  1. Also, in the first draft of WoK, Taln had his scene in the prologue.
  2. Could be that they are not utilizing the shards to their full potential right now, merely baring them, instead of wielding them. I dunno.
  3. If what Preservation did to Vin is any indication, than holding Adonalsium would expand Mailliw to become beyond human. Though how much control, or even how much Mailliw is even left, is anyone's guess.
  4. I think genocide is a little extreme, at least at first. But this is a world where you could, with (relative) ease, create massive, if bland, structures in an instant. I'm all for imprisoning the Parshendi with a gun trained on their head in case our walls can't contain the storm form. Yes, genocide is distasteful, and there are ideas that may circumvent it's need, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
  5. Logically, I think that the cryptics should be having romances with honorspren, not feuds. Then again, teasing and arguing are some of the surest signs of love .
  6. I believe that full feruchemists do exist, they're just rare and they keep to themselves. It's the crossing (of the streams) of the genes that mixes everything up. Beyond that, I believe people have asked Brandon, and he said, in his typical info withholding manner, that they would have Investiture from both Shards.
  7. I'm not sure that quote is a great example of the character-reader knowledge gap. I mean, in The Book Thief, that line is literally said by Death, the creature that harvests souls. Of course he thinks Nazi Germany is wonderful; for him, it is. Plenty of souls to harvest, which is always fun.
  8. When I look at Amaram, I definitely don't see Honor. But that's okay. Honor is not an essential facet of being a morally strong man. Not to say that Amaram is one, but our definition of "good" has definitely been skewed a little bit by having Honor be the protagonist God with Odium being that bad guy god. It is necessary to keep in mind that both are, ultimately, part of something that is undeniably good. Adonalsium, the force of Creation, which we also know has some opposition, which is (almost certainly) bad. So that's important. In all honesty, doing the honorable thing can be (a). morally wrong, and (. plain stupid. Letting Kaladin keep the shards would have been b. In this case, it was also a, but that's alright, considering what could have happened if he had let Kaladin keep them. From Amaram's point of view, Kaladin was a random darkeye, not the bad a soon-to-be radiant we know. Amaram letting Kal keep the shards would have been like the President letting a homeless, or lower class person, keep a nuclear weapon because he found it. Killing him might even be justified, if it could save lives. Remember, (Amaram says) he had to be talked into taking it. In conclusion: We need more to make judgement on Amaram himself. But this one act was definitely a good decision, and morally acceptable as well, when you consider what a Plate and Blade really is. (Also, his act may save Roshar, depending on how the SA spins out. )
  9. Sheez. First thought after I saw this was, "dang. In WoR, they already start on a boat. If Jasnah and Shallan weren't Surgebinders, they would be screwed". It doesn't matter that they don't sail during highstorms. I can't imagine building a port to weather that. Wow, Satsuoni. Amazing.
  10. Ha, you're right. I did a mind fart (pardon my French) and thought that Stonewards, with their vaguely masculine sounding name, must be more honory than cultivationy, or on the honor side of the Honorspren/Cryptics feud. Actually, I'd suppose it's more likely that they would be Cultivationy, given how they are on the right side of the insect thing on the inside of the WoK cover. Me, being clever, was trying to say that the Cryptics were not involved with the Feverstone Keep, because that would have benefited the bond, instead of breaking it. Of course, that thought is completely inane and probably due to a lack of sleep. Yeah, unfortunately, the Recreance part of the theory really doesn't have as much evidence or anything, really, compared to the first part. Other than my intuition, which says it's awesome, of course. Intuition is kind of magical. With it, plot holes, or holes in trains of thought, disapear!
  11. I guess you could be right in that the spiritual realm involves your connections with others, which may include honor-ness, but the cognitive realm seems to be a major focus of the SA, with Shadesmar coming into play and what not. Also, honorspren, along with cryptics, live in the cognitive realm. And also, @vikorr, the Feverstone Keep incident was comprised of honor radiants.
  12. I don't know how long Roshar year is compared to an earth year. All that I do know is that they must be pretty close, just so that it doesn't break the average reader's brains. Like, if it was half an earth year, then Kaladin would essentially be a really buff ten year old. (This could be true, since Rosharan humans are genetically different then us humans. It would be really weird, though ). Contrarily, if it was significantly longer, than Dalinar would be an incredibly feeble character without his shardplate, and his personal identity would be incredibly different. I am inclined to believe that they are the same.
  13. I'm getting a stormfather is to honorspren as nightwatcher is to wyndle spren. That is, the stormfather and the nightwatcher are splinters, of honor and cultivation, respectively. So, the honorspren (as in the spren of the honor orders) and the cultivationspren (as in the spren of the cultivation orders) regard these big spren as patriarchs or leaders.
  14. You're right that I am mAking a big assumption there. And tbh, I have no idea about Cryptics. I assume that they would be similar. Yeah, the Feverstone Keep part is really just something that sort of clicked, like intuition. Not nearly as logic based as the rest.
  15. Okay dokay. Here is theory: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5428-nahel-bonding-theory-of-cognitivity-and-the-recreance/ And it is meh. But lots of quotes, which is always good.
  16. Does this mean that I missed a bunch of levels? There are a bunch of cool powers I will never have. NOOOOO!
  17. First off, much credit to vikorr! He is the person who set this off in my brain case. Second off, if this has been said before, then I'm sorry! And finally... the theory! Alright, ladies and gentlemen. The main of my theory lies on the principle that a spren bond has to do largely with your cognitive aspect. Which is not only decided by how you view yourself, but how others view you. In the Emperor's Soul, Shai tells us, It is important to know that when Shai describes the Cognitive Realm, she says that the way an object is viewed before she says and how it views itself. Which brings us to our next point. When Syl is talking about what Kaladin used to be, and why she followed him, she says, A large part of the reason that Syl joined with Kaladin was because that others saw him as upholding his honor. Even when he was a wretch, he still held some of that respect. Now, onto the recreance. There are two death rattles that are particularly significant: Emphasis on the love. In it's absence, the bond dissolves (which relies on the conjecture we get, finally, by moving onto Feverstone Keep). From <WoR Spoilers!> We know that many spren died in this event. They died because not only did the knights Radiant forsake their vows, the people of Feverstone Keep visibly saw it as a betrayal. They had thought of the Knights Radiant as enemies and traitors, and were prepared to fight for their lives. So... Tadaa! In culmination: A massive part of the nahel bond is having an honorable cognitive aspect, which is largely determined by how others view you.
  18. UPVOTE FOR BOTH! For you, AonarFaileas, that is a good list. And I like classifying things like that. And for you, vikorr, upvote for totally owning the world! I will make theory. Good theory. Much thanks to you.
  19. Hmmmm... Kurk, where do the buggers come into this? Besides, when they want to make new women (or men), they go through a completely different process.
  20. Hey, that's a good question. What are the dragons like? Of course, it would probably be RAFO'd, but at least then we would know that they probably aren't stereotypical fantasy beasts. Then again, knowing Brandon, that's gauranteed anyways.
  21. @swimmingly: I doubt that darkness has been near the Shattered Plains, if only because he hasn't fought Kaladin. Kaladin has done some morally correct but legally wrong things, as well as his surgebinding, which is enough for darkness to attack.
  22. Well, we're missing 3 of lerasium's powers, you know. If it is anything like atium, then it will have 2 allomantic property, one feruchemical, and one hemalurgic (atium had 1 allomantic, one feruchemical, and 2 hemalurgic). My reasoning is as follows: Each of the God Metals has an extra power in it's native magic system. Atium, because it is of ruin, has double hemalurgy, in that it can be a spike for atium as well as literally anything else, as a super spike. Also, the extra power has universal application, in that you can use the atium spike on anyone for anything. If we extend this to lerasium, then we would see that the turn into super mistborn thing is it's universal use. It would work for anyone. That means that we're missing it's misting and feruchemical use.
  23. Hey, guys. The spamming has come. Prepare yourself, but be on the look out for vakikaran. I hear that they're good at pretty much everything.
  24. My thoughts: It depends on how the ocean reacts to highstorms. My best bet, though: Submarines for the win. EDIT: Upvote for your name.
  25. Weiry's got it.
