So this is the magic system for my current WIP. It’s similar to Feruchemy in method of access, being a form of tapping, but it’s like Allomancy in that the power isn’t stored but is more of an external power coming through the metal. I even incorporated some elements of hemalurgy by having the power become stronger if the metal is in contact with the user’s blood. While the magic is heavily inspired by Mistborn magic, and the world is inspired by the Era 2 world, the actual magic is pretty different from any of the Mistborn systems. For starters I have nearly double the powers, 15 elements and 15 alloys, and while some of the powers are the same or similar to Allomancy or Feruchemy, many of them are different. For example, I have a similar power set to A-Pewter, though it’s split between iron and steel in my magic system. I also have an ability that enhances general skill, basically making the user into a general prodigy even if they lack experience. One other element of my system is that metal slowly corrodes over time, the rate of corrosion depending on how hard it’s tapped and whether it’s in contact with blood, and exponentially increasing the longer the metal is continuously tapped. Two metals in the system relate to either speeding or slowing this corrosion for other metals. Also, there can, very, very rarely, I’m talking basically Fullborn rare, be a person who can use all of the metals. What do you guys think?

It’s similar to Awakening. You touch the object and give it your instructions, which are spoken by less skilled Casters but can be mental for the more skilled and knowledgeable. Unlike awakening, there is no catalyst like Breaths, though Casting does have a minor effect of the health of a person, which becomes worst the more things they cast at once and the more complex the casting, even going so far as to put them in a coma.

Well it’s basically just an innate element of the people of this world, or at least the ones the story focuses on, that relates to Chromatics. People with red eyes are resistant to extreme temperatures, hot or cold, people with orange are agile and light on their feet, people with yellow have expanded sight spectrum (UV, Infrared) and night vision, people with green are naturally more durable and slightly stronger, people with blue are more emotionally relatable, being easier to talk to and identify with, and people with purple have perfect pitch recognition and a predisposition towards music, with also makes them the best practitioners of the music magic system I’m trying to make.

Post your magic system ideas here for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I’ll go first Again, constructive criticism is welcome. I also have a magical aspect relating to eye color that is related to this, so let me know if you’d like to hear about that.

Great idea. Thanks -
Workshopping a music magic system

So perhaps major and minor equals internal and external, and then particular keys(? I’m not versed in musical terminology) do something like emotions somehow, either dampening or increasing emotions or thoughts maybe? -
Workshopping a music magic system
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to TheSurvivorofDeath's topic in Creator's Corner
While that is an excellent idea, it doesn’t fit with the lore I have established as I’ve built this universe over time. This is going to be one of at least four worlds, only one of which has had a story started on (I’m a slow writer). I’ve just been trying to figure out all my magic systems to make the whole process easier. There is a deity on this world that focuses on innovation and artistry, which is where the artistic focus of this world’s magics comes from (the other one focuses on color). But I don’t know exactly how to make this one work with the established lore. -
Workshopping a music magic system
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to TheSurvivorofDeath's topic in Creator's Corner
Yeah that was kinda the idea. Like the more notes and chords you play or sing the more complex actions you can do. This magic system doesn’t need all that to be meticulously planned since it’s a softer system. I just need like if you sing in this key or something you can do this kind of thing, like categories. -
So I’m working on this music magic system, but I’m not sure how to execute it. I know I want singing in specific keys, maybe, to produce particular effects, but I can’t figure out the effects. I already have a magic system for that world that does basic manipulation of reality kind of thing, light, gravity, etc. So I think this one should work for manipulating human thoughts or emotions or something. Any ideas?

I think Domi is derived from Devotion. Aon Omi means love, doesn’t it? So the name comes from the aons rather than from the name of the shard.

how powerful are shardblades really
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to MrMarksman108's topic in Stormlight Archive
She could change into the shape of a gun, but she wouldn’t be a functional mechanical firearm. Spren can only be one solid piece. There could be ways around it but with current knowledge in-world it doesn’t work. I think it’s mentioned somewhere that some Radiants had their spren take the form of bows, but they had to carry the string since the spren could only be one piece. -
Enough investiture in one place will become sentient given enough time, so yes.

Sazed took the actual power of the shard, rather than trying to combine portions of their power and opposing intents. He was connected enough to the intents of both Shards to take both powers. He embodied both intents and effectively made them one intent.

Could an Inquisitor Be Controlled Like a Kandra or Koloss?
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Longshot97's question in Cosmere Q&A
Any sentient creature pierced with a hemalurgic spike can be controlled, if they have enough spikes. For humans, I believe the limit is five before control is possible, and inquisitors have far more than that. -

He is the storm. The storm cannot be killed. -
104 ways to kill a full-born
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Lesser spren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wait wait wait. The OP says an entity naturally born with the powers of feruchemy and Allomancy. These interfere, so a Fullborn can’t be naturally born. Mistborn-ferring, Feruchemist-misting, sure. Fullborn, effectively impossible. So this whole discussion is pointless. Hypothetically speaking, however, the best option is to avoid them at all costs. Next best thing is excessive amounts of aluminum and unrestricted Cohesion (for nuking). -
Awakening an Allowmancer/Feruchemist
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Newly Awakened's question in Cosmere Q&A
I reckon the ability is lost when the person dies, since it’s a spiritual quality. Maybe though. I’m not well versed in Awakening.- 7 replies

Metal Mind and Invested Metal Melting Temperatures
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Dwmaster204's question in Cosmere Q&A
Metalminds can melt, and that would usually cause the Feruchemist to be unable to tap them since they’re just liquid metal, which has a tendency to not stay where it was. I’m not sure if the investiture level has an impact on melting point, at least with basic metals. God metals are a different story. -
100m: Not sure. Kaladin or Fleet, maybe lift has some speed. Tricky. 400m: Kaladin or Fleet again, tough decision. Mile: Still a tricky tossup between Kal and Fleet. Everything else for running: Fleet. If he inspired a legend, even if a bit exaggerated, about outpacing a high storm across a continent, that man has insane long distance. Javelin throw: Lopen. He has practice with one-armed muscle movement, and knows how to handle a spear. Hammer throw: Rock. Man drew a shardbow. Without Plate. He’s insanely strong. Only lost javelins because he doesn’t know how to properly handle a spear. Shot putt: Also Rock. Same reason. Hurdles: Kaladin. Long legs. Not sure on the rest, and even these are up for debate

Kandra and steel/ iron allomancy.
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well skilled allomancers can shift the point anyway, at least slightly. So I don’t see why such a fluid being as a Kandra couldn’t. -
A non-Radiant shardbearer cannot change the shape of their blade. A radiant could do this.

I like it. It seems like the main theme of the Edgedancers is to represent the unknowns, the dejected members of society. So it’s logical for that to escalate to speaking for the silenced. Hopefully we’ll find out in coming books.

I find it far more likely that the Unmade were more powerful spren on Roshar that Odium corrupted during the early times of his arrival on Roshar. They were made by the larger quantities of investiture on Roshar and Unmade by the corruption of Odium.
