  1. ...damnation. You know it's bad when a town of brainwashing, equal signs cultists are the better option.
  2. Guys. Tolkien was a linguist. Brandon has a magic system based entirely on words. If Slowswift gets to Sell, he is gonna hack that system so bad.
  3. Slowswift as a worldhopper? ...That might be kind of cool. I was prepared to just wrte it off as "Mistborn need not make sense", but it would be kind of cool if there were some other fantasy author cameos in books. Nothing major- I don't want them to do anything big- but it would be kind of cool to see cosmere homages to Tolkien,Martin, Jordan, etc running around the universe. ...Am I the only one who is picturing, like, an Avengers team-up of the greatest fanatsy novellists ever and it is the best thing?
  4. "Beyond Kirk... Beyond Spock... Beyond your Imagination!" ...What, I'm a Transformers fan. So the first thing I imagined was Scotty holding the matrix of Leadership Warp Coil technobable in the air.
  5. And then he makes contingency plans to kill the Justice League. Because that's what Wayne does. ...Sorry, I think the comic tlk confused me, and I forgot Batman was a different Wayne. Anyway- glad the bandolier idea isn't completely useless!
  6. Huh. If the Lead Worshipper isn't totally on-board with things, I'm starting to question my devotion to this cult. Knew I should have joined Our Town instead...
  7. I think the universe is trying to tell you something. On the 17th Shard, you may be like as unto a god, but in the real world, you are as fragile as any other. Clearly the only solution is to jack yourself into the Matrix and live there forever. ...Also, glad to hear Bliss is okay.
  8. Didn't Brookes establish the "Shannara is Future!Earth" thing in his first book? I mean... maybe I'm misremembering. But I could have sworn there was some scene where Allannon was talking to the main character (Shea?) and mentioned nuclear weapons. (Not related to Brandom, of course; I'm just curious. I stopped reading that series halfway through the second Quadrilogy.)
  9. So, some Abrams!Trek 3 News, bullet pointed for maximum laziness.
  10. WoR Spoilers
  11. Are you suggested that the lost loathsome creature Hoid and the recipeint of the letter have ever known, is Scabbers? Because that would be awesome.
  12. Thanks Galerider! I'm sure you're last words were meant as endearment, instead of blasphemy.
  13. I'm actually fine with the resolution of the scene- but I admit, a large part of that is because I read LotR at about the same time I read MacBeth. From what I understand, Tolkien dislike how metaphorical some of the aspects of that play were; I definitely remember reading somewhere that, as a child, he was disappointed when the forest marching on Macbeth's castle were just soldiers in forest garb, rather than trees... and then presumably that led to him making actual, walking trees to take down Isengard. I assume the same can be said for the Eowyn sequance (being a woman v cesarean birth)... but I also think it's a bit cooler. I admit, I love female action heroes. I love it when a female character is awesome*, and I think the "no man can kill me" setup works really well because up to this point in the book (and, really, in Tolkien's contemporary culture) women soldiers are unheard of. Everyone thinks Eowyn is bizarre for wanting to go to war. That set up, of all male armies, enforces the Witch Kings position... and then he gets taken down. I like it. *when it's done well, like Eowyn or Vin. Too many novels include "bad chull warrior women" that are awful, but thats not what this is about.
  14. "Perfect! I guess we're done he-" She stopped as the wolf entered and started speaking. For a second, a childish look of indignity crossed her muzzle- then she grinned. "I want the talking dog too."
  15. Not posting anything relevant to anything. Just wanted to say, Blackhoof? That avatar is awesome.
  16. That is something that makes alot of sense- and I think makes even more sense (and is even more interesting) if you think of Superman's origins. It's part of why he finds himself at odds with the government or Lex Luther; they cannot conceive that a guy with godly powers is using them to help people because it's the right thing to do. Superman's philosophy is very naive, but it's also incredibly powerful, because it all boils down to "I just want to help people". Again, comics have kind of built enough history around him that people sort of accept that's the case (Lex excepting, of course)... and it does set up something itneresting for this movie. The idea that "I want to help people" is as alien a thought to everyone as Superman himself.
  17. I'm sure I saw them referred to as this somewhere, by someone, because I am not that clever... but I can't find it. Anyway, the four ponies from the end of Season Five? From now on, my headcanon "group name" for them (like the Mane Six) is the Elite Four. Because Pokémon. (Does that mean Starlight Glimmer is Blue? Because that makes a horrifying amount of sense.) Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought that was familiar lol
  18. "I am no man" is the best line in fantasy literature. I think that moment is my favorite in the entire trilogy, and one of my favorite moments in literature, period.
  19. I... will review this. Eventually. Aside from my ponyfiction crises, I'm sort of busy, and historical fiction isn't really my thing... but I will comment on this! Anyway... an idea I had a little while ago, but, frankly, I just don't know what to do with it. If you know about sci-fi, you've heard the term "Space Opera". If you haven't... their basically the sci-fi equivalent of Epic Fantasy. Battlestar Galactica, for instance, is Space Opera. (Star Wars might be? Its a grey area, between Space Opera and Futuristic Epic Fantasy) Anyway, I thought it would be kind of fun to do a space opera story, with all the tropes of that... through the prism of a Soap Opera. So, love triangle play out in absurdist soap Opera style ways ("You had an affair with my clone!"), deaths are overturned the way they are on a Soap ("I downloaded my mind into a robot body"), etc. I think it could be a fun idea if you had a crazy imagination.
  20. Damnation Argent. Now my innocent pony eyes can't unsee it. Side note: Eowyn is awesome, and one of my favourite characters in fiction. So cool username!
  21. I hope you guys remember that when I publish my epic fantasy series about Paladin, the ex-slave turned soldier for Lightlord Dalenar. More seriously... There's also the problem of pointing out where peoples ideas come from. Two people can reach similar conclusions and concepts without one necessarily have stolen from the other. (For personal examples... one of my magic systems is suspiciously similar to Emperors Soul, but I actually had the idea before I knew about Brandon; it was based on my OCD. Or a different idea I had during my university years, for a trilogy where each book was hundreds of years apart, going from epic fantasy to space opera...which is kind of what Brandon is doing with the Misrbirn trilogy.)
  22. I predate Kobold. Somehow, I didn't realize this eater of upvotes was in our midst until it was too late. To be fair, I don't think anyone could have predicted him breaking the reputation ceiling the way he did. I remember when Featherwriter was one of the highest ranked members on the board, and the amount she had seemed absurdly high for someone who wasn't Brandon or Peter.
  23. "Twenty percent. And your allegiance, of course."
