Most of it is...inferred background detail. Shards play major roles, in one way or another, min all his books though. The most information probably comes from Stormlight Archive though.

Nay, good Leftfinch. For are there not guilds of thieves? Did good sir Robin not hold Court in the forest of wood of Sher? Clearly, Baroness Elsa is a noble rogue.

A soul stamp is a type of magic that appeRs in The Emperor's Soul, whereby someone changes an objects past to change it in the present. My best guess is that history now says zelda was never Queen, and took to stealing steel hearts out of a need to survive. So... we could save her... But I for one embrace her new identity! All hail Ribber Baroness Elsa Steelheart!

Well. I'm certainly going to be more active from now on. Er...dating, dating, uh... Renarin? Just to steal him from Feather and give her an aneuryism Probably... Vivenna? She's the one I have the most in common with, without getting to the point where we'd annoy each other. sorry vin
-
Why? Because the soul stamp has filled you with an insiatiable desire to possess all the Steel hearts of course! And because the soap opera plot lines of this forum need an epic plot twist

...wait. You mean the people who only make one or two posts and never come back haven't just been going to live on a farm?

Hey there. Welcome to the 17th Shard, and enjoy your visit.

I recommend Warbreaker. As well as being one of Nrandons best books, there's a sequence which describes how magic works quite well. Easter eggs though... Well. There was Hoid (the informant Vin got spooked off by) The reference to Adonalsium, which is kind of important. And...hm. I don't think there is any others that date further than that...but I haven't read Elantris, so I may be overlooking something.

Courtiers! An important revelation has come to light! Tempus has been outed as a forger, one who has convinced our queen to apply a soul stamp in the form of an avatar. Our benevolent Aueen has been forged into a jewel thief! The question lies before us; what must now be done? (For those keeping track... there was a post here I deleted. After rereading it, I wasn't entirely comfortable with it. So you get this instead.)

Honestly, it's the cultural ramifications that most interested in. There's certain stereotypes when it comes to cosmetics, in real life and in literature, and I'd kind of like to write a story where those stereotypes are reversed, or at least challenged. I'd thought of this being a typical fantasy medieval world, but... Delightfuls comments has me thinking it might be more interesting to place it in an earth-like/AoL-era Scadrial world, where culture has already been shaped by it. Men wearing make-up was definitely something I'd considered though. Yes, the main character would probably be female... but if cosmetic 'war paint' is linked to power, I can't imagine there being a taboo on men wearing it.

Indeed! Foiled by the same reputation system which has given him power, he has been outed as a forger. I say we "persuade" him into designing "avatars" for my our Elsa enemies.
-
Nice catch?!? Am I the only one concerned that he has transformed the beloved Queen of Newcago into a master jewel thief?
-
Oh. My. God. I just realised. Tempus is creating these images for everyone. Everyone is then applying them to themselves. Tempus is also a forger.

Storing luck when gambling with Joe. I mean c'mon, he's already loaded the dice, not like he needs the edge. -

Okay, maybe this isn't an issue, per se (unless it turns out the member in question was a spambot and I need to wipe my hard drive clean), but... Well. I could have sworn someone by the name of zoocraft signed up the other day and posted a few topics. I checked in in the introduction one (and got suckered into his guild one), but now I can't find them any where. Am I crazy, was that a spambot, and would my computer be in need of extensive corrective surgery?

Brandon won't be needing to finish ASOIAF for GRRM.
Quiver replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Entertainment Discussion
...you know, given how many people think GRRM is a nihilist who hate humanity because of how evil the people in his books are, I can kind of see him as Ra's al Ghul. Comic version anyway. Environmental terrorism for the win! -
"My Little Pony? Isn't that a show for girls-" "DIE!" ...what? I'd do that...

So, I was re-reading old posts and found a comment which led me to snark about 'a whole range of cosmetics-based magic', and it kind of got me thinking. I am supposedly working on a number if fictions at the moment! but I feel like I need to do a good one-chapter short story, if only because all my current projects keep getting abandoned. A story in the world of this cosmetics magic sounded kind of neat. Visually, I think it's distinctive, and I kind of like the reverse of expectations; normally, people who wear too much make-up aren't regarded very highly. A world where "that" girl is a high-.level Mage sounds fun. My only problem is I'm completely stuck on how the cosmetics should work. Right now, the most magical idea I have is that the various make-ups, blush, etc are made to retain qualities of the plants they are made from; basically alchemy, except the results are worn rather than ingested. Does anyone have any suggestions on alternative systems?

Great. Now that song is stuck in my head, and I can't Forge-t it.

Maybe this is how Odium breaks Shards? He convinces them to babysit an unreality brood of voidbringers, giving them a spli(n)tearing headache.

I want to echo Swimmings sentiment, but I suspect even Forgery has it's limits.
