  1. About to head out to a showing, so thought I'd start the topic before I leave. Anyone seen it yet?
  2. Calling this in again. Brief sabbatical, since I have some projects I should be focusing a lot more on than I have been.
  3. Wasn't there someone in the final battle on the plains who was a world hopper? I could have sworn there was some hubbub a while ago that the name of a one of Strafes servants was mentioned as a soldier at the end of WoR.
  4. Oh... you don't want a pony? Well, that's okay. I'm sure they'll understand...
  5. And once again, the herd goes unchallenged! Victory to Derpy!
  6. Isn't Brandon publishing the first story draft chapters, with Kaladin accepting the shards? Do we have a release date on that, or was it a campaign-exclusive thing?
  7. Indeed you did, scholar. Congratulations on creating Worst Pony. Seriously though, ask Leftfinch. I just steal fan art I find online; my artistic skills are... Shall we say, limited? Granted, some ponies are actually in the show. There are some characters who are deliberate references and homages to celebrities or fandoms, and others that kind of get adopted into it. And then there's the likes of Vin pony, or ponified Vash, or Game of Ponies, or anything else. The fandom is very... expansive.
  8. Swear the oaths. Return to men the shards they once bore. And then melt the shard blades to build an Iron Throne.
  9. Wow, that almost sounds official. So, I was talking to Elsa, and something occurred to me; as much as I enjoy Frosen for deconstructing norms about true love, good and evil etc... I kind of hope someone, sometime, writes a story where Elsa becomes a villain, because I like broken heroes sometimes. That got me thinking about the greater Disneyverse. And then I happened to catch a rerun of Enterprise's mirror universe two-parter. So here we are. The idea of Fishey films existing in a single continuity (the animated ones at least) isn't exactly anything new. But one of the things I enjoy doing to children's films/shows is twisting it, subjecting them to alternative character interpretations and making the villains the hero (and vice-versa). Creating a mirror universe for every Disney film sounds like a fun idea to me... Or it did until I realised how many films that was. Walt Disney made a lot of movies. Still, I think the concept sounds fun, so I'm opening it to you guys. Any ideas on how to Mirrorverse Disney films? And if so, would fiction based on the results be things you might be interested in writing/reading.
  10. I'm going to admit it. Cosplay is one part of the MLP fandom I find rather odd. I'd assume that being a franchise about ponies would preclude costumes but... nope. People dress as human versions of the characters. The costumes themselves are quite good- I admit, I kind of like seeing how people do Rainbow Dashs mane-as-hair- but it still seems odd to me. Granted, regular cosplay seems a little strange (.embarrassing, a and kind of fun) too, so...
  11. Alas! My Little Ryshadium didn't make it past production. There's totally a Vin Pony though. The Ponification of the Cosmere has begun! EDIT... drat. There's a trend on tumblr for 'Ask a Pony' blogs, done in character as certain MLP related things; cannon characters, AU characters, characters in relationships, etc. I'm tempted to start an 'Ask Vin Pony' tumblr now.
  12. ...oh god.Richard Rahl: Knight Radiant. "It's okay to take over the world when I do it!"
  13. Cunning students can divine his true identity because, after spreading gossip, he can be seen running away, giggling to himself.
  14. Aw man! Professor Blushweavers class is already full? How does she get so many students...?
  15. I stand by my earlier comments, that I dislike Shasnah because it ruins my head canon idea for how, and who, Jasnah is. That said, I would not object to Shallan being in love with her, regardless of whether those feelings are reciprocated or not. And since I don't want to go for the obvious votes of Adolins, or Kaladin, I'm might vote Shasnah... albeit it a very strange, not-exactly-a-relationship Shasnah. Unles I'm allowed to want Shasnah and asexual!Jasnah/Kasnah at the same time. Which would be convenient. Let the bidding war for my on-so-important vote begin!
  16. What. Dumbledore, the man who manipulated a seventeen year old boy into committing suicide-by-Voldemort, is a better man than Gandalf? I really need to process this, and get back to you, because I can't understand how anyone could believe Dumbledore is a better man than Gandalf; I can easily see Gandalf as being wise, kind, compassionate and funny. As for courage, when you stand toe-to-toe with a Balrog and sacrifice yourself to save your companions... I think you can be considered brave. And that's. It considering the actions that happen offscreen or in the past.
  17. I can't tell you guys how disappointed I will be if the last scene of the Stormlight Archives isn't Shallan wandering down a beach with a can of gasoline and a match. "I am a stick!" "Hello again, my old friend."
  18. Huh. I guess it might depend on whether or not it's even possible for Nightblood to form a "bond" with someone. After all, he doesn't dissipate into mist or anything like a normal shardblade, and he needs to be carried around like a normal sword... If he can be bonded like a spren, it doesn't sound impossible. His childish-ness might even strike people who haven't read Warbreaker as being like Syl was at the begining, in which case an intelligence booster would kind of be the logical way to go... Though, if he does gain the ability to appear and vanish like a normal Shardblade, would he then become some sort of a spren? If not... I would assume bonding yourself with something that is animate and speaking might backfire somehow.
  19. Everyone stole all the good greetings already. Guess I could try asking your House Words or something... Oh well. Welcome! Glad to see I'm not the only one who found Elantris a tough book to get through.
  20. Hey! Malliw! That's going a bit far don't you think? What did she ever do to you? Okay, I'll admit it. Even I didn't expect Pony Cows.
  21. 'Love' is a bit of a strong word; I enjoy the character, and Shallan was my favourite plot line in Way of Kings. I admit, my interest in her kind of dived a little bit with Words of Radance, because I felt like she was overly successful, particularly in comparison to Kaladin in WoK... but I suppose that's person preference. I have to admit though, I am fascinated at seeing how the whole Veil/Shallan thing works out. I love questions of identity, duality etcetera, and I admit; I'd be totally on-board with it if Shallan ended up completing her 'apprenticeship' under the Ghostbloods and became an antagonist. I don't think it will happen... but I imagine there will be some conflict between who Shallan is and the face she puts on, whether that is in front of the Radiants, the Ghostbloods, or both.
  22. You know, Shallan was pretty much my favorite point of view characetr in Way of Kings. Maybe it's because I happened to pick up the book shortly after graduation, and the Shallan/Jasnah scholarship storyline really struck a chord with me. I admit, upon my first read through, my immediate reaction to it was the old "main characters of opposite genders? Looks like Shalladin is happening", and that was something which bothered me, because I felt like it was an overdone trope. Frankly... I was more or less convinced of Shallarin as the future ship, on the strength of Feathers essays about it. And it remains, probably, my preferred Shallan ship, since I really, really, really hope that Jasnah' dislike of marriage, her comments to Shallan about it etc aren't setting her up as a lesbian. Personally, my head canon for Jasnah is that she is is asexual; baring that, if she does turn out to be a straight female, I want her and Kaladin to at least have some scenes together. (And if you're curious... if Jasnah was a lesbian, I guess I'd be fine with it. I would just prefer it if she was a character who was opposed to marriage and thew herself into study because those were her passions, not because she isn't interested in men.) So... I guess I'm not voting? I dislike the possibility of a love triangle. I dislike Shalladin, because that seems too cliché. I dislike Shadolin because I'm not convinced it's going to work out in the end (though I prefer that to Shalladin). I dislike Shasnah because it interferes with my preferred perceptions of Jasnah's character. And I dislike Shallarin because, as much as I liked teasing Feather and imagining her groans when Shallan insulted him... they really don't seem like a compatible couple anymore. Or at least, not right now.

    Mraize

I don't think we've seen Mraise anywhere before. I don't have my copy of WoR to hand, but the implication I got from it was that he was a world-hopper, had some kind of relationship with Hoid, and had a fairly distinctive appearance with a twisted hand. The last part is important because I would be very surprised if Mraize doesn't make an anonymous cameo outside of Stormlight Archive sometime before the end.
  24. Actually, I remember Gaimans Neverwhere being quite clean. I also remember not really liking it though, so... take that with what it's worth.
  25. Yes, the Old Kingdom Trilogy is much better than the Old Trilogy a Kingdom. Maybe I should change my avatar to Ditzy Doo instead... Anyway, as for other 'clean' fantasy... I'm sure there is more, I'm just hesitant to recommend anything without having read them. It dawns upon me how limited my library is.
