My guess is also that he is dead. This book was intended to be a stand-alone, if I understand correctly; an introduction of sorts to another trilogy. (or did Brandon Sanderson change his mind on that, making AoL the first book in the new tri?) It seemed to me like an experiment in the traditional adventure/western genre (based on the huge amount of traditional tropes in it) My theory is that now that they've defeated Miles and gotten past the Set's diversion, they'll spend the next trilogy getting into the Set's real plans and the bigger picture. I suppose Miles could always come back, but he'd have to be a lot more powerful, or not play a huge role. Otherwise Sanderson would be bringing back a dead and old villain and people would be bored. Anyways, my main problem with AoL is Wax's name. Wax? Waxillium? Why? Why on God's green earth would you call a character "Waxillium?" I mean, I get that Wax and Wayne is a charmingly corny pairing, but still...

I found myself not giving a crap about Vivenna until 2/3 of the way through Warbreaker, when she finally snapped and became an interesting character. I still never cared about Blushweaver, who's supposed to be this intelligent, conniving, and sexy goddess. Every time I came to either of their parts, I would groan and sludge through them. (Much like Roran's lengthy chapters in CP's Eldest, anyone?) I agree with whoever said that the characters in Elantris are hard to care about as well. Some of the time they were pretty good. But other times, I would just wish their parts would be over with. But I really loved all of the Mistborn characters.

Eh, okay. 'Course, now I'm all curious about this "Hoid" fellow. In Elantris he was just a begger, and hearing his name around here makes me much more curious. I feel like his worlds are all so interconnected, I have to read all of his works to understand the big picture. Clever, Sanderson, clever. x_x

So, I finished Elantris. Not as happy with it as I was with Mistborn. It was less absorbing, the characters were a little less dynamic, and I kind of felt like he crammed too much world-building into one novel. It felt more like typical fantasy to me. But still, it wasn't a bad book. It was, after all, his debut. So much was left unanswered, though. D: So very much. Do they answer much in the Emperor's Soul?

Sooo... Four years after this topic was started, what's actually happening with the movie? Any steps forward? I can't find anything on IMDB, unless it's under another title...

Whoa! Shroom?! It's a small World Wide Web after all. ._____________________________. I didn't even read the post before I saw your avatar and was like "?!?!??!" Not so small, I suppose, given that this is, along with IF/LF, a fantasy fan forum. But still. I'm glad for Eerongal's summary. I like having a big picture to compare the plots to, and things. XD I saw one of Sanderson's Stormlight Archive books in the library, and dang, was it big. Don't know when I'll get around to reading that. But thanks!

So, Ruin and Preservation aren't even the big picture, huh? XD He has so many books; which ones are directly related to the Mistborn world? (Besides the Alloy of Law) Right now, I'm reading Elantris. I have Warbreaker as well, and after I read that, I'll have to go buy Alloy of Law... (When I went to the bookstore last week, I had finite money, so I had to make a choice... )

Hey there. As you can see from my name, I'm a Futurama fan, but I'm also a new Mistborn fan. A few weeks ago, I was aimlessly clicking around on a Sci-fi/Fantasy forum, and came to a thread about Brandon Sanderson's books. My "well-tuned reading instincts" told me that Mistborn might be a good book, so I reserved it from the library and read the whole original trilogy. Well, I loved it. As soon as I finished them, I thought I would look into other books of his online, and found this forum. I'm not new to foruming, so I look forward to joining another community and discussing his stuff. I have a question, though... What is the significance of the "17th Shard"? Something that pops up in another series of his?
