  1. That’s a good idea. That’s a good way to mesh the two ideas. Would Solfire be used up permanently when used or would it replenish quickly? Would there be a specific method to drawing the constellation runes or would it just be simple drawing? Can anyone use the system with the right knowledge or is it a confined group of users?
  2. First of all, there is no reason you can’t use both magic systems. Runecarving seems pretty strong and you can incorporate constellation shapes into the runes to mesh the themes, if that’s the path you choose. As for psychic powers relating to light, fire, sky, and star, that’s a bit tricky. Psychic abilities are naturally broad so you have to narrow down what you want to happen. You could do a sort of psychic burning or fire effect, like a telepathic mind wipe or physical injury that feels like burning. For sky you could do some kind of atmosphere-kenesis type thing, since you said this world has a heavy atmosphere which I’m assuming is toxic, so manipulating it could be useful. For star you could do some kind of…. I don’t know I’m honestly at a loss on that. Maybe astral projection or something. And light could just be illusions or flashes of energy and stuff. Just suggestions. You could make it a sort of one power deal or an all inclusive package. If you make it a one and done, you could have it dependent on the constellations present at birth. Just some ideas. I’m happy to help.
  3. The easiest way to make a magic system, especially if you’re new to it, is to keep it simple. Take inspiration from other sources and make it your own. I think something astronomically based is great, though if your world is one with a heavy gaseous atmosphere some manipulation of that might be in order. If you want a hard magic system, both those sources aren’t the greatest. By their very nature the sky and the stars are not to be bound by mortal rules, so you won’t get a really good truly hard magic system from those. You could implement psychic magic, based around the stars, by doing something like hearing the stars in the skyward series, except with actual stars and not ftl communications. Then again, a sort of star alignment magic system is definitely good. The questions that you need to answer, and that I need to know the answers to to properly help you, are the religious focuses of your world, the existing god(s) if there are any, the general (but somewhat specific) powers you want (things you can imagine happening with your characters and your world to make interesting scenes), and any other themes you want to take shape in your story. That last one isn’t so important, but it can be useful to building the magic. Magic doesn’t have to be based on the theme, but having it similar can make it fit the story better. I’m interested in this system, so I’m prepared to help you anywhere you need it.
  4. So the first question is what kind of powers you’re trying to implement. Is it going to be enhancements based on the constellations present, kind of like zodiac constellations, or is it going to be like an understanding of the stars and their positions as a sort of language, used to manipulate the world around them, or something different? What do you have in mind here?
  5. Coins are ancient relics from a civilization long extinct. They can be made, but the forges are cold and many are lost, and it requires a living creature to create (as in the entire blood volume of a living animal, the size of which is dependent on the coin you’re trying to make). A normal coin does not work, though existing coins can be repaired if damaged with new metals (of the same kind) with only a small addition of blood. Here’s the moon magic I’m debating if I’ll have there be two moons, one of which just happens to follow an orbit that keeps it almost constantly as a new moon and only occasionally enters a state to grant powers, usually enhancing an existing power. I think that could be interesting but I’m undecided. I haven’t made this world yet so it’s in the air still. What do you think?
  6. The coin does have to be under the tongue during use. It can be removed before the time limit, and usually is. The limit is just there to prevent people from permanently being able to do things at the slight expense of a coin under the tongue. There is a cool down that is roughly equal to the use time limit, but usually a little bit longer. If someone has multiple of the same kind of coin, they can just switch them out, no cooldown. The cooldown is for individual coins. Having multiple of the same coin is pretty rare though, especially for the really rare kinds like iridium. Even the common types aren’t that common, but some people have several iron coins and stuff. I’m a little busy right now so I’ll post the moon one later.
  7. That’s very interesting. Will people altering their own limits be a plot point in your story? Here’s the coin magic system (It doesn’t have a name) My handwriting isn’t great so ask for clarification if you can’t read, and feel free to ask questions (on any of the magics I’ve posted so far). Which system should I share next?
  8. I totally agree with that. Does Luminescence have any functions beyond changing limits? And can you change the limits of yourself? Also which magic system should I post next? Fire, metal, spirits, coins, or moon-based?
  9. So, uh, it’s been a little while since I’ve posted. But I have decided to return, if people are still interested. So here’s chapter 12.
  10. That’s pretty cool. I’d be interested to hear what else you have. Here’s another one of mine.
  11. I was thinking intense heat might make them kinda melt like wax, and enough heat could make them sort of liquify, though they don’t really have an original form exactly.
  12. I hadn’t thought about that. I suppose it would since they revert to juvenile Here’s another one What do you think? (I swear I’m almost out of these)
  13. Yeah. I have four worlds so far, though I’m going to make some more, and they’re all different. Nexum is fairly similar to Earth, though it’s got more land than we do. Asema has a supercontinent, deep oceans, high mountains in the northeast and southwest (at least I think that’s where I have them), and big forests towards the middle of the continent. Plus some crystal stuff going on that’s a major feature of the landscape. Laetus is earth like too, but I think I’m going to put several inland seas as the main geographical features, plus a decent mountain range and big forests, but I don’t have much on that world yet. And Becrux is a world of stone and sand and fire, full of deserts and volcanoes and the occasional dry forest with trees that can kill you. It’s a very deadly world. I have one of those, but I could make more for more worlds. Nexum has some unique fauna but they don’t have fantasy features really, they’re just a little different. This isn’t quite a common thing with fantasy elements but it’s the closest I’ve got. I’ll make some more soon.
  14. That’s what it’s for. You got any ideas for something I should make? Like a broad idea I can work with? Here’s another one I’ve got(I’ve only got a few more don’t worry) What do you think (of any of these)?
  15. That’s very interesting. I’d be interested to hear more about the mechanics of that magic system. In the meantime, here’s yet another one of my creatures
  16. That first one is pretty interesting. What other traits do the creatures have? Are they generally immortal? Are they rare or common? Do they grant abilities or anything? And the hemalurgic vampire is cool. I think it might be better suited to use like claws of different metals rather than just nicrosil fangs, because I’m not sure you can pick an attribute to steal as easily and it’s easier to pinpoint the bind points with fingers. Not that I’m that well versed in hemalurgy.
  17. That’s interesting. Are there more types? Heres another one of mine.
  18. So I’m interested to see what fantasy creatures you guys have come up with (or can come up with, if you want to give it a try). I have a good number, but I’m only going to share two to start.
  19. Not the best pick. That’s one of my worst systems, but it shall be done. Berserkers This is a magic that comes from pain. The process must be performed in a specific temple, and it involves extreme pain. Scars are burned into the flesh of the prospective berserker using hot irons, typically traced along the extremities and to the chest, where a brand, specifically prepared for each individual, is placed. Once the burns are complete, the person will be warped significantly. All individuals become impervious to flames and resistant to pain, and usually grow in stature, becoming muscular and taller. Beyond these features, berserkers have variability. Some are smart and some are dumb, some are fast and some are slow, some retain skills from before the change while others do not. But it all stems from pain and fire. Like I said this isn’t my most thought out system, but when I take the time to develop it more it should do well in one of the stories I have planned, if I can keep it in.
  20. Well if the gem is cracked just by impact it’s still usable unless fully shattered, and even then the pieces would still have some power to them. It’s just when the gem is used that it breaks in such a way to make it unusable. The actual cracking is just a side effect of the mechanic that makes the gem useless. But any gem of the same kind can be used, if one breaks. I have a fire magic system, a color magic system, a music magic system, a metal magic system, a spiritual magic system, a scar/burn based magic system, a gift magic system, a moon magic system, a coin magic system.
  21. So this is a magic system I have where the user gains powers from a gemstone if they’re touching it. The gemstone they can use is dependent on genetics, which also determine just how much power they can get from a given gemstone. Each person can use only one gemstone. Gems wear out as they are used, eventually cracking and becoming unusable.
  22. What magic system should I do next?
  23. The soul being affected is dependent on who is doing the carving and the order of carving, as well as the blade used for carving. It is actually predominantly dependent on the blade used. Kings have used assassins to gain souls for themselves just by having the assassin carry the same blade used to carve a digit of bearing. One digit of bearing can only take one soul, so it’s all up to who the associated sigil of taking is carved on. It must be carved sigil of bearing, then sigil of taking, in that order, or it won’t work. Powers like enhanced speed, strength, thought, healing, and things like that can be achieved, and souls can be used to fuel effects like producing flames or bursts of energy or breaking down walls and things like that. If someone has enough souls they can become virtually invulnerable to harm.
