There doesn't need to be decay if they're in your body. I'm talking about if you take your spike our regularly (Vin's earring) or if you received a spike that had already diminished in power, like the one that Marsh used on Penrod. Then it would be really useful, especially if it was a spike containing a rare power. I don't think Elend could spit lerasium back up, his body is actually burning it so there's nothing left to spit up. If this is just a general nature of Allomancy thread, does anyone have any ideas what lerasium alloy would make a Seer misting?

Best Brandon character *spoilers*
Windrunner replied to Zarepath's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I disagree with the belief that Kaladin is too whiny. He's had everyone he cares about stolen from him multiple times. I recently moved and spend far too much time moping about not seeing my friends, so I can't imagine what kind of depression I'd be in if they were all dead because I failed to save them. I think the fact that he has enough strength that he can even go on is impressive, not to mention the fact that he has the strength to try one last time to help people. He's one of my personal favorite Brandon characters (tied with Dalinar and Vasher) and seeing his character arc coming out of depression was one of my favorite parts in the whole book. I agree with Chicken and CrazyRioter, Ati and Leras were extremely involved for Shards. If you think about it they are some of the few Shards we directly see interacting with humanity. Dominion, and Aona are dead, we get one memory of Endowment's voice, and only mentions of Odium and Cultivation. The only Shard that has any human interactions on par with Ruin and Preservation is Honor, and were hearing from him after his death. And I absolutely loved Preservation's beyond the grave win! It was beyond awesome to realize he had orchestrated the whole thing. It reminded me of chess, sacrificing the Queen (Preservation) in order to get a pawn (Vin) into a better position to become Queen herself and destroy the enemy King (Ruin). -
I don't know exactly what increasing the part of Ruin in people would do, but if it balanced the Ruin part I thing you would lose sentience. I like the increasing spikes Hemalurgic charge theory better, it just seems right to me, but atium increasing your connection to Ruin makes more sense, as the opposite of lerasium, which increases your connection to Preservation. I might be able to combine them somehow. Could a greater connection to Ruin allow your body to utilize Hemalurgic spikes more efficiently? I don't know, it would help if we knew lerasium's Hemalurgic function, but I am virtually certain it's RAFO. I'm also pretty sure that it didn't say Rashek made lerasium in the book. If I'm remembering correctly that metal was rarely mentioned after Elend used it, and I don't think lerasium is actually called that in the books. I saw those clay tablets lerasium was in as being where it condenses, like the crystals atium appears in. Hopefully they will regrow or something, like the broken crystals will.

Sanderson Fan First or Jordan Fan First?
Windrunner replied to SirZelig's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Sanderson fan first, all the way! I grabbed Way of Kings in my library because of sheer volume, read it and loved it. I caught some grander undertones in the whole 3 of 16 gods thing, did some research and found all the cosmere books published, and ended up reading them in reverse (Warbreaker, Mistborn, & then Elantris). I heard about Wheel of Time because Brandon was finishing it so I gave it a shot. I did my best and read the first 2, but when I got to the Dragon Reborn I just couldn't go on. I kept forgetting which Child of Light was which and I gave up. I'm trying one more time, because Stormlight 2 is so far away, and I'm about halfway through New Spring. Here's hoping I make it. -
I don't think it's too deus ex machina for it to be a Splinter. Brandon says that their are some cosmere worlds that only have a sliver on the planet and nothing else. Also the fact that it's called the Old Magic implies, to me at least, that the magic was once there but now is almost gone. If Odium created the Voidbringers, then a piece of himself is inside them, presumably allowing them to use his magic system, Voidbinding, wherever they are, although this isn't for certain. But I think even AonDor could be used anywhere in the cosmere, just not with any level of power or usefulness, if they are too far away. I see the Voidbringers as kind of Odium's advanced shock troops. He shoots them to a planet, and then follows himself once the world has been softened up for him. (Which is how I think all the original users of AonDor, and Dominion's magic died) The reason he hasn't come until now is that the people of Roshar have managed to defeat his attacks. So he's given them a pause, during which to grow arrogant and weak. Now he's creating the final Desolation, and coming himself. If you think about what the face in the storm said to Kaladin, it was "Odium comes" not Odium is here.

I posted my random theory on this in another thread, but since it's being discussed here as well I thought I'd say it again. I think that atium's side affect is that when you burn it, it recharges the Hemalurgic spikes in your body, reversing any decay they've experienced. It would explain why Vin's earring was always strong enough to pierce copperclouds, even though she removed it so often before and during the books. My other idea is that it increases the piece of Ruin inside you, which could do some freaky, stuff I think.

Taking a Step Back: Speculation on the History of Roshar
Windrunner replied to treblkickd's topic in Stormlight Archive
I do agree with you that the is no way the Roshar got the way it is through evolution, but I don't think life was altered by a Shard. I think that Roshar was probably, always like it is now. A recent interview with Brandon indicates that it is humans and horses who aren't native to Roshar, not the other way around. I see Shinovar as a kind of cradle for human refugees from Honor's shardworld, the Tranquiline Halls, after humanity was driven out by the Voidbringers. Cultivation probably created it to help get people used to this strange world. The only useful thing I have to say about this is that I think the Heralds were originally just humans. Shallan talks a bit about Heraldic mythology, and speaks of something called Proving Day, where the people who became Heralds were set seemingly impossible tasks. This could all just be false though. The second I read this quote I thought Odium/Rayse. We know Hoid had a grudge against Rayse and Bavidan, which would explain why he said acquaintance, not friend. My personal theory on Hoid's goals is that he is trying to defeat Odium, in this vast interplanetary war. This would explain why he was on Roshar, he came to try to defeat Odium, but is spending most of his time trying to hide and stay unobtrusive, until he's ready to challenge Odium. -
Warbreaker Spoilers This could possibly be a Splinter of the third Shard that has been on Roshar, since I believe in the theory that Odium actually hasn't arrived on Roshar yet, and so he doesn't count. (Sorry if I'm reiterating, I just wasn't sure if you'd heard that theory yet) If this is the Shard had to abandon Roshar I can imagine it leaving a piece of itself behind in guilt, to help/hurt people. You're right in the fact that it sounds a lot like what we know of the Silence Divine magic system.

I'm pretty sure I heard Chaos mention somewhere, that Ruin's pool, the black lake Alendi saw, is actually somewhere underneath the Pits of Hathsin. Probably difficult to access though, I can't imagine the Lord Ruler would make it easy to find a source of power that rivals his own.

I think that the fact that the southern people are more technologically advanced, could be the reason that Scadrial is going to be at roughly modern time period in 50 years. There technology will advance due to southern knowledge and influence. We have no idea how much more advanced the people of the south are, although it begs the question, why did it take so long for them to go to the north? I'm standing by my belief that the people of the South are going to be the conflict for the Alloy of Law Books. If the second trilogy is modern, surely they will have planes and things like that. I know there isn't much pressure to leave Elendel Basin but there would still be some who wanted to explore. I just think that it is extremely unlikely that a whole group of people could go undiscovered until modern times. After all, eventually there won't be enough room in the Elendel Basin for people to stay there forever.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Windrunner replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So today I was thinking about the different magic systems and how they interact with each other. I read in the Mistborn RPG thread that a Feruchemist who is storing all his identity in his aluminummind can create other metalminds that any other Feurchemist working at 0% identity can use. On Nalthis, only those who invest an object with Breath can retrieve it. So my question is: If a Trueself Ferring (aluminum) was storing all their identity at once, and then invested an object with Breath, would another Trueself Ferring, storing all their identity, be able to retrieve the Breath from that invested object? -
I agree about with Chaos about the men on the other side of the world mainly but, I think they will be a major conflict for the Alloy of Law books. Miles's warnings about "the men of red and gold, bearers of the final metals" and how the people of Elendel will be their slaves is ominous enough, for it seems they will likely have chromium and nicrosil. If this is true then the main character of the next trilogy couldn't be a nicroburst, because they haven't met the folks on the other side of the world yet. Of course maybe they have access to God Metals? My personal thoughts on the southern peoples survival was caves as well, they would just live there full time. If this is true however, those humans could end up looking pretty funky after 1300 hundred years in a cave.

Well like Goradel's Nephew says, Sazed thinks reused spikes make you more human-like. If these spikes were used for three centuries afterward, certainly it would bring the koloss that they created much more humanity, certainly enough to remember where they came from. And also, at least once in the text of HoA, Human says "I am human" so he wasn't that impaired. Vin just kept misinterpreting what he was saying thinking he was telling her his name.
-
The only idea that I had about Cusicesh is that he is possibly an oceanspren, since all oceans are still pretty much the same body of water. I doesn't explain the faces or the looking toward the ocean. Maybe it's the last major chunk of Honor's Shard.
-
I'm not sure that these "new" Hemalurgic koloss are any different then the old ones. Human new that he was human once, and made a couple of chilling comments about killing people and living in their houses so they would become human. If the koloss still have all their old spikes I guess they're probably reusing them, but I imagine the charge has weakened. I wonder if becoming koloss now requires more spikes? Or maybe you just are less twisted by them because they are less powerful now.
-
Well if that quote is being interpreted correctly, how come Sazed and Vin can feel the reserves inside the metalminds even when they aren't being tapped? Brandon said that the metal is actually being given a charge of some sort, which is how compounding works, which suggests that their is some change to the metal at least. I always kind of thought that rather then the energy being moved around in time it was kind of outside of time. Hmm, I woonder what would happen if a Feruchemist brought his metalminds back in time? Would the power still be there?
-
Well your attributes are being Preserved, just to be used at a later time. That's why Ruin is essential, without it there would be no tapping of power, you would just be preserving energy in your metalminds.

Will Kelsier Show up in the second Mistborn Trilogy
Windrunner replied to Aeshdan's topic in Mistborn
As much as I loved Kelsier as a character, if he came back to life I would be extremely disappointed. I want to see him behind the scenes hanging on like for the past 300 years helping Sazed. It's cool how he"s still there, which oddly enough makes the Survivorists right in some small way. I wonder how Kelsier managed to take up the power of Preservation in the beyond? -
I don't know if I'm explaining myself well. I'm saying that Preservation and Ruin have different functions within the power, so they aren't opposing and balancing each other out. If I thought they both did storage or both did tapping, I would agree that they would oppose each other. But they have different functions in my theory. They are doing different things which means they shouldn't really be bound by the same rules. They don't even have to work in the same way as Allomancy and Hemalurgy. Just because Preservation brings an energy gain in Allomancy, doesn't mean it has to in Feruchemy. I think if power gain comes in at all during Feruchemy it would be involved in compounding.
-
I think Goradel's Nephew meant in the future of Scadrial. If I had to make a guess I would say metal detectors at the door?
-
My personal theory is that Hoid is actually more concentrated on the defeat of Odium. He talks about how he may be perpetuating his grudge against Rayse and Bavadin, but that it's important anyway. If you think about it, he was probably on Sel trying to set someone up to take up Aona's shard and Dominion. He was probably on Scadrial to defeat Ruin, who once he destroyed his own world, would probably have no problem making a temporary alliance with Odium to destroy worlds. And as for Nalthis, the only thing I can think of is that Endowment recently came to Nalthis after being chased away from her old world by Odium (as per my other theory) and Hoid was checking up on her to see how she was settling in. I don't know, that last one was kind of weak.
-
This is why I was trying to explain that I think they have separate functions in Feruchemy. Not really interacting, just working on two separate halves of the power. Preservation's function of storing power in my theory is different from Ruin's function of moving power, so I don't think Preservation necessarily had to bring that power gain with him. Anyway I don't quite agree that moving more power through time is what causes the loss. It seems weird to me that weight. or warmth or something could be used to make other power move through time. Does it strike anyone as weird that Sazed didn't seem to suffer from any loss when he dumped his copperminds into his brain in the end of HOA? I also don't think it makes sense for Ruin to be Ruining the power and Preservation compensating for it by creating more. If he was really Preserving and creating the power that was tapped on the spot, why would any power be lost at all?
-
I guess that could work as well. I don't understand why they would call it storing if the power is destroyed but I suppose they could be wrong. I don't understand what you mean though by more points of time. When you tap slowly you're still using power from different points in time, so that doesn't explain why power is lost when more is used. But my theory doesn't say why that is either

ok I found the TenSoon quote
-
TenSoon had the Blessing of Presence which negated the emotional weakness that they gave. Along with the Blessing of Potency, he has the same amount of weakness as most normal kandra. Interestingly enough, this means that kandra with just the Blessing of Presence are immune to Ruin's touch.
