  1. I will fight you on this. Anyway, as terrible as 2016 was in general, I think it actually was a pretty good year for comics; at least so far as the Big Two were concerned. I can't remember if the Secret-Never-Ending-War finished in 2016 or 2015, but either way, it was a decent event, and I heard good thigns about... at least some of the books that launched with All New All Different monikers. Meanwhile DC had it's resurgance of creativity with DCYou, and then Rebirth happened and everything has been fantastic since. Heck, IDW has expanded it's massively successful Hasbro comics, and Image continues to have TV hits like the Walking Dead. Vertigo got a new lease of life thanks to new books and old books (iZombie, Lucifier) being productive enough to get second seasons. The comic industry made out pretty well, all things considered.
  2. - Captain Marvel getting some dignity and respect back after the fiasco that is Civil War II - #Cyclopswasright getting acknowledged in universe. - Arrow season 5 being really good, and them maintaining that quality for season 6. - Actually, if DC can maintain the quality of its current relaunch un general, the would be fantastic.
  3. So, if youlaugh at TV Tropes while drinking, not only might you spit take, it'll be accompanied by a spasaming pain in your neck and a headache. Good to know.
  4. Now I feel mildly guilty for not living up to the Irish stereotype and drinking. If I did, maybe we'd be at the top of that leaderboard.
  5. For eating all of Ren's pancakes. You monster.
  6. Personally, I've always thought Miles had a great point in Alloy of Law, when he compared himself to Kelsier and how times had changed. Which leads to my general discussion question: How do you guys view Kelsier? Is he a hero (or even THE hero and Big Good of the Mistborn series)? An anti-hero who coasts by on his charm, charisma and the fact he's opposed by people who are worse than him? Something in between?
  7. I made a mistake. I thought the first Grand Trial gave you pokemon loyalty up to level 35. I'm starting to fight enemy who are pushing level 40, however so obviously I must have misread it. The problem is, I swapped my core team out as soon as they hit that level. So, my guys are now slightly underlevelled...which isn't good when I'm already wasting a spot on my team to try and raise another pokemon to their level. Fortunately, my Primarina has been in the party from the start, and is starting towards level 50. He's carrying the team.
  8. Corollary to that, I dislike the fact that bisexual males have...Let's say "limited" screen presence? It's something I've been complaining for a while about. Bi!guys have to be one of the most under-represented slice of society. (Bisexuality, in general, is poorly served, but I get the impression female bisexual characters are easier to find than males ones)
  9. ...Er... what? So... no video chat meaning... it's like google hangouts?
  10. ...so... what's Discord?
  11. Does it count as a peeve if it's a seriously issue? Either way, bisexual erasure bothers me. A lot. The thing that's triggered my sudden posting of peevishness? I read an article which described one of the leads of DC's Legends of Tomorrow's a lesbian. Apparently the author decided to ignore the fact that the character in question had a romance sub-plot with two male characters over the course of the show(s) in addition to her female love interests. Sloppy research, and contributing to the notion that bisexuality isn't really a thing. Let's make that two pet peeves.
  12. Plot twist; the Gallifreyan known as the Lawyer has a reputation for his scrupulousness and honesty.
  13. This is offically the canon phrase for a gathering of epics. Like a flock of birds, or a crowd of people, or a school of fish. It's a glut of epics. This is canon now.
  14. ...Okay double post, but, it has been a month? (Okay, maybe should let die, but I can't help it; this is one of my favorite threads on this board. I like getting music recs from you guys. ) Anyhow, I'm kind of surprised this hasn't been mentioned... but then, most people are posting actual songs, so. Possible theme for Kelsier/the Survivorists.
  15. I got distracted with work... apologies! I... am actually trying to bat a concept or two around. I know I mentioned one a few pages back; trying to see if anything else sparks my imagination. Post, soon.
  16. I don't think admitting to being a Kandra clears up the issue very much.
  17. Existentialism is the best kind of angst. It leads to all sorts of questions like "What am I even doing with my life," and "Am I wasting my time." Questions like "Who do I even bother with stuff," since 'stuff' isn't going to get done anyway. Or trying to make full scale mental essays on "What have I done wrong today," and not seeing any real way that the future is going to change or be better. This is why I end up chasing comic books and fantasy and role-playing so much. Escapist fiction, yeah, but those are genres which place an emphasis on human life having an intrinsically high value, and sometimes, I feel like I...really don't. (And, add "Am I bothering (people on) the Shard with my whining," to concerns now...)
  18. I finally got around to reading Secret History...and it ended up confusing me with regards a plot point I thought I understood: Why was Hoid at the Terris Dominances in Well of Ascension? My impression has always been that he was following the same line of thought as Vin and Elend, looking for the Well then doubling back to Luthadel. I've always assumed he snuck in, got the bead and left while Vin and company were fighting the Koloss. ...but Secret History shows that he got the bead before the siege started. So...do we know why he was in Terris? (Incidentally, any word on why Hoid never snatched the atrium bead before Rashek died?)
  19. Great show, great singer, great song. (Sung by Shirley Manson, with the composer being Bear McCreary, for the curious.)
  20. Eh, I think I'm really bad at reading people, I guess.
  21. Not my story, but one relayed via a youtube channel I follow which I found entertaining. So this guy decided to run a DnD 5th edition game, and he decided to play it as a spoof of Lord of the Rings. The concept was that the party was going to have the mystical anklet of the Dark Lord Archaeopteryx, and had to take it to the far end of the world to sell it to an inter dimensional pawn shop. As part of that, he made up his version of the Silmarillion mythology, which I found entertaining, which is what I'm talking about now. So, his concept was that, at the beginning of time, the great God Particularis was the conductor of the orchestra that sung the world into creation. The Great Evil was a god called Widfa. As I say, it's based on the Silmarillion. If you aren't familiar with it, the concept for the Silmarillion mythology is that the God of the LotR verse (Eru) gathered the Valar and had them sing the world into creation. During the song, one of the Valar, Melkor, made changes and tried to do his own thing, causing a lot of discord and strife in the choir. Melkor went on to become the OG Dark Lord, and Sauron's boss, Morgoth. Widfa had a... slightly different motive. He got lost. The orchestra was singing off of a score sheet meant to summon all of creation into being. With that in mind, it was quite long; infinite, in fact. Which made it really bad when Widfa lost his place. Suddenly, he had no idea where the rest of the group was, what page they were supposed to be on, or what he was supposed to be playing. A bad situation to begin with, but he also happened to be playing an important instrument. So he started trying to fake it, by pretending to play. ...Except, that doesn't exactly fly when your boss is the All-Knowing God, so Particularis kept honing in on Widfa and telling him to start playing louder. At which point Widfa just starts playing random notes, hoping that maybe he's at the right place with the rest of the group, and he never is. According to the DM, Widfa's bad music is the cause for discord and disharmony in the world, and eventually, it gets so bad that Particularis banishes Widfa from his chair and makes him sit in the back to play the triangle... and Widfa still can't do that right, so every now and again, small disturbances and unrest in the world happen because Widfa doesn't know when to chime in properly. I found the idea entertaining.
  22. Face to face, but honestly, I have a hard time judging people. Apways sort of worried not picking up.on the sarcasm, or being laughed at behind my back or something
  23. ...okay, random advice seeking. How can you tell when someone is insulting you via compliments? I never know how sincere stuff I'm told is, and it's bothering me. Like, is "You're a hard worker" meant to be taken as "You do too much"?
  24. My work is finally offering a pension scheme. I suspect they are trying to bribe the staff into not leaving.
  25. Finally started season two of Supergirl: - Five minutes in, and I already like this Clark. He says lickety-split without sounding sarcastic or corny. - Rescuing the Venture is a cool callback to saving the plane from the first pilot. - I should have learned the actors names; is Lucy still co-Director of the DEO? Hoping she is and just hasn't appeared yet.
