  1. I believe the days are slightly shorter. I can't remember exactly how much shorter, and I don't really feel like calculating it, but we know one Rosharan year is equal to about 1.1 Earth years. So Kaladin is around 22. There's a comprehensive list of Stormlight Archive character ages from Aether over here.
  2. I like this. It sums up what we know nicely, and is pretty similar to my own feelings on the matter from a while back. The only real place where we differ is that I think a spiritual change isn't necessary in systems where the user never directly interacts with, or never gains, Investiture. (Eg. Forging and Feruchemy.)
  3. It think that would be a neat mechanic, but it might mess with the game too much. Everyone with those abilities would become super cautious about using them, slowing the game down, and towards the endgame, it would give the villagers a huge edge, as they would effectively have four roles they could use as Seekers. I tried to work in a Parshendi role, that changed forms every highstorm, but I couldn't figure out what powers to give them. Warform and Stormform could both serve as several different roles, but what would the other forms do? I could try using the Songs from the epigraphs for inspiration, but thinking off the top of my head, the only other forms they mention are Nightform, Meditationform, Artform, and Scholarform. I also really liked the earlier ideas in this thread about an Artifabrian role, I think if I ever do start a start a game, I'd probably include a variation of that role. Something like being able to grant a single power to one person each night, but after giving one power, it can't be given again until the next storm.
  4. I'm glad people are liking this. @Outis: As to the differences between Shard-severed limbs and still living people who have lost their colour, I think it has to do with what is changed in the soul. Lose of colour associated with BioChroma by my theory changes only a few very specific Spiritual Connections, while Shardblades cut all of the object's Spiritual Connections. If my theory is true, it should be possible do most of the things you described. We know for a fact that there are things BioChroma can do that we're not aware of, and this might go towards explaining them.
  5. Plane rides, it seems, are just as good for theorizing as for making Stormlight Elimination roles. Now, I know what you're thinking; "*sigh* Another baseless theory about Awakening from someone who doesn't like colour as a fuel in Nalthis's magic system." Not exactly. I've always thought colour was a little weird, but I was willing to roll with it until I read Words of Radiance. Each time a Shardblade cuts a limb, rather than through the spine, it (the limb) is described as turning grey. Until now, I had assumed a Shardblade's cut had the same affect as having a physical injury that paralyses a limb. But the greyness is doesn't fit that. The logical conclusion is that when something's Spiritual Connections are cut, for some reason, they lose their colour and turn grey. This means that an object's colour, or the wavelength of light it reflects, must be decided primarily by the Spiritual Aspect. Now, what else do we know of that turns things grey? Awakening. This makes me think that there may be something more to Awakening's power source. I still think that in a sense, colour is the fuel, but rather than the pigment itself providing power, it is the object's Spiritual Aspect. I think that Awakening breaks/changes an object's Spiritual Connection to light, causing it to reflect a wider spectrum. Ie. Turning it a light grey/white. Why exactly Awakening needs the energy from a broken Spiritual Connection, I'm not sure. I personally think that it provides the impetus for imprinting a Command on an object, but that's just a guess. TL;DR: I think that when colour is taken in Awakening, it happens fundamentally in the Spiritual Realm, rather than the Physical. Once, again, I'm sending this from my iPhone, so please excuse any typos.
  6. There's lots of neat stuff going on in here. I'm getting excited for the next game. During the plane ride to Costa Rica, I was more than a little bored, and having copies of WoK and WoR in hand,I tried to put together a Stormlight Elimination. It's super rough, and I only managed to work in seven of the ten orders, but I want to see what people think. Stormlight Elimination Roles: (Orders) I tried as best I could to base each ability off a Surge, with each Order having access to two powers. Windrunner: Can stop one player from using their role for the next turn. Includes Edgedancers/Dustbringers. Skybreaker: Can kill one player per night, negates Edgedancing/Dustbringing. Dustbringers: Can kill one per night or make themselves untargetable. (Eg. They cannot be killed, have their targets changed, or have their role found out. ) Edgedancers: Can save one person per night, or make themselves untargetable. Truthwatchers: Can save one person per night, or open PMs between yourself and others. You must PM the other person first. In this sort of game, only Truthwatchers/Lightweavers can start conversations. Lightweavers: Can ascertain one person's role, or open PMs with yourself and others. Elsecallers: Can ascertain one player's role, or change someone's target. (Eg. A uses their power on B, but C makes A use their power on D, instead.) Factions: Taravangian's Followers (I don't really know what to call them): Their goal is to kill all of the other players. They may kill one player per night, as well as use any powers they may have. Nalan's Skybreakers can only kill one per night as a group. Their goal is to kill all the Knights Radiant and survive to the end. Their kill is unaffected by the powers of Edgedancers/Dustbringers. Potential Stormlight Mechanic: To balance out some of the roles, (honestly, several of them are seriously overpowered) I think you'd need something like this: There is a highstorm every three days, and after the highstorm each role that requires Stormlight has enough for two single actions, or one double. If anybody likes these, feel free to use/adapt them however you want. I was thinking about trying my hand at GMing a game over the summer, but I don't really care all that much. (Sending this on my IPhone, so I can't spoiler this to save space.) Edit: I'm slowly trying to edit out typos and explain myself a little better. Edit 2: Looking this over with a head slightly less foggy from jet lag induced insomnia, I realized I had to change a couple things to make the game work better. What do you think now?
  7. Honestly, I kind of wish I was the Lurcher. It'd be a touch mean to Meta, but the Night's not over yet and I'm pretty sure I could have still sent in the order to Lurch myself. I can't say I'm happy I've been marked for death, but go ahead and kill me if it makes you feel better. You're all still going to die. Ruin must come to all eventually, even His own Servants.
  8. There's basically nil value, honestly. When I first saw that Gamon had been Spiked I though I might be able to extrapolate who some of the Spiked are from how he acted in the PM, but I came up largely blank. I only brought it up because all the info that group had is known to the Spiked already, and Wilson asked for it. Though Gamon was a part of the group, it is very hard to say if the information we had was faulty or not. At first Gamon posted quite frequently, but after we narrowed things down to those four (Seran, Quillion, Mathieu and Wilson) he got a lot quieter. Whether that means we've got Spiked in there and Gamon didn't want to look suspicious when we found one or we were so far off the mark that Gamon didn't feel the need to comment, who knows. (This was seriously all I got from looking at Gamon's behaviour in the PM. He was being far too careful.)
  9. Now that we know Gamon was Spiked, I guess there isn't really any point in not being open right now. I'm a Snapped Smoker, and I've been working with Peng's group since Night 7. I was verified by Grave, so you don't really have anything to worry about on that front. Seran has been one of the group's top suspects ever since Peng died, but knowing that he's Snapped puts things into a fairly different perspective. Unfortunately, I can't change my vote now. Thug is one of those very inconvenient powers that requires us to either waste a cycle or take your word at face value. I suppose this is the best way, even though I don't like it; if you're good, then at the very least (like Wes mentioned) the Coinshot knows a little more. Vron, if he gets on before the day ends, can confirm my above statements. He and I are the only currently living members of the PM group.
  10. Crap. No wonder all the members of Peng's "trusted" PM group have been dying. At least we finally got one of the Spiked. Yeah, Gamon would have been the last one Spiked, going by Aspren's Table very strangely organized List. I doubt Cessie would have felt the need to place any Spiked in that group before she was about to be lynched, seeing how we pretty well dissolved after Day Two, and didn't really do anything all again until the whole Cessie thing happened. So Wilson is somewhat clear in that respect (though most definitely not cleared). Honestly, after they saw the (slight) majority going for Shimble, whoever the first Spiked is they may well have voted otherwise to deflect suspicion. I highly doubt the Spiked would conceal themselves all in one group of voters on days the votes weren't unanimous. I would assume that each day there were some Spiked voting for one person, some for another, and some who weren't voting at all. I still feel most suspicious of Seran, he’s been just active enough to avoid suspicion, and has very rarely made a decisive vote. It would make a lot of sense for a Spiked Coinshot to try and attract as little attention as possible. (This vote is anything but final, if anybody has a reason that we really should vote for one person in particular, I'm more than willing to listen.)
  11. Gah, I'd love to sign up for this one, but I'll be in Costa Rica for ten days in the middle of it, and judging by how enthusiastic people are already, I'm not going to enjoy catching up on the 20+ pages that'll be here when I get back.
  12. Aonar sat back and watched the crew. They scant few who remained were sullen, seldom speaking and doing little more than drinking the few bottles of antidote that were left. It was clear what their problem was. They had lost hope. Thirteen were left of their original twenty-nine, and they all knew that number would be down to ten before next morning. Even though Aonar knew what was wrong, there was nothing he could do. He'd never before felt so helpless. How did one fight against things as intangible as depression and distrust? There's only one thing to do I suppose... Downing the last of his own bottle of antidote, Aonar added his voice to the small discussion taking place. "I will vote for Roban. I do not wish to, but to do otherwise is foolishness knowing that the traitors can influence our vote. Survivor help us all if you are wrong about him."
  13. I finally found the time to finish translating Hero's last message. The original post has been updated with the whole thing. I can now honestly say I can read the Steel Alphabet, but I've also gained a splitting headache for my troubles.
  14. Hero, I'm taking that as a personal challenge to see how much of that I can translate before I need to sleep. I'll update this post as I go. I have failed you. I have planned these messages, knowing a calamity is coming, hoping that I might find some secret that might be of use should I fall to the Inquisitor's scheming. Yet, I have nothing. I do not know who the Spiked Crewmembers are. The only thing I can think of is to continue to vote for the most likely suspects until our crew has been purged. However if you are reading this I have failed. That means I am probably dead. As I write this I find that prospect to be less tragic than I might have previously assumed. I would rather not deal with the traitors. They have been my constant companions, voices that whisper lies to me always, telling me to destroy innocent friends. I fear they have corrupted our Crew. I do know that these words must be written in steel to be preserved. I have written them in a steel sheet and ordered them scribed into a plate, knowing that in so doing I reveal my weakness to the Crew. Some have whispered to me that I am a fool to expose myself by writing this and letting others see it. That is primarily why I decided to go through with the creation of messages. Doing so seemed to make the Inquisitor angry. That is reason enough, I think. It is good that some few of my companions know my weakness, if only for the good of the Crew, should I somehow fall. I have tried to be a good Tineye. At first, I was too young, too foolish. I made mistakes. Yet I have tried so hard. I nearly destroyed Crew with my arrogance, and yet I fear I have nearly destroyed it again through my accusations. I can do better. I will do better. I will create a Crew of order. Regardless, this is not the place for justification, for I am-after a form-Crewleader. Yet, I know there are those more powerful than I. If I am destroyed, they will be the cause of that destruction. My advice to give is this: Trust Aspren's dying words. His main suspicions are as good as mine. Heed the words of the other Tineye, if he still lives. He can be trusted, and he knows who else can also be trusted. Act swiftly. Learn who to trust, and who to be suspicious of. Perhaps these words will help you survive a little longer. Perhaps not. I am dead. I doubt that I should care. Still, I do. For you are my people. I am Herwynbe. That is what it must mean: Hero Wannabe, a Hero who desires his friends to live through the ages, as I do. Know that the Spiked members' powers are not complete. They can be killed. Fortunately, Modeft and I have hidden the antidote well. I think that's all I'm doing for tonight. Anyone who wants to can feel free to take over. Props to Claincy by the way for making a translation key. This message seems to be a revised version of TLR's message in HoA, if that helps any other translators.
  15. Blasphemy, Aspren! That is clearly a List. It's merely turned sideways. Anyway, on a more serious note, I really hope you're right Aspren, and that you aren't killed pointlessly. If we start lynching your suspects and we still don't hit any Spiked, we're screwed.
  16. It appears I must vote, Aspren. While I can't say that you're overly high on my suspicions list, nobody is, and you are higher than most. I'm sorry.
  17. I'm honoured Wilson. May the Force Lists be with us in our quest to stop the spread of blasphemous Tables. And Roban, that's seriously awesome. That may well become my new member title if Aether or Wilson don't want it.
  18. Neither of the two main List-makers are online, so here we go. Tables Aspren? What witchcraft is this? I debated for a good long while (3 whole hours) about still bothering to post this, but Lists must reign supreme! (And you missed a couple little things) Day/Night 1: Lynched: No one Snapped: None Converted: No one Dead: Weiry (Lurcher) Lam (Regular) Fnord (Regular) Day/Night 2: Lynched: Shimble (Coinshot) Snapped: One person Converted: Coinshot Dead: None Day/Night 3: Lynched: Digits (Regular) Snapped: None Converted: None Dead: Lucy (Seeker) Day/Night 4: Lynched: Eddy (Regular) Snapped: None Converted: Seeker Dead: Cessie, survived due to Uber-Pewter Day/Night 5: Lynched: Shiv (Lurcher) Snapped: Multiple (Dyring, Tineye) Converted: Lurcher Dead: -Maxil (Soother) -Peng survived due to Pewter Day/Night 6: Lynched: Cessie (Inquisitor) Survived due to Uber-Pewter Snapped: One person Converted: Soother Dead: -Dyring (Lurcher) -Peng was attacked, but survived due to Dyring's Lurching. Day/Night 7: Lynched: Cessie (Inquisitor) Snapped: None Converted: N/A Dead: -Ridge (Seeker) -Peng (Mistborn) To Summarize: Converts: (4) Coinshot, Seeker, Lurcher, Soother Snapped: (4+) 2 Lurchers, Tineye May the Lists rule forever!
  19. That would be a kind of pointless use of the power, but yeah. It would reveal if you've been Rioted, Soothed, Seeked, Smoked, Lurched, Coinshot(ed?), or any combination of the above. Now that I'm really thinking about it, this could actually be pretty darn useful in the game that's going on right now.
  20. You could have it show you any actions used on you over the last cycle. That would be a decent power.
  21. The mists were dispersing, revealing a crowd standing around Dyring's inn once again. Everyone seemed reluctant to go inside, and Peng was digging a pit in the ash nearby. Aonar realized what must have happened. Even though he and Dyring had seldom agreed on anything, he was still a member of the crew, and he had given his life defending the only person the crew could trust. He deserved better than to be killed by traitors in his own inn. Aonar walked through the crowd, now much thinner than it had been, ignoring the glances his armour attracted from some members of the crew. Clearly not everyone liked to be reminded they were working with a hazekiller. He grabbed a shovel and stepped up beside Peng, determined to show Dyring some of the respect he deserved. Soon... Aonar thought, soon Cessie will pay for her crimes, and then we can finally bring the traitors to justice. Somehow, though, Aonar knew that things wouldn't go so smoothly.
  22. Um... Peter's tweet seems to be saying that the glyphs are read left to right, not right to left. So Awesomeness was right the first time. Peter said that sas was on the left, and nahn was on the right. EDIT: I guess that's why I should wait until I fully wake up to comment on things. I got myself pretty confused there.
  23. Aonar knelt in a dusty corner of the Harrows, digging through the deeply piled refuse. After Cessie had fled, he knew exactly what he needed to do. When he first had reached Urteau, Aonar tried to bury his past as well as he could. Now, he thought, seeing the blade of an obsidian dagger gleaming from underneath the garbage, it's time to remember what I was before. ... Aonar strode slowly towards the inn; mist swirling around his feet, dueling cane clacking regularly against his lacquered armour as he moved. It felt strange to be wearing the armaments of a hazekiller again. However, it also felt right. It had been an Inquisitor that had first discovered his con and chased him out of Luthadel and into the Northern Dominance, nearly managing to kill him along the way. Aonar was glad he finally had a chance to return the favour. Unfortunately, against an Inquisitor, there was very little he could do alone. Hazekillers were trained to never attack a Mistborn without a group of at least seven, and even then, the odds weren't exactly what a sane person would call good. An Inquisitor was another beast entirely. Many considered them immortal, and even Mistborn tended to flee before them. But a Mistborn's raw power combined with a Hazekiller's intimate knowledge of how to counter the Metallic Arts? That could give even an Inquisitor pause. The mists lightened with the coming dawn and Aonar quickened his step, hoping against hope that when morning came there were still enough crew members alive to stop the Inquisitor. I haven't done any in-character stuff for a while (or even really posted at all), and half the reason I joined this game was to work on my writing a little, so... yeah. Anyway, I'm really hoping Uber-Pewter is all the Inquisitor has left. We've only just found the Inquisitor and the number of (living) trustworthy crew members has already been nearly cut in half. If the Inquisitor has another trick up her sleeve, then we're probably all already dead.
  24. Well... I was planning on writing a big in-character post, but physics homework has managed to make that impossible before the end of the day. I vote Cessie as well. Hopefully we can finally start working out who's who now, without an Inquisitor to convert people and keep us from being able to trust anyone (As far as I understand the rules at least, there's no way for there to be a Spiked Thug right now).
  25. The Inquisitor had a dead misting, there was dialogue saying the Inquisitor had stabbed someone with a spike, and there was no corresponding death. It seemed like a pretty safe assumption. That's probably the most conclusive evidence for a death you've given yet, Peng, so why not? It could be possible that two people Snapped the same night, but it wasn't in the write up. I'll see what Shiv has to say for himself before voting though.
