  1. Yeah, I'm just saying I'm not the one to ask about it is all. I can do some code, but this is one situation where I wouldn't be able to code myself out of a wet paper bag. XD We'll see what Eric thinks.
  2. Wow, you beat me to it! XD Welcome, Cagey, and I'm glad you could join us! I hope you recover swiftly and as comfortably as possible, and in the meantime, enjoy your reading time!
  3. I'm not entirely sure if it's possible to have one type be anonymous and the other show who voted since Eric is the one who tweaked the code, not me. As it is right now, we agreed to have the whole thing anonymous to hide the identity of downvoters.
  4. You know, that's a really good point, Inkthinker. It'd be really fascinating to see something like that. Plus you're adding Allomancy and Feruchemy into all of that brand-new shiny technology. It's fascinating to think about how all of these things will affect Scadrial. Though it does bring up an interesting, if only quasi-related question: is it possible for society to advance too quickly?
  5. Hot diggity, the God Tier level-up graphics are trippy! Someone's having fun with the special effects. XD
  6. Actually, they prevent that on page 102:
  7. That, and there's the fact that it's really easy to see if you've been upvoted every time you look at one of your posts. I wouldn't mind this feature, but I'd like the option to turn it off.
  8. That's right, everyone, it's that time of year again - Koloss Head-Munching Day! For those of you who don't know, Koloss Head-Munching Day is everyone's favorite Scadrial holiday. The celebration starts when Inquisitor Santa rounds up all those naughty skaa and... Okay, actually it's Brandon's birthday. It started when a fan asked if they have any in-world holidays on Scadrial and Brandon jokingly answered that they have Koloss Head-Munching Day. The fans ran with it, and now we all have the holiday we know and love. And if you didn't know or love it before you saw this topic, well, now you do. So throw on your favorite Koloss T-shirt (I know I am), munch on some heads (but try not to pick up any restraining orders while you do it), and post your birthday and head-muching wishes for Brandon! Happy Koloss Head-Munching Day, everyone!

  10. It's basically just that: DNA, only spiritual. It's a part of living beings in the Cosmere. On Scadrial, for example, one of the things it does is that it determines how Allomancy is passed down. Brandon has once explained that if you have identical twins, it's possible to have one be an Allomancer and one not. Their physical DNA is identical, but their spiritual DNA can still be different. Cosmere-related Alloy pseudo-spoiler below:
  11. They all have different spiritual DNA, I'm almost positive, because of the nature of the Shards and their influence on the world. The reason the skaa and nobles were different genetically is because the Lord Ruler made them that way when he ascended; those changes were done away with at the end of Hero of Ages. The "Hoid is an Alien" thing was a joke because Hoid is from a different planet. Please, please don't take that seriously.
  12. I know the second trilogy sets up for there being FTL travel in the third, but last I heard, that involved explaining how some of the "newer" powers work. I don't know how space travel will play into the world. Fun fact: I originally read "space race" as "a race (of beings) from outer space" for some unfathomable reason and was going to go on this rabbit trail about how technically, if you look at what the Cosmere actually is, you could technically call Hoid an alien from the perspectives of the people on Scadrial.

    Happy Birthday!

You could also skype with Eric. He usually winds up teaching it whether people want to learn it or not.
  15. Which is exactly why I suggested it. I probably won't be doing it myself, but if you want the books you've read to show up in your signature, go right ahead. ^^ This is easily the best way to do it. (As a side note, about awards, that would take up way too much space, they wouldn't all appear anyways, and the idea of giving every member on the forum - even just the 130 or so who are active per day - the appropriate "awards" sort of gives me a headache. ^^; )
  16. Well, like Mi'ch suggested, the end of the Alloy series could end up doing double duty by wrapping up Wax and Wayne's adventures and leading us into the second trilogy at the same time. They're all in the same city, now, after all; there's no Universal Reset Button that needs to be pressed like last time, so there's no need for things like the massive fresh start we had at the end of the first trilogy. Life is going on as normal now, and Brandon can pick up wherever he wants to continue the story.
  17. You're very welcome! And you're absolutely welcome to participate. We'll have either one or two campaigns going at first, so there'll be plenty of chances to join up with a crew and play out some awesome adventures! What's really cool is that Brandon specifically says in his annotations that he also wanted the rules to work well in a forum setting. I'm really grateful for that, since it's hard for me to get with my face-to-face gaming group at all anymore.
  18. I'm going to take a leap of faith here and remind everyone that from the Edwardian era to our generation is only roughly 100 years, and that - most importantly - we don't know how long the Alloy series will be or how many in-world years it will span. It could very well be 50 years from the end of the final volume in the series. Granted, that doesn't give us that much extra time, but if we consider that. plus estimating that the "about 50 years" actually means "50+ years," it at least gets us a little closer to the 100 we see in real life, which makes it somewhat more believable.
  19. I really enjoyed his personal anecdotes about his own gaming experience, and his insights into character writing. Since the Mistborn RPG is largely story-driven, having a strong character is really important to the game, and you can get a lot of really good writing advice out of his annotations. He also gives us some great tidbits on the magic and the world that we don't really see in the books, like how there are rogue kandra. Really interesting stuff. Also, for you crazy mathemeticians on the board, he admits to breaking some of the laws of physics.
  20. Sounds great! I'm kind of sad because I was just starting to getting into raiding with my guild when the semester exploded in my face. Boooo. I'm sort of curious what Mists of Pandaria will be like, though, so I dunno if I can bear to quit just yet. XD
  21. Lazerchikin, of course! Though I'm kind of mad that Cats and Bears got their models all spiffified and the Kaboomkins have the same low-poly fluffbutts we always have. Still, I very much enjoy being able to fire moon lasers at things. I have a Tree (technically "tree" now, sadly) off-spec, but I still kind of fail at HoT healing. XD
  22. So I've made an award for people who post and/or contribute to signing reports here on the forums. I tried to track down everyone, but I may have missed a few names as I was skimming over the actual discussions. If you added to a report but didn't get your award, PM me or post here with a link to at least one post (the specific post, please) where you contributed something meaningful to a signing report - like something you learned, a video recording, etc - and I'll get you the award you've earned. I apologize in advance to anyone I may have missed. Also, as of right now there's only one award for contributing, so if you post five different signing reports, I'm not going to spam five identical awards onto your profile. I'll consider making future awards for posting multiple reports, though, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep track of where you've contributed.
  23. Hey now, the issue of spiking is for the Admins to decide. I mean, what? I didn't say anything. Yes, I'm sure. Why are you looking at me like that? Anyways, if you want to make a thread, go ahead and make it. If you're really that concerned about being flamed, keep in mind that 17S is a very friendly community, and in the unlikely event of something like that happening, the Administration wouldn't tolerate it. So feel free to Brony it up!
  24. My current series right now are Once Upon a Time, Castle, Suburgatory, and Modern Family. And kind of PanAm, though not so much as of late (PanAm? Pan Am? I'm not sure off the top of my head). I still need to Hulu the OUAT episodes I missed during finals though....
