  1. I read it originally as his own thought drawn from guilt. Could definitely be him channelling thoughts stuck in Spren. In either case, the importance was to show how easily one person's honorable intention can be turned to another's hatred.
  2. I'm not saying there's no intention to tie them together, I'm saying its a bit complicated to tie things together long before they have to be. He has strong ideas for how his Cosmere will progress, and many of the stories are set, including, probably, an outline of the umbrella Shard arc. However, such a long term outline should allow for the inclusion of new ideas and changes while actually writing the stories. A very loose structure allows for more creative freedom and growth. Why tie himself down to a hard and fast structure like pre-set Shards and shardworlds?
  3. Honorspren are manifestations of the Cognitive concept of honor (not Honor); just as all Spren are Physical manifestations of the Cognitive views of various happenings, activities and concepts. Not saying they aren't Splinters, but there's no real confirmation that they are.
  4. I believe there is no formal grouping. Published novels have Shards that fit the stories. Remaining Shards fill in human Intents. Narratively it would be too difficult and not worth the effort to constrain storytelling ability by over defining...blahblahblah
  5. That quote is a huge reason why I think the Recreance was a reaction to Honor's death.
  6. Lightsong ends up colorless because color was required to heal Suse and taken from Lightsong. Blushweaver was simply killed.
  7. The Element is something the Seventeenth Shard is looking for. Its unique. I don't think Lerasium is either of these things.
  8. We don't know what the vision was of
  9. Unless the people on Sel were there before Shards showed up. It is known that Scadrial humans were created by Shards. This isn't known about Sel. Interesting conversation to be had there.
  10. There is a correlation between locations in Shadesmar and locations in the Physical. Walk to Purelake then "transport" to Shadesmar instead of whatever other tricks they were using. Or walk through Shadsmar...
  11. If metals aren't Invested, why can't Shards see them? I haven't posted my Gaia theory (aka Two Gods, One Cup Theory) of Planetary Investiture, but what if Scadrial itself is Invested in its metals? In turn, this imparts the opening that the Shards use to create their own Investitures. As parallels, Roshar is Invested in stone (gems being more molecularly organized versions of stone), Nalthis is Invested in life and its many colors (biochroma), and Sel is Invested in its own shape and configuration (hence why a big gsh in the land itself breaks Aons). Shards can make use of the openings that the planetary Investitures provide, but can't change them. At least that's the quick and dirty explanation.
  12. First question before that one: Does Susebron have two Divine Breaths at the end of Warbreaker?
  13. It could also be that Endowment can't see Drabs or can't see them in a way that enables him to Return them. "Returned are known..." is a weird statement.
  14. The only known Splinters we've seen are the Aons in Seons on Sel and Divine Breaths on Nalthis. Both are associated with sentient beings. Shardblades aren't sentient. This doesn't prove they aren't Splinters, but it is.a mark against them
  15. Lightsong had memories of his previous life. He just couldn't bring them up at will. He dreamed about his first death at the end of the book.
  16. I cant find where anyone defined the concept of "focus".
  17. Have we concluded that Hoid wrote the Letter? If he did, he states in it that he's set a false trail for those looking for him. Ishikk might be helping him, but I see no reason why Ishikk would have any idea who Hoid is or is pretending to be. Personally, I think Ishikk was pointing out how foolish he thought the three searchers looked.
  18. Elantris, the name that replaced Adonis, is built on Ela, which means Focus, Center. So, we can assume that Ado was Brandon's first choice for Focus, Center. If he chose Ado because of its relationship to Adonalsium...
  19. No one on a battlefield is an innocent
  20. So its confirmed that they're subsets of their parent Shard?
  21. Thought: He left Sel intact because the process of Splintering Devotion and Dominion didn't require much Investment. Afterward he could leave easily. On Roshar, he might find it easier to completely destroy the place afterward because he had to so heavily Invest himself to Splinter Honor. Now he's heavily committed to the Splintering of Cultivation and, therefore vulnerable. This also provides a foundation for he reasons why Hoid is sticking around and writing letters asking for intervention. Maybe his Hate intent wasn't as foolproof a way to make sure Adonalsium couldn't be reformed as he thought. Maybe its Hate itself that has made him so heavily Invest himself in this endeavor.
  22. The question about whether Splinters are to Shards as Shards are to Adonalsium becomes important. Does each Splinter carry only a piece of the intent of its parent Shard (how does one break up the concept.of Honor into independent pieces?) or is the Intent of each Splinter the same as its parent?
  23. I guess there's the possibility that something else could be trapped in that gem, but he only things we know of that are stored in gems are Stormlight and Spren. Stormlight gets used up and has to be replenished. Since shardblades don't pull Stormlight from around them during use, there is something besides Stormlight in that gem. So I conclude that a spren is powering each shardblade. I just don't remember seeing a gem in the description of shardblades before. The flash only tells me that the gem is doing something. In any case, I guess there's nothing to see here.
  24. Is Ryshadium close enough to Rayse?
  25. I just noticed that the gemstone at its pommel let out a white light when he picked it up. Don't remember a description of a shardblade that included a gemstone, nor any flash of light. So shardblades [bold] are[/bold] powered by trapped spren.
