyring to keep things vague in case I was wrong.
  12. But people who already upvoted it can't upvote me again that way! Hmm, fair point! Gonan go do that. (As an aside, if I am writign Lyla or the Dalle's wrong.. someone tell me. Please. I always freak out when I'm the last person to post in a topic, sicne I start running with "OH GOD, I KILLED THE TOPIC" thoughts.)
  13. Hmm. I was gonna delete my post and re-type it (looking at it, it feel's kinda rushed), but I already got upvoted on it. Changing it now feels like cheating.
  14. So...does anyone else here read the comics? Volume 9 was released this week. And I'm curious to see other people's reactions to the arc.
  15. Posted in Dalles because...why not? Key word is "try". Dumb teenager fan's version of " inconspicuous" is different from any other definition of the word.
  16. Work is frustrating, at least so far as trying to find RP time. Question; would the medical centre have a radio? Wondering about having Lyla react to Quicksilver's speech...
  17. The itnernet ate my post. Grr... I've been assuming it was mid-afternoon, though I think the Arena is closed? Which would suggest it's later than that... So, my answer is, I have no idea. Sorry! And Twi... if you could PM me the information, I'd appreciate it! Small characterisation note. Lyla's name is actually "Elizabeth Lauren Robin". She uses Lyla as an abbreviation of them -Elizabeth Lauren- because she feel's those are too stuffy, un-cool and un-epic to use as a name. (The 'y' replaces the 'i' that it makes the name look unusual and interesting). There. Now my pony/Arrow knock-off has a reason for her silly name.
  18. I shall certainly be the first to admit the movie has it's flaws, and I don't begrudge negative opinions about the film. My complaint, hoenstly, is the sheer venom a lot of opinions I've seen for the movie seem's to show. There's a difference between "This is a bad movie", and "This is a movie with no redeeming features whatsoever,", and an awful lot of the reviews I've seen seem to throw BvS into the second category.
  19. "Leaving for work in ten minutes? Perfect time to introduce a crazy person to the Dalles!" Not my smartest move. Ah well.
  20. Everyone had some possession they found too precious to be without. For most people, it was their phones; for the more practical minded, firearms. For Elizabeth "Lyla" Robin, it was the digital camera strapped around her neck, an item that she wore so often and so ubiquitously that if anyone else wanted to touch it, they would have to pry it from her cold, dead hands. The medical professionals of the Dalles very nearly had had to do just that. "I'm fii-iii-iiine," she protested, again, just in case anyone in the medical ward hadn't heard or was still paying attention. When it became obvious that they weren't, she settled for folding her arms in a huff. No doubt if she tried to leave her sick bed, suddenly then they would pay attention to her, forcing her back there instead of doing more important things.. More important things like getting her film developed. The teenager fingered her camera, looking through the shots she had managed to score. Sure, maybe she -quite technically- shouldn't have been outside on the street's during the invasion; after all, she didn't have any kind of martial training, and she certainly didn't have any kind of weapons. On the other hand, it was an epic invasion. Just the thought of it made her grin. Just how sparking cool was that?! So many epics, all in one place, all at once, powers flying left and right, guards, and Dalles epics and new epics. And panda's. There were pandas. Lyla had never seen a panda in person before, just pictures in books. But they were there, in the six foot tall, weapon-wielding, growling flesh. It was weird that the books didn't have pictures of the winged pigs, or mention pandas propensity for violence, but that left only one possible conclusion: Epic Animals. No one knew where epic's came from, after all. And if people didn't know where epic's came from, and anyone could at any time become an epic -'But not lil ole Lyla Robin, nope,' she reminded herself with frustration - if anyone could become an epic at anytime, why couldn't animals? Maybe the reason there weren't more epic animals was because most epics didn't spend enough time around them. Maybe. It was just a theory. But even if it didn't pan out, it didn't change the fact that there had been, what, twenty different epics, all attacking the city at once. It was, far and away, the coolest thing that had ever happened in the Dalles, and the idea of sitting that out, of being locked indoors while so much cool stuff was going on just outside? That was practically criminal. Plus, it meant she got some great shots for her collection. She'd have to go through them in private later, obviously, but she was certain she must have gotten a few pictures of the epic's in the guards using their powers. They didn't do that often enough for her liking; those would make for great shots, even ignoring just how storming cool it was. Lyla Robin was a lot of things. Orphan. Photographer. Would-be assistant to Redlight. But more than any of that, she was a fangirl.
  21. Well, I'm off to work, so. I'll try and get Lyla's introduction post done tomorrow? (Still figuring out how to write her in though)
  22. Oh man. Shiny and Lyla*. That would be an...interesting, meeting. *Yeah, going with 'Elizabeth "Lyla" Robin' as a name. Elizabeth apparently means "My God is an oath/abundance", which...sounded appropriate for a fangirl, with " Lyla" as the diminutive. Robin means "fame", which...again. Stalker-stuff.
