  1. I think the Dedicated secret one isn't that difficult to get. I'm currently waiting to receive mine. The only hint I can give is that the award description page contains a tiny bit of a clue, but it's extremely subtle.
  2. I've got this, I've been working on the Shardworld articles this week anyway. I should have thought of the moons. EDIT: Never mind it seems Thor beat me to the punch.
  3. This is me, and basically every essay that has ever been assigned to me! I saw this on facebook, so I wasn't sure if I could link to it!
  4. Okay crazy question. If a piece of one of the Allomantic metals was Awakened, what would happen when an Allomancer tried to burn it? (Example burning Nightblood) Even crazier What would happen if a piece of Lerasium, Atium, or Sazedium, was Awakened, and an Allomancer tried to burn it? Crossover magic systems rock! Hope that conflux book happens so I can see the results.
  5. So I had a crazy idea today, while wondering about the Radiants. Somewhere I read a theory that the Windrunners and Stonewardens from Dalinar's vision went to Shinovar, and stayed there to found Stone Shamanism. I like this idea, and for the purposes of my idea (at least the second part) I will assume it is accurate. Now we all know about the Thrill, a feeling of joy in battle, that it is taboo to mention. Many people have speculated that it is tied to Odium and I agree with that. I would like to extend this, and say that since the only people who have felt the Thrill are those with Shardblades, I think that the Thrill is tied to the Shardbades, who have been corrupted by Odium. (The corruption idea is not my own) So my idea is that the Radiants began to feel the Thrill in battle. They recognized the touch of their greatest enemy, and immediately gave up their weapons to avoid being manipulated. So when the Radiants arrived in Shinovar (this is the part where my own idea hinges on the Radiants in Shinovar idea) they made a pledge to never take up Shardblades, a promise so they could remain pure. This promise to avoid Shardblades became a central part of Shin life. So during unknown events, Szeth ended up with his Shardblade and Surgebinding abilities. The Shin saw him as being a liar, breaking his oath, and thus the name Truthless. What does everyone think?
  6. Good points about the linchpin spike and Inquisitors using atium up. However Ruin was manipulating Rashek even as he held the power. Here's the quote: This looks like Ruin was probably telling the Lord Ruler about all these awesome things he could make and control, while conveniently leaving out the part that as soon as he, Ruin, escaped the servants would be taken over by Ruin.

    Lerasium

Haha they just proposed a name for this element in our world. Livermorium (Lv). It will be approved or denied next May. NY Times Article I still love the picture though. Now I just need to get my hands on some Livermorium to become Earths only Mistborn! Muahahaha!!!
  8. In my opinion, it wouldn't be a humongous risk for the Lord Ruler to give Inquisitors atium. Ruin couldn't do much of anything by this point except whisper to those with spikes. Inquisitors could just ignore Ruin, the Lord Ruler might have even given them some theological reason to ignore the voice. The Inquisitors were all really loyal to the Lord Ruler, I think they just went along with Ruin when he controlled them because the Lord Ruler was dead and they genuinely enjoyed suffering. Also if the Lord Ruler was careful, he wouldn't give too much to Inquisitors at once, only little bits they would need if they were going to do something where atium would be required for their survival. The Lord Ruler could also take control of any Inquisitor at any time, and potentially discover if they used up their atium. (I don't know if someone being controlled because of Hemalurgy is susceptible to having their thoughts read by their controller, so that last part was speculation.) The Lord Ruler was also extremely skilled at detecting deceit, even Vin's father couldn't hide his thoughts. The Lord Ruler can probably hear their heartbeat increase because of nervousness. Also even if the Inquisitors somehow managed to secretly stockpile some atium, it wouldn't be enough to tip the balance in Ruin's favor (at least noticeably) if the Lord Ruler was stingy with his atium. Also the Lord Ruler wasn't intending on Ruin getting out while he still lived, because he intended on renewing Ruin's prison, so there would be no way for Ruin to metabolize the atium, not while the Lord Ruler still lived. And if he died he didn't particularly care. Also, Ruin was whispering to the Lord Ruler at this point, making him see things that weren't there. He tricked him into making servants (kandra, koloss, and Inquisitors), who's to say Ruin didn't also manipulate the Lord Ruler into overlooking the fact that giving Inquisitors atium was a bad idea. Does my logic make sense, or is there a flaw in my argument? My question about Inquisitors is, we know that they are no longer human, but at what point do people spiked with Allomantic and Feruchemical attributes stop being human and start being Inquisitors? What is the threshold?

    Promotions!

Congrats to everyone who was promoted! You guys all do a great job around here, and I can't wait to see what the future here holds!!! Also more admins means that there are now more members, meaning that the community is growing! What a great thing! (Also I think this is the most exclamation points I've ever used in a paragraph, haha)
  10. So Peter has told us this about a new cosmere novella by started by Brandon. I, for one, am extraordinarily excited about this. One of my favorite parts of Brandon's works are the innovative magic systems, so I can't wait to see this one. Hopefully this novella will be released this year, because a year without a cosmere book will be bad, since Stormlight 2 is now 2013. I thought we needed a thread for this so speculate away!
  11. Zas didn't just get it for having a suit. Here's the description: Unless you plan on wearing the suit to an event, I don't think you'll get this award, and it might have just been custom made to thank Zas.
  12. Alright, sweet! I think I'll probably keep plugging away on the Scadrial article, I need to add some references, since I was just trying to get a lot of info down. Oh, and if it was you that changed that really long list of cities in the Elendel Basin into three columns, thank you! I had thought about it but didn't know how. After I finish up the Geography & Ecosystems I'm going to work on a Culture & Religion section, as well as one for History and Mythology. Then on to the other Shardworlds! I figure I should probably get some sort of standard for section names between all of them, and the Nalthis article is in need of heavy editing. Plenty of fun stuff to do! Can I PM you if I have any formatting or coding questions? Oh and also the titles of the koloss and skaa article aren't capitalized, but the title of the noble article is. I wasn't sure about wiki policy but I think that article titles are supposed to be capitalized, regardless of whether or not the noun itself is in the text.
  13. It would probably be a good idea to fix the Chasm, especially since drawing an additional line would slow down anyone trying to fight with AonDor. I don't know if the Elantrians themselves could do it. The Chasm is pretty far from Elantris, so the Elantrians would have be significantly weaker. However if someone manages to take up Devotion (aka Aona's Shard) or Dominion. That would be fairly easy for a Shardholder to do.
  14. The only kandra that were ever once human are the First generation. All the others were made from mistwraiths that were children of the first mistwraiths, (that used to be Feruchemists). All the other kandra were never actually human, just the decedents of something that used to be human, but now bears no relation. I don't know if a human and a kandra could have a child. I'm sure the kandra can make human reproductive organs though. I wonder if they have the same number of chromosomes as humans?
  15. I haven't heard anything about the symbols of Austere being available anywhere, but then again, I didn't realize the Feruchemical symbols were out either. Another symbol in Warbreaker is the artisans script, which is that language that is shown by color, rather then form. I would like to see some symbols out of Warbreaker, perhaps to represent the Heightenings. (Maybe there will turn out to be 16? Who says there aren't more?) Nalthis is currently the only Shardworld without any symbols related to to it's magic system, so I hope we'll end up seeing some.
  16. That is actually a really good idea! Now the link in your signature makes sense, haha. I hope it doesn't look like I was gold digging for prizes here, I really haven't done too much on the wiki yet. PM me if you guys want any articles in particular worked on, I was just planning on printing out the list of stubs and redlinks, and writing down page numbers for citing and information as I go through my chronological cosmere re-read.
  17. So I was working on the Coppermind today, and I had an idea that I think is pretty good, but I'd like to see what everyone else thinks. I love the idea of a wiki, but the more I look, the more I realize how much work needs to be done on it. Then I remembered the other giveaways 17th Shard has done, and I had an epiphany (I hope). What if the next time 17th Shard had a stuff to giveaway like the Inquisitor Santa stuff, you could get your name in the drawing for prizes by writing articles or improving the Coppermind? It seems to me that it would be a great way to get work done, and make people happy. I have three ideas for how this could be done. One idea is a straight up contest, the more articles you work on, the more times your name gets in the drawing for prizes. We could pin a topic in this thread, and people could post links to the pages, they've edited. Or alternatively people could sign up for articles, and then post when they've completed their work on it. Then admins could go check out the articles, and make sure that they've been done well, with sources cited and et cetera. The problem with this is that it wouldn't attract as many newcomers to the site, which appears to have been the goal of the other giveaways. There's another way to do this that could solve that problem though. People could comment on the opening post to get their name in the drawing once, just like before. But if people wanted to get their names in more then once they could start working on Coppermind articles, using one of the methods described above. A problem with this is that writing a couple of articles wouldn't really increase anyone's chances of winning the prizes too much, if turnout for the last couple drawings is anything to judge by. My last idea is that it would be just like giveaways before, except writing articles could bump you up to higher level prizes. If you write more articles you would be eligible to win better prizes, with higher chances of winning them, because fewer people would make it into higher levels. The problems with this is that it might feel kind of exclusive, also this might require a significant number of prizes because of the multiple levels, which cost money, so this might not work great. What does everyone think? It seemed like a pretty good idea to me, but since its my idea I'm not exactly objective. It would probably take a lot of work to set up and run as well, but if it works out, it would be great for the Coppermind. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being commanding or anything, I just wanted to bounce some ideas off of people to try to get the wiki really going.
  18. Yeah, SOM1else is right. The Shadesmar map in the back is a real stained glass window in Roshar. Do you remember those ardents in the Reshi Isles? They mentioned Shadesmar as well. I personally believe that it's because Honor brought people from his Shardworld (the Tranquiline Halls) to Roshar through Shadesmar. I read a quote somewhere that Brandon confirmed that humans and horses are not native to Roshar. I wish I could find it, I'll have to check the database.
  19. New magic system!!! Thank you Peter, this sounds awesome! Time for speculation. Since it's a novella, and was developed recently, it probably isn't part of the remaining three major cosmere Shardworlds. But they do have magic there... I'm gonna give it a random guess, and say it takes place on one of those worlds with no full Shard just a Splinter of one, since I on't know if those worlds without any Shardic Influence can do magic.(except perhaps Lightweaving?)
  20. "Are you tapping your chromiummind? Cause you're about to get lucky."
  21. It's almost painfully ironic that all us crazy 17th Sharder cosmere nuts missed something so important to the cosmere, while lots of Brandon's casual readers got to see something really special, and probably didn't even know how significant it was Has there been any further updates on what this novel was or if we can get a copy of this opening scene to read ourselves? I'd ask Brandon on Twitter, but I don't have account and don't want to make one to ask one question. I might though if no one else does...
  22. Wait, when and how did we get a hold of these images??? I can't wait to see they symbols!
  23. I think I know why. As far as I know, we have yet to see either the Feruchemical Table of Metals or the Terris symbols. It is true that they come with the RPG, but the only place I think it's seen is in the actual endsheet, between the cover and the first or last(I'm not sure which) page of the hardcover, similar to the the Way of Kings maps and Radiant/Voidbinder symbols. Since no hardcovers have been released thus far, no one has seen the table which is the only place the symbols are. I think the hardcover will be coming fairly soon, and when that happens I'm virtually certain that Brandon will begin selling copies of the table on his website. Also there is potentially a new Allomantic table done in a new style that matches the Feruchemical table style, which he mentioned he was hoping for. I'm not sure if Brandon actually planned on this happening though. Rumor has it the the Terris symbols are triangular, but thats all I've heard. If your friend succeeds in cracking anything about the symbols I would love to hear about it. Tell him or her that we've only ever seen one pattern, the location of the dots in the Allomantic symbol tells you if the metal is pushing or pulling, it lies outside for pulling, and inside for pushing. I hope this was helpful and accurate and that your friend finds something interesting in the symbols.
  24. I decided to help editing with the Coppermind Wiki, but I had some problems. I saw that the Cosmere article was a little outdated, because of some new information from FireArcadia's interview with Brandon. I was trying to cite it as a source but this red text kept appearing. Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references/> tag was found It gave a solution in the help section, but I just couldn't get it to work. Could someone explain how this works to me, so I can cite the articles I edit? Oh and also shouldn't FireArcadia's interview be in the new database? I couldn't find it there, but maybe it's because it isn't actually composed of direct quotes. But I'll link to it if anyone wants to see it. Thanks! Here's the article I was working on. Cosmere Article And here's FireArcadia's Interview
  25. This is really bumming me out. I'm not a huge fan of the Wheel of Time (mainly because I haven't got past book 3 yet) but the fact that Stormight 2 is at best a little over year away is too bad. Part of me wants to be annoyed that Brandon started working on the Wheel of Time, but I can't do that. It's obvious from the interviews that he was thrilled to be a part of it, and you can't go blaming someone for following what they love. And in addition to that, I think he's said that the experience he got from writing the Wheel of Time is helping him with the Stormlight Archive, which is my favorite book. If he says that writing AMoL makes him a better writer then I'm all for it. In the end, I think I'm glad he is writing it, even though it pushes back his own work. I guess I'll just give the Wheel of Time another go. I liked the Eye of the World just fine, and the Great Hunt was pretty good too. The Dragon Reborn just got me all hung up though. I kept trying to read through that conversation between the Children of Light in the beginning. Several of those guys have names that start with B and I never understood which one died in the end of the second book, so I didn't get it. I figured it was important so I kept reading it over and over, which was probably a mistake. I just quit after a while. Someone suggested the WoT Wiki for characters, so I think I'll try that and do my best to avoid the spoilers there. Sorry if this got a little rambly.
