  1. You are entitled to your beliefs, and most of your post was civil and respectful. But don't call Church leaders- or anyone- hateful bigots. Throwing around names will not contribute to thoughtful discussion, nor is it a good prelude to what you write next. It makes you look unkind and unprofessional. It's offensive, to be blunt.I don't mean to offend you or start an argument. Please don't take this the wrong way. But you just called me the same things by association. And I don't appreciate that. Edit: Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't mean to be mean or anything. It was late at night, it was prompted in large part because of my extreme dislike of the word 'bigot' (been called it before and it hurts), and now I feel absolutely awful for posting it at all. Sorry again, a million times over, and have a root beer on me.
  2. Can I be editor as in Fix All the Grammatical Errors? I can do the entertainment section.
  3. Phew. Even though I know the Shard is nice, I was irrationally scared to post something like that on the internet. Thanks to everyone for being so nice. It makes it so much easier to have intelligent and honest discussion. Just a comment on the article Slowswift recommended: it was fabulous. I just have to share one quote: Just this. So much this. I'm definitely not referring to anyone here. This conversation has been quite the opposite. But hate does come from both sides, and it really doesn't help the side one supports. I wish everybody in the world would accept that yelling at someone will not make them agree with you. Sigh. Now I'm sad. But we have 17th Shard! The loveliest of internet places. I'm so lucky that the only fan site I join is one so awesome. More hugs for everybody. And donuts.
  4. I strongly believe that men and women are equal but different. The strongest person in the world will always be a man; a man will never be able to give birth. There are many differences between genders, and they complement each other. Both are needed. I personally believe marriage is between a man and a woman and that the only genders are male and female. I'm very traditional in that respect. But I won't insult you if you believe differently! I won't care if you're LGBT (and Q now, right?), I just care how you act. Whether or not you're a good person. Judging someone based on just one thing like that is, quite frankly, ridiculous. (To clarify, this is in response to Mr. Angry Pants' comments. Whew, what a mess.) I apologize in advance if I've offended anyone. I don't mean to do it! Call me out on it if it is and I'll clarify.
  5. I'm female. That's basically it. I like robotics and mechanics. I hate a lot of stereotypical 'girly' things. I don't like pink. I don't wear makeup or follow trends. I love playing Ultimate Frisbee early in the mornings, even if I'm the only girl. I don't have any 'crushes', thank you very much. Nevertheless, still female.
  6. So begins two weeks away from internet. Well, I might get a little something in this weekend, but does anyone really care? 0.o

When are you all going to stop asking if we care? Of course we do!

Aw, thanks, Slowswift. I'm at a family reunion, but I found internet. Next week is Girls Camp.

  7. I GETS IT!
  8. Slowswift, I think your explanation nailed it. I was thinking I'd have to explain it. Probably wouldn't have ended up so well put. Kaymyth- what Slowswift said, basically. You're all awesome, and it made me so happy to read your post. I just want to give everybody a big hug after reading these. Come on guys, everybody in.
  9. I know this is old news but I am so jealous of you I'm gonna die. Not cry, die. You see, our little town has about 10,000 residents, most of whom do not speak, let alone read, in English. Our library is half the size of my house. And it's one story. I'm going to be drooling over that picture of the Salt Lake library for the next three hours. Thanks, Slowswift.
  10. ...Metal. I don't think I've seen you around the forums, but you're in my computer monitor. And on my pencil. And my watch. Welcome! The cookies someone will undoubtedly try to offer you at some point have spikes in them. If you've read Mistborn, you know Hemalurgy. Those kinds of spikes. You have been warned. Anyway. Welcome again!
  11. We're over in the Social Groups forum. The link's in my signature. We're pretty awkward. (I was going to say awesome, but I realized that I needed a more accurate adjective.)
  12. I like that idea! A sharder newspaper! Put in some interesting new theories, some Sanderson memes, maybe some welcome messages for new members. It wouldn't have to be big, and it could be just a once a week thing, but we could try it out.
  13. ...THE COOKIE IS SPIKED Aw dang, the Dark Alley got here first again. Sad face. Not spiked as in alcohol, spiked as in spikes. Hemalurgic spikes. The cookie has spikes in it. Welcome to the Shard! Have an upvote and an awkward handshake or something! (I'm from the Knights Awkward. We're not very sociable. Sorry.)
  14. Mistrunner yells "LANGUAGE!" after him, but no one seems to notice. She sinks back behind Words of Radiance, muttering something about "Old people these days" and "Where's Oathbringer?"
  15. Um... definitely not that. Maybe miso soup, which is actually really really good. I like seaweed. Tasty. No... who is he?
  16. Us junkies should get together once a month, maybe have some pizza, and try to talk about something other than Sanderson books (spoiler: it won't work).
  17. 17th Shard Disussion seems to be where it is now. I agree, I've often wished for an undo button.
  18. I knew this! *does happy dance* Not sure how commonly known this is, but when playing the bugle, as there aren't any valves, the only notes you can play are C and G. Notes are changed by embouchure alone. Of course, you can tune it differently, but usually that's the way it goes.
  19. Yeah. It's getting a little heated... happy place... happy place... I do think the original question of whether the Cosmere is a universe or just a galaxy is an intriguing one. It's never specifically stated that I know of, but I always just assumed that it was a universe. Would the shard that "Just wants to survive" have found a way out of it? It's unlikely, but interesting nonetheless.
  20. I agree, and this is one of the reasons I got... don't murder me... bored with Game of Thrones. I have a short attention span, and the writing style, where he describes everything in detail, was likely very beautiful but I found myself skipping entire paragraphs because I was bored. Sanderson's writing feels less like writing and I can get into the story much faster. It's like you said, less obtrusive. Not to mention cleaner. Still scarred from GoT...
  21. Last night I had a dream that included Elantris (looking oddly like a park), me as an Elantrian (complete with stubbed toe), a Nutella sandwich, and my old elementary school.
  22. Aw, I get what you mean, Lark. I've had some friends like that. They're usually okay people, and I didn't want to cut them out of my life or anything, but... Yeah. Hard. Because there doesn't seem to be a place for this, here's my testimony to how wonderful Brandon Sanderson's works are. I'll admit it. In the fourth grade, I was freakishly bored with all the books I was given. My reading level was around eleventh grade and most people around where I lived were English-language learners, and though I could find a couple books I liked (Just So Stories, for one) it was hard. I was considering reading Harry Potter for the twelfth time when my mom handed me her copy of Elantris. I wasn't expecting much, to be honest. It looked long. It looked boring. But she and my brothers kept telling me it was great. I read the prologue. And I was hooked. I don't remember how fast I read it, but I spent all my spare time with it. I went everywhere with it clutched in my hands. And when I did finish, I wanted more. So began my addiction to fantasy and, more specifically, Sanderson's works. He started me reading again. He got me off Harry Potter. And he gave me awesome in book form. So, that's my story of Sanderson redemption. Seems kinda silly put that way, but now it's out there. Let all know the awesomeness of Sanderson!
  23. I keep telling people, he's actually Hoid. He's simply transcribing his adventures through the cosmere. And you all know what this means... Reckoners is cosmere.
  24. He met a sticky end.The largest desert in the world is in Antarctica. Mozart had a musically talented older sister, and it was her playing that inspired him to play. They played together sometimes, but she didn't get the musical training (and immortality) he got because, you know, gender.
