I'm new here and I don't know how to forum.
Claincy replied to Dat Doge's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Aside from what Kurkistan already said I do have a couple of comments on this. To us, the mists being the deepness was obvious. The mists, such as they are, are very different from anything on our world so it is fairly easy for us to perceive them as some magical threat. But to the people of the final Empire the mists are just normal, a part of the world and they are constantly told by the ministry that the hero defeated the deepness. Sure the skaa fear the mists and that was a clue. However for Vin, remember that Kelsier's first lesson to her was about the mists being theirs, "They hide us, protect us, give us power". Vin's shift from loving the mists to somewhat fearing/distrusting them so this was more of a character climax than a plot climax. Did that make sense? (Or was I just rambling around the point I was trying to make?)- 11 replies

The soothers power will effectively cancel the rioters power. The rioter would change the persons vote, then the soother would negate that vote. So the rioter would lose their vote for no gain. Honestly, the chances of this happening at the moment are very very low. It will become something the rioter should keep in mind if both are still alive nearer the end.

Noob's take on First Book: Mistborn The Final Empire
Claincy replied to Alayala_Radiant's topic in Mistborn
You will learn a lot more about how they are made. Marsh's description about the process being "messy" is a pretty good description though. The Hero;s name was Alendi. There is definitely something big coming Kelsier's death scene still hits me hard whenever I read it. (I've read the final empire ~5-6 times now ) -
@Meta, thansk for giving the poll a try, we shall see how it turns out. I think 36 hours standard with 48 hours if someone requests it would be a good way of working it Apparently some people who hadn't interacted with me before the last game think my name here is Clancy because that was the name of the character I used then. Actually, it's Claincy ; ) Much more unique right?

Yeah that's better Other than that, I dunno. Maybe there could be a link to them in the confirmation email. Then again, I get the feeling most people don't actually read confirmation emails I think what you have done should do the trick ... Ahem, well, that is good to know

Herowannabe, who recently joined this site, created inquisitor emoticons for steelministry some time back which are really cool. I often find myself wanting to use them here as well. So I was wondering how difficult it would be to add them to here as well? (I've checked with Hero and he is perfectly happy with this ) For reference as to what they look like he has images of them in his sig atm. For easy viewing I'll link to one of his posts: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5665-day-1night-1-hook-line-and-death/page-4#entry90423

I don't think it disputes the theory at all to be honest. It is more of a related potential theory. I basically agree with everything you just said
-
This is true. *Does a little happy dance* However I can't imagine the digital version of the expansion costing more than the base game, and you don't really need it anyway. It will be good to have, but it is a long way from being the type of expansion you need to keep playing the game.

They do, however they change at the beginning of each night. I had actually been wondering this, but hadn't got around to asking yet. Partly because I didn't want to do it wrong and throw more suspicion on myself than I already was : P

I've almost finished my most recent well of ascension reread and I don't remember any such occasion. It wouldn't help that the only known characters in the book with soothing or rioting are Vin/Zane/Breeze/Alrianne (yeah yeah, one more at the end )
-
A good plan, except that Peng already said that his powers are changed at the start of the night, so he won't actually get to post a message tonight except in the unlikely case where he gets tin again. A pity, as it could have been a good way of confirming.

A very interesting example, thanks for posting that Tarion. It could be interpreted that they were just judging by how the other members of the crew were reacting, however I don't think so. Can anyone remember any other example of a time in the books when someone is soothing a persons emotions and someone else is rioting the same ones?
-
Fair enough. Though the digital version of the MAG is actually only $15 and at present there are no expansions to buy anyway
-
The biggest problem with this plan is if the inquisitor does have a power that messes with seeking (which I think is not unlikely) and uses it to make the results of the seeking worthless as people have mentioned. Such as by smoking Peng, then we lose a round for our seeker/s. Which means an extra death before they start building up a network of trustworthy people. However, I think it is still worth trying. Btw Peng. If you are the inquisitor and are able to/plan on smoking yourself then this is a very gutsy move. Somewhat insane, but very gutsy : )

@Shiver, I like your translations Fnord was silent for a moment, unsure how to respond to this enthusiastic list-writer. Why is he talking to me? How am I supposed to respond? And what is it with the Survivor, I mean, he didn't survive afterall. With no idea how to respond he instead asked, "Why do you think he was killed now?" an unsettling thought occurred to him, Did the inquisitor wait till now so he could get us all? He would only step forward when he thought it was very important, the death of the crewleader counts as such Most of my arguments there would necessarily be out of character anyway as the whole debate was way too meta to fit in character. The alternative explanation is that I am just having difficult keeping as silent as Ffnord would ; )

So, to be clear as to where I currently stand. I would encourage everyone to vote for no-one at this point. I am still concerned about the possibility of us ending up with one villager voting for someone. However it is becoming clear that what I think is the best case situation, where we get some solid info that we can begin theorizing with, is not going to happen. As a result I think we are then better off taking the risk of losing someone to no gain by trying to lose no-one. I had forgotten earlier that at least 2 votes were needed to kill someone and this helps reduce the risk quite a bit. We still have the problem where the only gain we get is for the seeker to seek a single person while we lose someone during the night which is why I still would have preferred the other path and lots of accusations *shrug*. Maybe part of me just doesn't want to sit around doing nothing for a cycle or two while we get picked off. Yes the seeker will be doing something, but I will just be sitting there quietly hoping that the inquisitor doesn't come for me next..... There's nothing so scary as knowing there is someone trying to kill you (and others) except for knowing that and doing nothing : P Edit: Feeling that there was little more he could say, Ffnord stepped quietly back into a corner and tried to quell the butterflies in his stomach that speaking in front of so many people had caused.

I figure I should probably post something in my defence here for all the people who likely think I am an inquisitor by now. If I am an inquisitor I am either attempting something insanely risky and daring by going forward like I am, or, I am simply terrible at being a spiked. Does me being terrible at being spiked fit with anyone's memory of the last game? I fully admit that I am not being sensible here from the perspective of someone who wants to live. But while I do want to live, I also really want to win. If i die at least my arguments will hopefully have helped us, as a team, win. Nobody other than me has done anything that could be construed as being particularly suspicious at this point other than me. The inquisitor would be downright crazy to be putting themselves front and centre like this at the start of the game. By far the most sensible option for them is to sit in a happy middleground of posting a bit, but not too much, so as to be as forgettable as Fnord is supposed to be Ok, fine, fine. I will vote for no-one for now. I am just worried at the unlikelihood of every single one of the 28 villages deciding not to vote. If one person votes, but no-one else, that would be the worst case scenario. We lose someone and we don't gain the information that I am arguing for. I'm glad you are enjoying them, I am having a lot of fun with them too. Hopefully I am not bringing them to a prematu Edit: sorry if that sounded angry. I'm not re end.

Why is everyone staring at me? Fnord thought. I should probably shut up before I get myself killed. Thing is, the only advantage we have in waiting is to give the seeker more time to build an alliance. If the seeker gets killed and we have spent the last 5-6 days doing nothing we will be in trouble. I get not killing anyone, I really do. It's what I was thinking to start with. But I'm still not sure that it is our best bet. Let's ignore the seeker for the moment (just a moment) and examine the situation where we don't kill or accuse anyone compared to the situation where we do. A: We kill no-one. The inquisitor kills someone that night and we drop from 28 to 27 and that next day we have no more clue who is the inquisitor than we did to start with. On the other hand if.. B: We toss accusations around and someone fairly inevitably dies. We can then start to guess from who was killed that night, who the spiked might be. It isn't hard evidence, but it gives us something to work from. We can start applying psychology instead of spinning round with our eyes shut and seeing who we end up pointing at. But really the biggest problem I have with waiting, is that someone will almost certainly die anyway. With 29 players the inquisitor will almost certainly have soothing or rioting powers and if we try to kill no-one they will just completely anonymously adjust the vote to kill whoever they want. So instead of a 1/29 chance of hitting the inquisitor and potentially gaining some useful info even if we don't get him, we will have a 100% chance of one of us getting killed during the day cycle as well as the night. This is not exactly a desirable outcome. Even taking the seeker building its squad into account. We won't actually be giving them more time this way. So, because we have to start somewhere, I will vote for Aonar at this time as the only sensible thing for the inquisitor to do publicly at this point is join the "kill no-one" club and I doubt they would be the first to post (sorry Aonar, my vote may well change anyway). I also chose Aonar because I didn't feel like going for anyone I murdered last game ; )

It will take rather some time for the seeker to build up a decent sized alliance in a game this size, the rest of us shouldn't be twiddling our thumbs in the meantime. @Aether, Did I? I don't think so. I'm not always going to make it obvious....

Heh, I'm being accused already? That's a shock! No, no it isn't. There is an argument for not killing anyone but truthfully if we don't try to kill someone then tomorrow we will be just as clueless as we were today. (except for whoever the seeker is, however they are rather unlikely to reveal themselves at this point.) If we start flinging around accusations then we can probably get some idea of who the inquisitor might be based on who died. So I support swimmingly in his decision to vote, though I would rather he picked a different target. Do you really think the inquisitor would come out with an unpopular opinion on his/her very first post?

Ok, that being the case, I'm still on the fence as to whether we should hold off voting. If we all vote not to kill anyone then we won't really learn anything from who is killed. Leaving us at square 1 with one less player. In my defence I would hope that the inquisitor would be more subtle than I am being. Edit: Ninja'd by the rule clarification. SO normal voting it is, good My points in favour of killing someone still stand.

I was under the impression that he started like a more limited mistborn but had to sacrifice one everytime he spiked someone. As the spiked person gains the ability of the dead misting, not the sacrificed power. I think we need some Meta clarification here. I could, of course, be completely wrong. Edit: @Jason, yeah, Bob still dies. It is abstaining to vote rather than voting to not kill.

Under the inquisitor rules. I think we can assume that the inquisitor has many abilities and at least 1 vote effecting one. I haven't decided who to guess yet but I do think we should vote for someone. I wonder who is going to kill me first, the inquisitor or the crew....

Yay! It has begun! Fnord stood amidst the crowd, staring at their crewleaders body. Should he run? No one would remember he was ever here. No, it was too soon for that. Surely with so many in the crew they would be able to root out this inquisitor. The chances of hitting the inquisitor with an essentially completely random killing are ridiculously small. Unfortunately the chances that the inquisitor has a vote modifying power are quite high, so we may not be able to avoid a death :/ With that being the case it is perhaps better that we choose who to target than letting the inquisitor choose whomever they will. At least that way we have a chance, however small, of the inquisitor being the one to die. I seem to be arguing against the majority here who think we should try to avoid killing anyone, uh oh. :/

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Claincy replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yeah, different fansites serve different purposes. I'm very happy to be a Sharder, but I am at least as happy that I am part of steelministry as well. The base 17s isn't a great place for roleplaying, it just isn't set up for it as it's focus is different. The inquisition or steelministry (depending on the type of roleplaying) are much better for that, but worse for theorizing. *shrug*
