Garth Nix's Old Trilogy Kingdom was rather clean, if I recall correctly... and quite good, as well.

My favourite interlude character, with a pet chasm fiend? I can't even begin to tell you how much I want this to be true, for that part alone. Bonus points if Rysn continues to think Sullen is her most exotic animal for being so weird.

Newcago: -5 points Wafflesworn: - 50 points By default, that means the Herd wins the House Cup, simply be being the last ponies left standing.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that oath and titles being used are still the ones invented by a traitor?

All of my Odium sounds like a TV sitcom. Like, Odium goes back to Braize after each Desolation, and Hoid is like "Oh, Rayse! How was work?" And he's all like, "I killed nine out of ten people, but Bavadin is coming over for dinner!" And then a laugh track plays and Hoid is like "Oh Odium!"

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Quiver replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You try to figure out how all of your fandoms can coexist, like the cosmere. "Okay, so, Celestia and Luna are Slivers and that's why they live so long, and maybe Gallifreyans are born with 12 Divine Breathes and that's why they can Regenerate. UNIT is the UK-branch of SHIELD, and the Avengers were formed as a counter to the a League of Extraordinary Gentleman- but, wait, what about the Justice League? Was krypton a world that Odium destroyed? Maybe having a splinter in him is why Superman is so powerful...hmm..." -
This is the creepy cupcake lady. Derpy, on the other hand, is too beloved to be creepy. She gets to be awesome instead.

Strange and Surprising Crossovers
Quiver replied to TwiLyghtSansSparkles's topic in General Discussion
The opening storyline of Colin Bakers record-breaking eighth year as the Doctor had a controversial beginning when the Doctors trip to Nalthis resulted in the famous "coat of many colours" coming to life and trying to strangle him. The serial famously concluded with the controversial (and thankfully temporary) decision on the Doctors part to wear a mist cloak, and the beloved rainbow coat was soon restored to it's proper place. -
Another problem whose route is Shaladin. Typical.

Buzzing in from the vastness of the World Wide Web...
Quiver replied to Turanga Leela's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Good news, everyone! With Stormlight Archive on the shelf for now, Turanga Leeka is one book closer to reading Warbreaker (my favourite Brandon novel). Well, off you go Leela. Books to read, byyyye. -
Huh. That explains a lot. ...oh, not about me! Honestly, I was feeling a little guilty! smiling and taking waffles, only to spit them out or give them away. After all, honestly? I find waffles rather icky. It's the entire basis of this challsnge after all. To prove the superiority of muffins as the breakfast of champions. What it explains is why my dog has been acting so funny lately. Poor Winona. And there I thought your waffles were a treat for her. Oh well.
-
It is time for the Wafflesworn to meet their betters, and engage in a war which will determine once and for all the superior breakfast. Choose your champion and meet her in the duelling thread kitchen... IF YOU DARE.

So. I'm thinking of picking up a copy of the Kingkiller Chronicles. Anyone want to pitch it to me? What's it like?

I think it Preserves the integrity of the thread, to be honest.

Strange and Surprising Crossovers
Quiver replied to TwiLyghtSansSparkles's topic in General Discussion
Canon crossover: the Doctor exists in the Marvel Universe! With Optimus Prime! The story, as I understand it, goes that in the 70's Marvel UK had the rights to both the Transformers and Doctor Who comics. The former comic introduced a villain named Deaths Head, who operated as a space mercenary robot...thing. At some point, he made an apperance in the Doctor Who strips, before migrating to the main Marvel universe. Deaths Head was a part of the Marvel Universe, and then was part of the grim'n'gritty era of the 90's. Recently though he has appeared in the Marvel NOW and Ultimate Marvel eras. Now, granted, the rights for the Transformers and Doctor Who have gone on to different companies, and Deaths Heads origins have become the kind of thing which is tacitly ignored...but still. I like to think Optimus Prime and the Doctor have Avenger status. -
Needs more pony. Okay, seriously, I'll...read and critique these soon, little busy right now. In the meantime, have you considered posting them in the fiction setting? At the least it would set precedent for me to spam that section with pony fiction.

It was wrong because it was vigilante justice, and because Brandon set up this exact same scenario earlier in the book and said it was wrong. The situation with Sadeas is similar to the one with Amaram, and to a lesser extent Elhokar. Both were villains whose actions led to destruction, and neither of them were willing to change to confront the larger issue. And when Kal demanded vengance on Amaram, Dalinar's response was clear: he would be tried and pay for his crimes, fairly. Sadeas wasn't offered that. Yes, he is an unpleasant person, and the POV we had of him made it clear he was acting in his own self-interest, mocked up as 'for the good of Alethkar'. But you don't just decide that, because you don't like someone, that makes them fair targets for execution without due process. Had Sadeas been tried for his crimes, found guilty by Elhokar and executed... things would have been different. That didn't happen. Instead, he was murdered. And the way that happened, Adolin finding him, alone and killing him, was wrong. It may have been an act of passion (at least partly)... but it was still wrong. At least in my eyes. Doing what's right doesn't mean doing it sometimes, or doing it to people you don't hate. That's what the third ideal of the Windrunners is all about; that even the people we despise should be protected if the situation calls for it. Yes, Sadeas would have caused trouble further down the line. Yes, he was a terrible human being. But when Moash was going to kill Elhokar, Kaladin stopped it. Because letting Moash kill Elhokar would have been wrong. Just like Adolin killing Sadeas was wrong.

QuivLyght is approved by best Pony. That therefore makes QuivLyght best Ship. Because logic. And Leftfinch that picture is very...Spawn looking. I had no idea Trigun was animated by Todd McFarlene.

For what it's worth- from someone who is only two books ahead of you- that was much of my reaction to them as well. I was a bit biased from the start, since even the name kind of sounds like 'orc'... but they do seem very much like generic monsters; they aren't human, so it's okay to murder them with impunity, guys! To be fair- or perhaps a little damning- I can't really remember them doing much in the next two books, which have more interesting villains. I'm sure they do pop up again, and maybe they do get scarier, but... unless something awesome happens, I think I'm going to be stuck thinking of them as the generic footsoldiers of evil.

Huh. So... I just realised I never commented on Prepared. My bad. I had a quick glance over it just now- I don't have time to critique it yet, but I'll edit this post with it later when I do. In the meantime, quick question; do you plan on continuing that narrative, or keeping it just as a short, one-off what if situation?

How do we know that Hoid is a Feruchemist?
Quiver replied to 11thorderknight's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Really, really not related to the topic at hand, but seeing it phrased this way makes me think. A spine-wound being an instant-death attack from a Shardblade reminds me of how removing the Spike between an Inquisitors shoulder blades (ie: one that was in the spine) would kill them. I'm not sure what that means but... I kind of have a feeling that there is something there... -
Something is wrong with my computer, and I can't see the pictures you guys posted. Which means I can't make witty reply and counter-pictures to them.

Would it help if I pointed out that, five minutes after being wreathed in green flames, this happened? I demand to be shipped!
