Well, you do know that Alloy of Law is over a year old now, right? It's not going to be in the upcoming and recent release section, if that's where you're looking. If you mean annotations, Brandon's written most of them, but they're not ready to go out yet. The first and last few aren't done yet. The progress bars do get updated, I know for a fact that it hasn't been "months". I'd much rather him be writing Stormlight 2 anyways, rather than have him constantly updating his website.

The easiest answer I can see for why Shardblades have no apparent need for any external power source is that they contain a Splinter. First a small aside to explain how I think Splinters work. The way I see Splinters is that they have become separated from the Shard in much the same way that Shards separated from each other. (Although they can, of course, return to the Shard they came from) A Shard's power also seems to eventually return to it, much like how the Well recharges over time. A Splinter's power also returns to it, not to the main Shard, so the Shardblades have no need to draw power from an external source. Shardplate on the other hand, seems to no longer, or never have had, that independence from a Shard. Plate doesn't contain a Splinter, so its power isn't exclusive to them so it needs to be recharged eventually. There is a more sinister possibility though. Perhaps Shardblades gain power from the people they kill, drawing energy from their Spiritual aspect for fuel. Which is both terrifying and horrifying.

The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist
Windrunner replied to Oneyespike's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Unable to kill any plants or animals to eat, humans end up feeling like they're starving for the rest of their eternal lives, and like Elantrians, eventually all lose their minds. Remember that, at the moment, we're trying to keep it obviously related to Brandon's work here. Also You know we see one, albeit briefly, in the TWoK epilogue, right? He'll have more in other Stormlight books and the third Mistborn trilogy, if I remember right. I wish that I had a bead of lerasium. -

You're wearing a sleeveless shirt. I wish I could hang out with Hoid sometime -
Here's a quote for you guys: I hadn't ever noticed the quote about the bridges being curves. It does quite nicely solve the problem I was seeing with horses being able to charge on top of them, considering if they were flat, either the end would stick up or they would have to keep the end so close to the edge that there would be a significant risk of falling. I'm working on a model myself at the moment, we'll see if it turns out. I'm rather out of practice and the program I'm using isn't ideal for the situation. Never thought I'd miss my old school's engineering software, but I sure do now. XD EDIT: Also, Galladon, please don't double post. I can't merge your two posts together without losing that image, but you should just edit your original post instead of posting again. Thanks! RubixEdit: Windy, you can always merge the top post into the bottom post...

Cultivation can't be one-hundred percent whole, as some of the spren are from her. To me, personally this implies she's at least partially Splintered. Whether or not this was something she did to herself, like Endowment, or was due to Odium, I have no idea.

If you want to read them "chronologically" how they happen in the cosmere the order is: Elantris Emperor's Soul Mistborn Trilogy Warbreaker The Way of Kings Alloy of Law This may not be the best order if it's your first time through though. Emperor's Soul has a lot of cosmere stuff that could be more fully appreciated after reading others, and reading Alloy right after the Mistborn Trilogy helps you to catch all the fun easter eggs better. That being said, you can really read them in any order you please, although obviously reading the Mistborn trilogy before Alloy is a good idea if you want to avoid some fairly large spoilers from the trilogy. I just read them in the order I could get my hands on them, and ended up going backwards chronologically. It all works out fine, they make good rereads.

Here you go

I could be misremembering, but I think that Brandon said that there's a chance that some diagrams of the bridges will show up in Stormlight 2. As for the original post about how the bottom looks, I have some ideas. I might do a diagram and post it here.

Well Roshar, the Shattered Plains in particular, is mostly flat rock, with few loose stones and the like. They get blown away into chasms if they're small enough, or if they're too big, they gradually become one with the plain, due to crem. Not a lot of loose stones lying around.

Lego Cosmere and the Hunt for the Hoid
Windrunner replied to Lightflame's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Falling back on the masculine is the typical rule when unsure about gender. I've even seen women called sir before, although it is certainly not as common. I'll be sure to address you as ma'am from now on, as that seems to be what you're requesting -
That's due, in part, to his Hemalurgy. I was referring to his amount of skill as something nearly unattainable, not the ability to push softly.

This is due to the nature of Feruchemical healing and one's Cognitive aspect. It repairs your body to the state you see yourself (and possibly how others seeyou) as being. So if you lost your arm many years before you found out you were a Bloodmaker, and got used to not having an arm, when you tapped health that arm would not grow back. It's the same reason Sazed can't heal himself from being a eunuch, it's become a part of his identity. Miles' hair and nails will return to the length that he sees himself as having.

While that's all true, it doesn't really mean that actors couldn't push gently. Allomancy is a skill, with enough practice they could learn. I don't see anything on par with Zane's abilities being likely, but surely soft pushes are just a matter of training. Vin had trouble with them early on, but she's obviously got enough control that she can pull them to her hand without injury after less than a year of training.

There's no way that we can figure out an exact count of possible Allomantic metals.

Hey Codestar good to have you here! What do you mean by Topaz? I'm probably missing something obvious here XD If I'm right in thinking that your avatar image is from xkcd, you should fit in great. I'm loving the what-if articles he's been working on lately. I've been looking into aerospace engineering as a potential career, how're you liking that? Since you met Mi'ch at a AMoL siging, am I right in thinking that you're a WoT fan? Have you read any of Brandon's other books? I hope you have fun here, and can't wait to see you around :D/> -Windy

I have to exercise self-control or I would have this problem. TWoK is my personal favorite, but I've only actually read it cover to cover twice, and I rarely read small sections anymore. Same is true for the other cosmere books. I like them too much, I'm worried that the story will become stale if I read them too often.

Yeah, thirty years was a guess that I made, although now I'm beginning to wonder if it's closer to ~15.

Good to have you here Dutch Wives! What other authors do you enjoy aside from Brandon? If you've got any questions about either the site or the cosmere, don't hesitate to ask; it's a pretty steep learning curve. Hope to see you around!

Some of the characters in the interludes will probably make minor appearances again, but Brandon has said that he really intends for the interludes to mostly stand on their own. None of these characters will become full fledged viewpoint characters. We've already met nine of the ten. Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Szeth, Navani, Adolin, Taravangian, Taln, Jasnah, and another unnamed Herald. So if the vandal lady really is Shalash, then maybe she'll get a viewpoint; she'll certainly be important. The theory goes that the lady who destroys art is Shalash. It certainly makes sense, I have no doubts about its accuracy. The woman seems to predate the weird racial characteristics of Roshar, she speaks of procuring a Shardblade as an easy task. That in and of itself doesn't imply that she's Shalash. She does, however, destroy art and Shalash is the Herald tied to creativity. It's easy to see ways that could have caused her to embrace destruction. A death quote speaks of "the daughter of winds and kings gouging out her own eyes," (paraphrasing there) which makes sense, as she gouges out the eyes of a sculpture. That actually implies, to me at least, that she's the daughter of Jezrien, the Herald tied to the Windrunners, a former king. Hopefully that clears that theory up for you EDIT: Just noticed that Brandon has said that we have met the unnamed Herald, who he spoke of using a masculine pronoun. We just didn't know it at the time. I'd bet on Jezrien, personally.

Just as a side note if you're writing this article, remember that VaraTreledees is not the name given to Denth by the Cult of the Returned; it's his name as one of the Five Scholars. Just like Shashara/Glorysinger and Talaxin/Warbreaker.

Shadows For Silence in the Forests of Hell
Windrunner replied to ROSHtafARian's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yep, this was announced months ago. It is in the cosmere and is set on a relatively unimportant planet there. Hoid does not make an appearance. -
Steelheart Cover Revealed and Rithmatist Excerpt
Windrunner commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
This one I do know, it is a full-sized book, the first in a trilogy. Although being YA, I'd think it's probably a safe bet that it'll be shorter than Brandon's adult novels.- 13 comments
