  1. I don't think they "need" to be in a certain form to do things. Warriors can still perform work, worker form can still make art, it's just not ideal. I'd imagine mating form is ideal for, well, mating.
  2. I understand the concept of the Shared Surges in the Radiants just fine. I misunderstood what he was saying there. I do not think regrowth is a Surge. It seems much more like Soulcasting, changing air or whatever into bone and flesh. What do you mean by "things"? Specific powers? It's been pretty clear to me from the AA in TWoK that basic and reverse lashings are due to gravity, and full are due to pressure. Nothing I've seen changes that opinion. I think we've yet to see the effects of the Windrunners's, for lack of a better term, combo-power, invoking both Surges to do something. Maybe it's the riding of the storms.
  3. I don't think there are "shared" Surges, rather the effects of two Surges are being used in concert. That is an interesting point about the ruby in the spanreeds. I'm not sure if it is entirely accurate though. The same process applied to an amethyst causes the two halves to do the opposite of what the other is doing. The essence "nails" seems totally unrelated. Am I missing a connection?
  4. I agree with it being ten, as ten seems to be a foundational number in the magic systems on Roshar. Here's a fun theory on why it's heartbeats that matters. I'm a firm believer that a Shardblade gets attached to someone's Spiritweb much as a spike does. Perhaps the heart corresponds with the point in the Spiritweb where the Shardblade is affixed? We know that the heart is an important bindpoint.
  5. Dragonsteel is an unpublished series set on the Shardworld Yolen. The first two books form a duology, with Hoid as a major character. They are preliminarily titled "The Liar of Partinel" and "The Lightweaver of Rens". The first one, and perhaps the second one as well are set before the Shattering of Adonalsium. Brandon will not show anyone these books, and I don't think he's even written them both. There are five more books that occur hundreds of years later, so not "directly" a series, but still the same world. These five are the core Dragonsteel sequence, the first of which Brandon wrote for his master's thesis at BYU. It is still in the library there. Many things have changed since then, so this book is no longer canon.
  6. The reputation that appears under your name when you post is the reputation you've received. You can see where it comes from in the "reputation" tab on your profile. The 22 positive and 1 negative are reputation given, so you've upvoted 22 people and downvoted 1. Hope this helps
  7. Well, I do wonder if it's not so much that there are only ten kinds, but that these ten are the most valued on Roshar, due to their magical and religious connections. The other types would be "semi-precious" on Roshar, not really important to the plot. Kinda like how the 16 Allomanctic metals aren't the only metals on Scadrial. I think a far more interesting question is, can any other gem type hold Stormlight? The set of ten are referred to as "Polestones", which implies they are the main gems, but perhaps not the only ones?
  8. Fun fact that pertains to this discussion. Brandon said on Twitter a long time ago that axehounds and chasmfiend are distantly related. Does this mean they both have gemhearts? Or did the ancestors of axehounds go down an evolutionary path that didn't develop gemhearts, and the ancestors of the chasmfiend did? Maybe all the gems we see in spheres are actually harvested from smaller animals. There aren't that many greatshells to go around; chamsfiend, lanceryn, and the sea monsters are the only confirmed ones. Just some fun discussion topics.
  9. I see a view kinda midway between you guys. Scadrial was semi-stable, but slowly growing worse. TLR, I'm sure, did keep misinformation going during his empire, but things were assuredly getting worse. Brandon's on record as saying that even if Vin hadn't released Ruin the world might have wound down on its own before the next filling occurred. Ruin indubitably hurried things along though.
  10. I don't believe so, if we do it's not on Brandon's site.
  11. Yeah I strongly think it's not chromium he's using, luck and this precognition seem very separate to me.
  12. Mind posting the picture or quoting wherever that link leads? It doesn't appear to be working for me. Thanks!
  13. Well holy REDACTED that's exciting. I'd say this is the biggest Hoid reveal since we found out that he has metal he shouldn't have. Pretty awesome hint at a potential god-metal alloy ability? Thank you both, Lamguin and Blackharp!

The answer to that last question is yes you can, but it's more efficient to simply compound if you've got double pewter.
  15. Doloken is hell, Brandon finds it amusing because even the word for hell in Dula sounds fun. I kind of think Jesker doesn't have any gods. In addition to Iald (which I knew about ) there's also the city of Rain in Arelon. Iald does make it seem likely though that there is another sea out there, maybe to the west? The Sea of Fjorden is also called the northern ocean, which implies there's an ocean in another direction as well. I'm going to have to post my chasm theory at some point, but I think one of the major problems with Edans land is that it's actually split by the chasm. Kinda obnoxious to go around, and if it's really as large as the map implies, I'm not sure they have the technology to bridge it. Also there's mentions of mudslides, I think. All the nice fertile topsoil goes straight into that chasm. Kiin went to Arelon to plot his next invasion of Teod, but then he fell in love with Daora, so I think she might have talked him out of his plans. Here's my too thoughts on fewer Seons. One is that it's stated in the book that many people, like Roial, have Seons still, but they're left at home now, due to their association with Elantris. The other idea is more speculative. If Splintering isn't permanent, could the Splinters that are Seons be beginning to reform Devotion? I also like how you mention Kaladin fan-art, the one page we actually have a canonical image for:P When did we find out that people live in Shadesmar? Great job guys, as always you made me laugh
  16. Mbg seems to have done it before he left, but I haven't taken the time to verify any of them, and as far as I know, neither has anyone else. I don't add dates to any articles I write because I'm still not sure about the calendar.
  17. Hey Thunder, good to have you here! TWoK was the first book by Sanderson I read as well. I hope you'll enjoy your time here
  18. Brandon's confirmed this.
  19. I'd like to announce that I'm back, much relaxed, from my mini-vacation. Hope everyone had a great new years!
  20. It just came from Brandon himself
  21. I always figured it "might be enough to" keep Odium bound. My interpretation of the Oathpact has always been that neither Shard was allowed to directly interfere with Roshar or one another, they couldn't change things directly, like Vin and Ruin did. Odium and Honor had to work even more through servants then R&P, Unmade, Voidbringers, and Voidbinders for Odium and the Heralds, Knights Radiant, and Surgebinders for Honor. If the Oathpact held, Odium still couldn't do much of anything to act against Honor, who I believe was much weaker then Odium, or Roshar.
  22. Actually, if you want to get technical, I theorized this a bit before Animar, although I didn't go as much in depth into it. I just didn't bother making a topic for it, as it was related to the theory I'd been working on.
  23. I understand your concern dude, but these things take time. Do you know how much work goes into putting an interview on the database? Josh and Mi'ch spend hours helping Brandon out and recording every second of audio possible. Then they have to go through the whole thing, cut out the irrelevant parts and upload it to the site. If someone offers to transcribe it, we have to wait for that to be finished. Then we have to go through and listen to it again for quality control on it to make sure that it's as accurate as possible. And then we get to spend time putting the questions in on at a time in the Interview Database, having to put in each questioner's name and then tag every single one, while trying not to duplicate a tag. In addition to that, we just lost Zach for two years, and he was the interview master. We're in an interim period right now, so if things aren't moving as fast as you'd like I'm sorry about that but it's going as fast as possible right now. I've also got a backlog of other things that need to be put in there, annotations aren't exactly quick. Terez does not run theoryland single-handedly. Everyone on here who needs access has it. This is a long term cooperation we've got going on here. Do you know how difficult it is to separate Brandon's question on his cosmere books and Brandon's questions on WoT? He gets asked about both, often simultaneously. That's why this partnership is a smart thing, we've all got a vested interest in this going well. It would be extremely difficult for this hypothetical jerk to got through and pick out all the cosmere stuff, not worth anyone's time. And even if at some point we decided to split (not going to happen) what kind of person is going to abruptly dump all of Brandon's stuff without giving us a heads-up on what's going on? That's extremely unlikely. And even in this ridiculous scenario, we've got Google docs of the interviews that we use when compiling them. There is not going to be a problem. I think it's really awesome that you're concerned about new members and rightfully so. We didn't always have the interview database though, and we didn't always have the Brandonothology. There were really helpful and kind people that helped them, and there are really helpful and kind people here right now. I'm confident that no one who is confused about someone will find anything but a willingness to point them in the right direction. Since Zach is gone, I've basically become the primary guy for entering stuff in the database. Things have been hectic lately for me, juggling work, school, and 17th Shard stuff isn't cake. Wikiing has been my priority of late, trying to get Stormlight stuff and important articles done. I am still slowly chugging along on this though, and it will be finished "soon". -Windrunner
  24. As far as I know, the Lord Ruler is never mentioned in Elantris. Care to cite that? I strongly doubt that he's a Worldhopper.
