  1. Thanks for the advice so far. I did a little snooping (since the error keeps happening); ran the site in question through an online internet malware scanner...thing. The only ping that came back was that the site, apparently, didn't have a firewall. Can anyone put that in simpler language for the computer illiterate? Would that mean my using the site is a bad idea?
  2. Hmm. Interesting, if rather short. I admit, when I started it, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be one of the main characters or not; the title reminded me of what Sazed said re: The Survivor of Flames, and if you plan on continuing beyond this short, I would be interested to see it go in that direction. I was also a little confused about the setting. Obviously, there wasn't much detail-you focus on the Narrator rather than the place, after all- but with the Survivor and the fact it's Mistborn, I assumed it was a Final Empire-era piece... which made the colloquial "yeah" or the comment about parties stand out. Yes, there were balls in the original Mistborns, but for some reason I pictured something more like a modern-ish rave. I'd say it took me out of the story a little, but why should you be penalized for my baggage? Anyway, that aside, I like it, particularly how you describe the emotions the Narrator feels and how they differ from what they used to have. Honestly... I can relate to them. That sort of apathy is a terrible place to be. One thing I would say might be relative on whether or not this is going to be a larger piece; if you want this to be a stand alone, I'd say remove the last line, so that the start and endings mirror one another. The piece is very focused on the Narrators personal feelings, his own loss (arguably being self-indulgent by claiming that no one understands them). Having the story close right back where ti started, with the simple declaration that they've lost something and can never get it back really hits home how desperate and miserable the situation is, and keeps the audience focused on the fact that this narrator hasn't really moved in the piece; they are still stuck in the same pit they were in when they started. By contrast if you want to continue it, keep the ending, because it's more dramatic. Everythign up to this point has been about how they "lost" their allomancy, almost like it was their fault it happened. That line makes it clear that it wasn't; it was someone elses. It carries a bit of a threat to it, or at least (to me) the sort-of promise of a throughline- the Narrator had something taken from them. They are going to find the person responsible and take it back.
  3. You know, I'm pretty sure this is stolen from something. I want to say Terry Pratchett, but I don't think he actually NAMED the point... A plain, slightly blunt iron axe. "The Kingmaker"
  4. Wait, does this seriously happen? I only got as far as Dragon Reborn, but that plot sounds so insane I might just keep reading just to get to it.
  5. "I'll kill you, Adonalsium! KILL YOU TO DEATH!" Tam- I don't think I've heard that theory before, but I think we have WoB that Adonalsium had been to Roshar, so...
  6. As artwork... I like it. I really like it;the style is interesting to look at, and it looks good. As depictions of the characters... I really like Dalinar. He isn't quite how I imagine him in my head (I picture his face being a bit squatter), but I still like him. I'm not a big fan of Elhokar though, but I think that I might just be working off a wrong mental image; for some reason, I'd swear he's a blonde... I do, however, love the Last Supper, Judas-esque look of Sadeas pose. Again, he's not quite how I picture him (though I can't recall why), but... the posture and him being behind Dalinar is awesome.
  7. George R.R. Martin: I will not kill a Stark.
  8. I think they might be starting to run out of meat for the grinder. Only one ad showed up this morning, and that was old reliable Vashikaran specialist.
  9. The Everstorm is coming. Yep, any day now...
  10. Wanting to spike comedians for bad jokes? Talk about a temper flaring up!
  11. You guys hear about Shallan's spinning wheel? She wanted to try a bit of light- weaving.
  12. Geeze Baine, you're gonna make me ruin my perfect word count to explain the joke? Plebian. Okay, so... follow closely. SEVEN= Seventh Knight Radiant Order= Elsecallers EIGHT= The number of letters in Shinovar. And who do we know comes from Shinovar? Szeth. NINE= Ninth book. We know Jasnah has a book in the Back Five, and the ninth episode of Game of Thrones is always the big action packed one with the twist in it. Why is Game of Thrones important? Because Brandon published a cosmere short story in GRRM's anthology. So obviously, in the Ninth Book of the Stormlight Archive, Szaeth is going to kill an Elsecaller. And that makes me sad.
  13. Because SEVEN EIGHT NINE. Thank you, I'll be here all week! Sweet Harmony am I in a good mood right now. Not only did I get to arguably Best Rank, my efforts at weight loss are starting to pay off. Computer problems and word count aside, I'm pretty damnation happy right now.
  14. ...You are absolutely right. And if you hadn't posted that, I migth have edited it with no one noticing and gotten away with it, you meddling kids. But yeah, I meant Destination before Journey. "He's tied down there? Great! There are people who might have to suffer his undying shardic wrath? Eh, can't save a cosmos without breaking a few eggs."
  15. ...Well. Obviously that starts a pretty important discussion. What order is he?
  16. So... reading over it, it's an interesting theory. I'm not sure if I buy into it or not; for one thing, I have my own headcanon about why Endowment has been relatively inactive until recently, and this theory contradicts it. For another... While the stripping of Adonalsium might make for a really got setting or background, I think the general, or expected idea, is that it happenbed all at once, as the climax to the storyline of the Liar of Partinel or Dragonsteel; whichever the Yolen book is. It certainly seems like an appropriately epic event; the death of a god makes a big climax. But that meta-logic isn't any reason it should happen that way, and might be good argument as to why it shouldn't. Oh God. This guy shattered Adonalisum.
  17. ...Am I the only one who is stunned that, in all the swag that got mentioned, the Kings Wit costume in your avatar got overlooked?
  18. You know... I've never noticed this before, but the response is pretty specific. Odium has been inhibited, not stopped. It kind of sounds as if the writer of the response is willing to leave Odium free to wreck Roshar and cause damage int hat solar system, so long as he doesn't get loose to do it elsewhere. Journey before Destination? Better that one planet and it's inhabitants be detsroyed than Odium be loosed on the Cosmere? ...damnation. How bad can Odium be if that's the case? If the 17th Shard (which contains fairly decent men like Demoux and Galladon) are prepared to write off Roshar and it's inhabitants as "acceptable collateral damage"?
  19. Considering the impact that Vin and Rasheks (relatively) minor adjustments made, I think Sazed could have done it. And, you know, killed everything. ... Harmony damnation it, now I'm imagining Scadrial shooting through space like a Death Star.
  20. Well, the website seems to have stabilised a bit...which leads me to my next question. Since it's stopped directing, should I be concerned that whatever was wrong with it was/is in my equipment instead? (In case you haven't noticed, I have the mad attitude to machines that most people have to cats. They are strange, arcane things, likely to bite at a moments notice.)
  21. So, there's another forum I use. Ordinarily, it works fine for me. Today though, after I spend any amount of time on it, the web page I'm on suddenly redirects to a poker website, or to advertise something. Is this bad?nis it just a problem with the forum in question, or would I be best to wipe my computer/ account as a whole. So far it hasn't affected any other website I've visited...
  22. Am I the only one who is starting to think Vashikaran appears on the forum often enough to be a rank by now?
  23. They have returned to burn with their forum.
  24. ...did...did you just add the Baker Street Irregulars to Mistborn?Yeeeeessss.... "This is my information network, the Elendel Irregulars!"
