  1. Yes The Nalthis questions essentially confirm exactly what I had thought. Nice writeup.
  2. Lift is a very awesome character from one of the Words of Radiance interludes
  3. Just as a further note to reinforce our conclusion here. I am nearing the end of my well of ascension reread and during the siege of Luthadel Breeze attempts to sooth Koloss at least twice and still makes no mention of any feeling of a wall. One of those times was when a giant beast of a koloss was bearing right down on him so he soothing by instinct and most likely flaring then.
  4. Fnord stood studying the list in the safehouse as people passed by, never giving him a second glance. So many names! How can we possibly trust everyone in a crew this size? He noted with resignation that his own name had already been concealed by a chance splash of rum. For interests sake Fnord is based a bit on how I used to be, although I have exaggerated it a bit for him. For some reason people had a very difficult time seeing me even when they knew I was there somewhere.
  5. Thankyou for all your work with this site Chaos (and the other mods/admins). It is definitely one of the best I've seen
  6. I just took a look through. In "Rating Articles, Blog Posts, Gallery Images" it talks about a 5 star rating. This is still true for blogs but I take it that this was replaced with the rep system the rest of the site uses for the gallery and articles. The list of forums on the site needs a serious update. The blog feature. Out of curiosity more than an actual desire to do one I had a bit of a search to see how to start one on here, and came up completely blank. It might also be worth mentioning that the News page is the easiest place to access others blogs as I believe many people don't go there at all. I think it might be somewhat helpful to have a quick note explaining how to link to a specific post on the site. It is a simple system but I had no clue how to do it till Kurk told me. Also maybe a line or two on how to post images for people who are new to forums in general. (Like I was ) I hope some of that is helpful. Most of the guide is quite good
  7. @Meta, It's in the vessel with the pestle! The flagon with the dragon holds the brew which is true! @Mailliw Edit: @Hero, I like it. I think we could totally swing it as a duraluminmind. It's close enough right?
  8. I haven't played a lot yet. I've mostly played mage so far and I don't have an awesome custom deck or many new cards. I'm still up for it though Having checked now my tag is just "Claincy".
  9. Sure thing. I mostly jumped in the deep end. I had been a player in a single session each of: -dnd -Shadowrun -World of darkness -Prime directive and vaguely touched gurps but never played a proper session. Then I ran a session of the MAG, and then I began a campaign that initially had 4 crews and now has 5. Taking it niiiice and slow And yes, we are trying out a cross-world battle. Herowannabe (who recently joined 17s as well) had written some very good rules for shardblades and plate and I wanted to try them out
  10. Fair enough. I simply feel that it is less likely that this would be one such secret. I would have thought at the least that Breeze would know if not Kelsier. It is possible that they were somehow unaware of it though and that Vin never tried to sooth someone burning copper.
  11. I, personally, like it....a lot. Some rpg's like dnd are very rule constrained. There is are rules everywhere and it is like the dungeon master sets a challenge for the players to overcome. Like most crpg's really. The MAG focuses far more on narrative. It is very freeform and the rules are a lot less set and more up to determination. As a result it is harder to get used to than the more rule-centric rpg's but it can be very rewarding. Sometimes it is more like collaboratively telling a narrative with dice rolls helping decide outcomes. In that sense it is probably great for an aspiring writer. If you want to get some idea of what it can be like, over at steelministry we have a quick game running where we have a group of powerful characters attempting to kill the lord ruler. (We are all about to die.) That one is readable without creating an account if you want to take a look. Of course, you are welcome to create an account We don't have any openings in major campaigns at the moment but we always advertise spots for new players there first and we are happy to have people jump on. We also recently also started up "The arena" for having a bit of fun with the combat side of things which is also visible to anyone and the first combat there has just begun. Futile efforts (the aforementioned game where we are trying to kill tlr) can be found here: http://steelministry.com/viewforum.php?f=53&sid=2c27cd3b3f2c06d1ace04371c5fda4a7 Another good place to take a look at is the crafty games forums. The forums are a bit of a graveyard at the moment but there are some worthwhile topics there. http://www.crafty-games.com/forum/index.php?board=21.0 If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask Edit: I know that you have already seen this Quiver but I'll link it here as a reference for anyone interested in this who hasn't: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4815-essence-marks-and-allomantic-gold/#entry79547
  12. I too got into the closed beta in the last wave and I'd be up for a couple of games sometime. I'll edit in my tag here when I get the chance to double check what it is. It is probably lord_Ffnord or similar though.
  13. There are a great many excellent posts on this site that through misfortune or bad timing don't get the attention they deserve. This is a topic for those posts, and other excellent posts that you feel are worth sharing for any who missed them. The way this works: Find a post from the person who posted above you that you think is especially valuable or upvoteworthy and link it. It could be about something cool they have done, a clever theory they made or just a funny joke. Some people may be able to recall some of the more interesting posts by some other members. But for the rest of us we can search through the posts that they have got rep from and choose one that you think has special merit. The point of this thread is to spread around some warm fuzzies and to highlight especially awesome posts that other people have made, not to rep farm, so just make sure that you personally don't write every second post on the page For an example of how this works (in case it isn't clear): -Kurkistan posts a link to a post by the person who posted above him. -Chaos posts a link to one of Kurkistans forms posts. -Aether posts a link to where Chaos was talking about the new rep levels etc. You can put more in the post than just the link of course For anyone who doesn't know how to link to a specific post here: On the top right of every post is the number that post is in the thread. Right click that number and select "Copy link address". (Thanks Kurk) Have fun guys =D (PS. I don't really care if the first person to post doesn't link one of my posts, as I said, the purpose of this is not rep farming )
  14. There was a mixture of misunderstandings and poor wordings between a small number of people that snowballed into something more toxic, it was just getting worse when Rubix locked the thread. Hopefully we can avoid that happening again.
  15. I agree that any cameo's from the dead are best left to pure rp with no game involvement and they still shouldn't be too frequent. I wonder how many people will actually read this....
  16. No offense there whatsoever. I think that challenging any theory to see both sides is a good idea. I actually wasn't thinking of the ministry hunting skaa when I was talking about the soothing vs smokers/mistborn. I was actually thinking of the nobility who are always trying to work out which other nobility are mistborn. I think that the feeling of pushing against a wall is very distinct from the normal absence of any feedback with soothing and so would be a rapidly discovered phenomenon if it occurred against smokers. As there is absolutely no mention of anything like that in the books I doubt that it is the case. Does that make sense? Over the course of the final empire nobility with copperclouds up would have been targeted by soothers a multitude of times. I simply do not believe that they all would never have noticed this seemingly very obvious sensation. It wouldn't be all that useful or necessary for the steel ministry given their inquisitors as you said. But the nobility would certainly use it. I think that any haemalurgic creature, kandra, koloss and all other possible creatures, could potentially be controlled through emotional allomancy to varying degrees of difficulty. What I was agreeing with was that for any of these creatures, any light soothing would provide no feedback as per normal but any heavy soothing, basically flared or duralumin enhanced soothing, would get that feedback. Edit: Finally found the quote I was looking for.
  17. Your first point is possible, though I will remain doubtful that they would have made huge progress for the same reasons Darnam outlined. Most importantly of the points is the sheer complexity of heamalurgy, given that tlr was experimenting for what must have been at least most of 1000 years and he had very little success in creating anything new and I expect he had more, er, "resources" available to experiment with than they did. On the other hand in one of the annotations Brandon said something about how Rashek never managed to create another haemalurgic race other than the kandra and koloss he created while he held the power of the well and had Ruin's aid. This actually doesn't preclude him from having discovered potentially very many other secrets of heamalurgy. (After all, we do know that he knew a LOT more than was generally known.) I would really like that. Then again I just love the steel alphabet in general as may have been mildly obvious
  18. Uh oh! I had better hurry up and hit shard before the change happens. Just so I at least reached it once Seriously though, this is cool. Having more rep levels will be very nice
  19. I would guess that DigitalBusker is right and that the only time you feel that resistance is when you are pressing powerfully against the emotions of someone who is spiked. If it happened for people protected by copper then soothers could be used to find smokers and mistborn and that doesn't sound right at all.
  20. Very glad this is running again It is nice to have something happening in the RP forum for a change. There are actually a reasonable number of roleplayers on the site but we do most of it on steelministry or the inquisition so this board stays pretty dead.
  21. It is definitely a good change. With the amount of traffic on the site now, 15 posts was more the norm than the exception
  22. Fnord is an expert on stealth. (Yup, I'm doing that) For some reason everyone seems to keep forgetting he exists This is, however, extraordinarily useful for stealth. To represent this, if you approve meta,I will write a small part of every post in white.(Except this one as I am on my phone)
  23. Brandon talks about it in the hero of ages annotations. I can't remember the details but from memory he chose the mists to only snap certain types of mistings and he chose that 1/16 of the mistings the mists did snap would be seers. He did this intentionally as a sign to the people that the mists and the mist-sickness were more than they appeared, which, in the end, was successful. Due to a need for sleep I don't have time to find the specific chapter annotation where he talks about it, but here is a link to the hero of ages annotations if you didn't know where to find them. http://brandonsanderson.com/annotation-mistborn-3-dedication/
  24. The way I take it is that the seer will be able to react perfectly to one of the shadows he sees. However he will have no advantage in picking which one and won't have the mental speed to consider his decision. Operating on atium is more like running on instinct (albiet an instinct that is, in a normal situation, always correct.)
