Out if curiosity, did anyone else sit through the film convinced Tony was gonna die? I mean... I get that it was a joke. But I figured his line about his arm feeling weird was foreshadowing that something would happen to his heart and he'd die by movies end. And, adding to the above points of Team Iron Man...so far, the MCU has been very lucky. Their heroes have, generally, been able to control their powers... But they are adults. The introduction of Spider-Man indicates a new generation, a generation that's grown up in a world where superheroes unquestionably exist and operate. Frankly, you could argue that it's the Avengers responsibility to set a proper example for this next gen, lest you get teens gaining powers they can't control and exercising vigilante justice because, well, "that's how it works".

... Okay. I'm gonna confess to ignorance? Who is Hamilton? All I know about it comes from Last Week Tonight, which leads me to believe it's the name of a musical about Puerto Rico...but I feel like I'm missing important info.

So I was talking to a guy, and one thing led to another, and, well. Would anyone be interested in a short story about Archemedies, ancient Greek Mad Scientist?

Remember how I was complaining about my hours? My work is hiring more people. So, my hours went down. A lot. To the point where I currently have about a week off. I... I don't know how to feel about this. Other than lazy.

Sooo... I'm curious about how the stories been going since I left. And while I don't plan on coming back, I -am- rather curious on what ever happened to my house... Any chance of getting an index set up to look at the RP posts? Might be time consuming, but it's be fun to read without having to poke around all the rules and mechanics.

It's funny you mention that. There was a show that started airing in the UK a while ago based on Beowulf... and I was never able to make it past the title sequance, because it felt very much like they knocking off GoT's opening. Anyway, I also disagree on the narration. You could absolutely get the idea of time passing over and over, of nations having risen, fallen and risen again, just through visuals... and I kinda feel like that narration every week would be sort of cheesy. Might undermine the "grand epic" vibe....

Speaking of Salem, I'll try and get a post up there tomorrow. Ditto with the Dalles, unless someone wants ts to post instead...? Anyway, apologies for delays.

From what I understand, it comes down to copyright law...which unfortunately varies from country to country. Some things (generally 100 years or folder) seem to be in the public domain and can be freely referenced; the likes of Sherlock Holmes, for instance. There are also some things (like Jenny Everywhere) which are built as open source from the start and only require an acknowledgement of that fact in the copyright page. However...modern companies also keep a much tighter leash on that stuff. Modern pop culture icons are very valuable commercially. You mention the Flash; that guy has had a comic for some 50+ years, two live action television shows, and an upcoming movie. The image of the Flash is, therefore, kind of valuable. I'm not sure how referencing that kind of thing works, but I'm pretty certain it involves getting permission from the company/estate beforehabd. ...but, as I say, copyright law is finicky, and lacks international codification. What's public domain in one area might not be in another. So...it's complicated?

I've considered doing that, actually. I put it on hold at the time, since I hadn't read Elantris, but if there is interest... I'm kind of fascinated by metanarrative, and I think that's a thing to consider. The Cosmere is like a matryoshka doll of that. After all, every world has their own stories, Legends and creation myths, sharing common elements. Then you have the larger narrative of the cosmere, Adonalsium and the Sixteen, and the way that influences around the edges of individual book plots... Then there's the fact that many of the books are written in response to traditional stories; 'what if the dark lord won'(Mistborn), 'Sword and Sorcery tropes as political tools'(Warbreaker), 'Classic High Fantasy'(Roshar)... Or duelling narratives, like how Kelsier sets up his revolution as a good story to perpetuate his religion. Or the fact that theatrics and storytelling constantly appear in the books. Hell, what about Hoid, Brandon's favourite character, who's favored disguise seems to be that of a storyteller...

Someone at worked asked me "Do you have a girlfriend? Or a boyfriend?" On the one hand, hurrah! Heterosexuality is no longer the default mindset! ...on the other hand, this is my second co-worker to ask if I have a boyfriend. Do...do I have an affect or something?

Hmm. Scribbler's post made me think...this is a post-apocalypse, right? And comic book value would be based, at least in part, on rarity... I was gonna suggest some kind of Collector epic...but then, that's a guy from the MCU.

See, I'll totally be unsurprised if I messed that up...but when u was setting up my account, it wouldn't let me do it without giving them a number, so they could send me something to verify it. I dunno. I'm really bad with technology, so me having made a mistake somewhere really wouldn't surprise me...

Okay, supplementary question, same topic. Suppose I -accidently- hit video chat. And hung up right away, but still... Phone number. Is it now in the hands of some guy, y/n? (I am so bad at technology. It makes being paranoid...difficult)

Have you ever seen the B:TAS episode "Almost got him"?I picture that. But with Hoid. It's beautiful.

We talk on this forum a lot about how stuff works; the realmatics, and magic systems and so forth. And that's awesome; the fact that Brandon has created worlds which are so dense and fascinating absolutely should be analysed! ...but as a consequence, I don't think the side of these books as literature get's as much love. So. On the literary side of the Cosmere... What kind of themes and meanings do you read in the books?
